  1. The blurb I posted says Beckett was scheduled for Saturday. Byrd is pitching Friday and god knows who's gonna pitch Saturday.
  2. Tito has a massive boner for Delcarmen, its not even funny
  3. even funnier was this link found in the article: "SHERMAN: VICTOR ZAMBRANO AN OPTION"
  4. right, but can Ross catch a knuckleball?
  5. I really hope the problem is as minor as they're saying it is. What sucks is, I'm driving to Toronto Friday to see Saturday's game and was really hoping Beckett was gonna pitch
  6. Lineups: Red Sox 1. Jacoby Ellsbury, RF 2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 3. David Ortiz, DH 4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B 5. Jason Bay, LF 6. Sean Casey, 1B 7. Jason Varitek, C 8. Alex Cora, SS 9. Coco Crisp, CF -- Daisuke Matsuzaka, SP Orioles 1. Dave Roberts, 2B 2. Nick Markakis, RF 3. Melvin Mora, 3B 4. Aubrey Huff, DH 5. Ramon Hernadez, C 6. Luke Scott, LF 7. Kevin Millar, 1B 8. Jay Payton, CF 9. Juan Castro, SS -- Daniel Cabrera, SP
  7. according to the Globe, Yaz will be undergoing heart bypass surgery
  8. Sabathia/Sheets are interesting options though cause all the positional players are pretty much set as is for '09 (with the possible exception of catcher) so then you take the Manny/Schilling (and maybe Lugo) money to make a serious run at one of the two Brewers imagine an '09 rotation of: Beckett Sabathia/Sheets Lester Dice-K Buchholz/Wakefield
  9. if Kennedy has similar stuff to a Mussina, Glavine or Maddux, then he'd better damn well get some command otherwise he'll ride the bus his entire career
  10. if he comes up Sept. 1st though, Ross provides a decent pinch-hitting option for Varitek
  11. Millar: I don't mind him but I'd try and re-sign Casey although I think he'd wanna go somewhere where he'd get more ABs. Loretta: I don't see how we'll get rid of Lugo meaning he'll be the utility in-fielder next year leaving no room for Loretta. Guerrero: LA has a team option on him which I think they'll be happy to excercise. Dempster: See Vlady. Lowe: FO won't want anything to do with him and someone will overpay for him. Sabathia/Sheets: Obviously any Sox fan would want these guys but keep in mind Beckett is in line for a massive raise after next year.
  12. unless he can catch a knuckleball (or Wakefield's injury is worse than anticipated), this would force the Sox to keep 3 catchers on the roster unless he's signed to a minor-league deal, is sent to 'Tucket and gets called up Sept. 1st
  13. I never saw him play as he retired the year I was born but every Red Sox fan knows, or should know, the mark he left on the Red Sox and baseball in general. I hope this isn't too serious and that he recovers quickly
  14. I do think it's a bit of bad luck as well, maybe the fact that he threw almost 231 innings last year had something to do with it too
  15. we usually own Cabrera, id hope that continues tonight
  16. interesting stat I found of Lester courtesy of Rob Bradford in 4 starts in games after the Sox have been swept in a series, Lester is 3-0 with an 0.29 ERA. That's 1 ER in 31.1 IP
  17. that is true, but last year there was warranted skepticism about the condition of Schilling's arm causing a legitimate belief that they might not see the post-season Schilling of old. Coupled with his already stellar post-season resume, Beckett was the easy choice there. This year, Lester has clearly been better than Beckett but it's not as if Beckett hasn't shown signs of dominance at all this year, he's just been inconsistent. Lester is still largely unproven, despite his performance in game 4 of last year's WS
  18. how is this a debate? Beckett is the best post-season pitcher currently in the game Post-season career stats: 6-2 with 3 complete games in 9 starts and a 1.72 ERA. He has never lost a post-season series and has anchored his two World Series-winning teams. that's a lot more than just lore no matter how he's pitched this year
  19. I dont see how we're a shoo-in when whoever doesnt win the central could easily take the wild card Gom is just proving that Yankee fans now are how Red Sox fans were pre-2004, it really is quite an interesting phenomenon when you look at it
  20. I dont know where the hell he came from, but Melvin Mora has 91 RBIs
  21. Halladay isnt an especially hard thrower
  22. I expect a rather low scoring affair tonight
  23. the rainout allowed the Sox to skip Buchholz's start
  24. Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays Josh Beckett (11-8, 3.92) vs. Shaun Marcum (7-5, 3.42) Note the start time of 1:35pm
  25. I agree 100% that Byrd is the better option right now for the stretch run and the playoffs but to call Buchholz a choker when he's a 24 year old kid in his rookie season is a bit much
