Hanley has been ridiculous but I think the Sox have a better record with Beckett than they would with Hanley right now. The pitching in the NL is generally worse as well so I'd be curious to see how Hanley would do in the AL. Could have a bit of a Renteria/Drew effect

I think the way you gotta look at it is that Beckett is a top-tier pitcher and Ramirez is a top-tier shortstop but obviously, the more valuable position is pitcher

Steinbrenner has always been one of those guys you love to hate, but strictly in terms of the rivalry. It's heartbreaking to hear about the condition he's in these days. He's been one of the great owners in baseball history and for all the criticism he's gotten, you can't deny he has been 100% committed to doing whatever it takes to make his team a winner and a lot of sports fans can only dream about having an owner who's that committed to their team. There's no doubt the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry wouldn't be the same without Steinbrenner and I wish him all the best. He will be missed by Yankees and Sox fans alike when he's gone.

I agree completely. Most of the free agents that were tough to see go had good years immediately after leaving the Sox but it's not as if Pedro or Johnny we're gonna accept 1 year deals. Now both signings look like s***. Theo has been great at making the tough calls on letting certain guys go.
