  1. you dont get anyone desirable without giving up Buchholz, Ellsbury, Masterson, Anderson or Bowden
  2. I dont deny that Tex improves whatever lineup he's in but don't point out Texas' ML rank in runs scored with him in the lineup as an argument, its just dumb and enough with the goddamn fail and epic fail on this board. You might as well call someone the weakest link and tell them goodbye, same freshness
  3. Beckett Lester Dice-K Lowe Penny Wakefield as the long reliever. Masterson as a setup guy. Buchholz and Bowden in 'Tucket
  4. Are you fine with a holdover provided they GET Mauer or simply a holdover and a serious offer to Mauer? Cause outside of a trade in 2010 and a signed extension wherever he goes before the season ends, make no mistake that he'll be a Yankee
  5. the Mets have offered Derek Lowe 3 years, $36 million does this not seem like a fight the Red Sox should join?
  6. enough with the Gom-ish comments, there are enough places where most people are conceding the Yankees to be the division favorites
  7. And in 2008, without Tex, they were 1st....
  8. f*** the FO its a shame we're such a small-market team and cant afford Ben Sheets
  9. when you're a small market team like the Red Sox, youve gotta pin your hopes on pitchers recovering from serious injuries trying to reclaim past glory to round out your rotation...
  10. if Lugo goes to Detroit, what do you do about a utility infielder? Gil Velazquez....no thanks....Alex Cora.....not so much
  11. But knowing how hard he plays the game, would you offer him a 6-7 year deal at around $18 mil a season?
  12. meh, .308 OBP last year in Colorado of all places. Considering the money he probably got, they can do better for a 4th outfielder
  13. Keep in mind a lot of those prospects they'd be blowing other teams out of the water to sign would be used as trade chips as well to support the prospects they choose to keep with proven veterans, many of whom they can potentially extend before their contracts expire rather than let them to go to the FA market. So basically, the damage the team who suffer through growing pains would be limited. It's definitely a more sensible way of running your team.
  14. I know ownership is making money hand over fist but the fact that they don't re-invest it in team payroll isnt necessarily what pisses me off cause quite frankly, the team's free agent track record is far from great but its the poverty cries that John Henry does everytime the Yankees blow up the FA market. If Henry came out with a statement like "the Yankees feel the way to improve their team is to invest heavily in the free agent market, our strategy is to invest in our player development system and improve our team with homegrown talent and it's a strategy that has worked for us" But instead he tries to get the sympathy of the public with the poverty cries and the "we can't keep up with their revenue streams" comments and when so much of your revenue and spending is public knowledge, it makes him look like a bitch and, quite honestly, cheap. He embarasses the Red Sox name and his organization
  15. I dont think its so much of a money issue to the Sox as it is the amount of years Youkilis probably wants. The way he plays the game, Youkilis is the poster boy for a player who will potentially start breaking down in 4-5 years and I'm sure he and his agent are seeking something in the 6-7 year range at a salary in the neighborhood of players who produced like he did in 2008. The fact that Lars Anderson is also waiting in the wings and should be MLB-ready right at the time Youk hits FA doesn't help Youk's cause either. And the Sox seem to feel a market correction is gonna happen in the coming years which seems to be the reason they gave Tex such a modest offer so they aren't gonna go out and sign Youk to a $20+ million deal in this market
  16. I think Sanchez has been the subject of trade rumors so who knows
  17. there's always SOMETHING preventing this team from pulling the trigger on a free agent these days which makes it even more of a head scratcher to me that they overpaid for Drew and Lugo. If it isnt $1.5 mil annually on a $180 million contract, its an NTC or the amount of years or the loss of a draft pick
  18. If they built a new stadium, they wouldnt necessarily have to tear down Fenway. Why not make the building part a Red Sox museum and the field a public park for example?
  19. Giants signed Randy Johnson today for 1 year, $8 mil. He can make another $5 mil in bonuses
