  1. I really don't think the Sox would ever consider parting with a pitching prospect over Penny and Smoltz, the moves just allow the prospects to bake in the oven longer. Olney is purely speculating.
  2. any team that needs to adds pieces to their puzzle through the free agent pitching market without wanting to give AJ Burnett $83 million pretty much needs to do these 1-year, incentive-laden contracts. Some team will overpay for Sheets who isnt much more durable than Smoltz or Penny and some team will pay out the ass in prospects for Peavy
  3. lets be honest about the money. where the f*** else are they gonna spend it at this point?
  4. if there's a need for a spot-start in the middle of the summer, would you rather have Smoltz or Charlie Zink?
  5. who knows, he could surprise
  6. if true, this is the first real off-season move I can get behind good job, FO
  7. I gotta find my Racine Belles jersey
  8. I dont know, maybe they played it in A League of Their Own Come to think of it, maybe Geena Davis can catch for the Sox
  9. You're right, I see absolutely no reason why teams keep giving him chances, even after he was jettisoned to Japan
  10. if what you're asking is why didn't they any of the several better alternatives to Johnson, then I really don't know, I'd ask that as well if I didn't root for the Yankees to fail so badly
  11. I don't mind Jeff Bailey as the backup 1B as long as they spend some f***ing money somewhere else
  12. And they got Joe Nathan, along with Liriano and Bonser by trading Pierzynski so they'd pulled off some good trades as well to stay relevant
  13. Which is why I'm baffled as to why they signed Johnson. I don't want to hear about pitching depth cause if you have to throw out Johnson for a start, it's cause you don't have any depth.
  14. I see the Yanks top 4 being Sabathia-Wang-Burnett-Joba therefore making Pettitte the 5th and there aren't many teams that pay or are willing to pay $10 million for their 5th starter The fact that they signed Johnson the day Pettitte announced he was rejecting their offer tells me the Yanks are very worried about the 5th guy
  15. All that tells me is that he really didn't want to go to Washington. Either way, I'm passed it. We have an above-average lineup as is with a good rotation and a good bullpen. We'll be fine.
  16. Cause clearly they don't like their options in-house. Hell, they were willing to pay $10 million for a 5th starter until he rejected the offer.
  17. I dunno, the Twins seem like they've been a pretty successful franchise for many years now
  18. Jeff Bailey is the best in-house option to backup 1B if you ask me. You don't necessarily need your 1B backup to have the ability to play the outfield
  19. If you throw enough s*** against the wall, some of it is bound to stick. Jason Johnson is just another turd.
  20. ill give you Aaron Small but Dan Giese was basically a rookie last year
  21. Strange, I had it in my head that he actually pitched well for the Dodgers last year only be to shown otherwise when I looked up his stats
  22. For the free agent pitching market, I agree. When you have to shell out $83 million just to get Burnett, it just isn't worth it.
  23. Smaller bodies tend to break down significantly as the long, grueling hockey season wears on them. Having Saku Koivu as our top center for far too long, I see it first hand every year.
  24. You know, once you get past the jokes about Pavano, it's not a bad deal at all for the Guardians
