  1. For the record, I expected a lot from schilling tonight. I think this could be the first time I've been truly dissappointed with him since game 1.
  2. Its not a rob if its hit right at him. That play by Youk was fairly routine.
  3. nope, im a jeter fan, and he definetly made that look more difficult than he was. hes always a little hungry for the grass stains. im not saying im not a fan. i like jeter, but that play could have been made without the monica lewinsky knee diving move.
  4. Well, his AAA ERA doesn't exactly matter right now as he's had what two outings?
  5. How is he pitching?
  6. Well, if he is good, I would say 4 or 5. I definetly think if he is good enough to be signed at 17, if he is that far away from being major league ready, why sign him? He might not pan out, but they definetly won't just sit him around for six years.
  7. He's not been lights out the way he used to be. He is a good pitcher, but hardline the front line pitcher you would give up a Lester or a Hansen for.
  8. I personally just don't see Zito being in the cards in this situation. Considering what Beane is going to ask for. Giving up Hansen is definetly way out of the question. Lester I believe won't go anywhere. If a Buehlre or someone of that caliber were to hit the market, maybe Lester would be dealable. I think probably not though. I think the Red Sox will be huge players for Mulder this offseason. I think that is the only out of the organization pitching moves they will be making in the near future.
  9. First off, Beckett wasn't exactly a proven winner in the NL. He is a guy who has flat out dominant stuff. He can shut down a lineup and throw zero's frame after frame. He's done this already in the AL. When he comes with it watch out. Second, RJ is 45 Beckett is 25. There is a distinct difference. The doubt with RJ is whether or not he still has it in the tank. On SC someone pointed out he has been throwing out of a lower arm slot that usual. That is oh so bad. I personally think he will get back on top of the ball and return to form, but eh. Lastly, Clement and Beckett are two totally different animals here. Beckett will not be a career 4 ERA guy in the AL. I am sure of that. edit, before you jump on me for calling RJ 45, I did that because a 5 on the end nicely illustrated the age difference and made me happy.
  10. Trading for a Zito and giving up a Hansen or a Lester makes no sense. The FO is building for the future and I don't see them making a move to get Zito as some sort of attempt to get the inside track on signing him in order to thwart the Yankees. The Sox cleared some payroll this offseason, and speculation has pointed towards all the pitchers on the market next off season. I'll bet they chase down a Mulder or Zito next offseason. And btw, Beckett isn't going to a continue to be a 4+ era guy. Thanks for throwing that in there though. The book on him is he always gives a string of excellent starts, followed by a few bad ones. Its what he does. He loses command of his fastball for a little while and then gets it back and loses it etc. etc.
  11. Why? Explain to me the logic behind acquiring Zito? Giving up a guy who will be a quality left handed starter as soon as a year from now, for a half of a year of Barry Zito? Barry Zito hasn't been a good pitcher in awhile. I personally am not willing to give up a Hansen or a Lester for Zito. Not worth it. I would put your money on the Sox being high bidders for Mark Mulders services next offseason.
  12. hahaha single double
  13. Papelbon made 3 starts, all of them good. Shut out the angels for 6 I believe. The other two were quality 5 inning stints. [/nitpick.]
  14. Pepper? Because he has gray hair?
  15. If DiNardo can pitch like he did today it might not be needed. I would like to see Hansen worked as a starter in AAA to get to use all his pitches.
  16. Uhhh... did the radar gun just say 105 for a tavarez sinker?
  17. Or you could be a medium beast like me and have one. Either way.
  18. In the bigs last year? He was coming off of/still in a dead arm peroid. Had no slider. Anyone can hit a 98 mph fastball if its all he's got and it was all he had. Remember ST? No earned runs? Hes a beast. Ok, stop. Hansen already has good location. I mean, I dont know if my word isn't good enough, but dig around. I own a good few books on prospects, but prospectus and BA and others and none of them have anything bad to say about Hansens control. His biggest knock is that he cannot change speeds. As a closer, it doesn't really matter. Most scouting reports are nothing short of glowing. period, right.... you are the be all end all authority on everything.
  19. He isn't working on a sinker. He's had a very good sinker for a while. This guy is scary, he can get ground ball outs and strike outs all day. He has the skill set to be a starter and he is leaps and bounds ahead of Lester and most of our prospect developmentally so I'm not so surprised by this. Very good move.
  20. Why are you making all these assumptions? You've not been impressing me lately. That entire post was devoid of substance and just a bunch of bias BS. I'm getting kind of let down by the majority of your posts lately. He has big league type stuff. No reason to assume teams will knock him out early just because you think he is a first-time through pitcher. Assumtion based bias crap right there. His stamina isn't limited, he has a resilient arm and hes a beast. Why all the doubt of his control too? Good command of a heater and slider has been his M.O. and the change-up is a recent development. The change of speeds was the only thing Hansen was lacking in making the jump to the rotation. He has the feel of the change and is still refining it, but when he learns how to pitch I don't see anything keeping him out of the rotation. I've been reading up on our farm and I'm really psyched with some of the stuff I see down there. Clearly you are less than impressed but its not like you've been much of a stand up kind of guy lately. Nothing about the Red Sox impresses you and its getting kind of boring how you slam the sox about everything and never tip your cap.
  21. Erm, I don't know where you got that, but I bought a handy dandy scouting guide last week that actually says Hansens sinking fastball is one of the heaviest sinkers in the minors. And just about every 98 mph fastball is gonna be a heavy pitch. Hansen is very good, great location and great stuff, just needs to learn to pitch. There is no bad news with this what-so-ever in my opinion. A pitcher is a pitcher and he can best help out the team right now by starting and all last year all we heard is how he has the frame to be a starter, the stamina to be a starter, and the stuff. Why, now that he will be a starter, are there skeptics? edit - might be a starter.
  22. You would consider giving albert puljols 20 million for half a season? So basically 40 million a year?
  23. When its not windy, a knuckle ball does better in the warm weather. If its windy though, it doesn't matter what temperature its at, its gonna be filthy. I've had some good times throwing knuckle balls in the wind. When its blowing toward you on the mound, its so much fun to throw.
  24. This is great. I like this idea. This, to me, is the only way I don't keep him in the minors. I think this is worth it. I still think he needs to stay down until july-ish, but this is a worthy cause.
