  1. The Yanks offense was crap.
  2. oh cmon, you dont think Petttitte would still be able to take a lead into the 8th with the offense the Yanks have? The biggest reason the Sox won in 2007 was Okajima and Papelbon shutting it down in the 8th and 9th, you can never underestimate the back-end of a bullpen
  3. You're not a fan of 7 inning games?
  4. Yup, now I look forward to seeing the pics of the workers at Fenway loading up the truck going to Ft Myers
  5. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x310/The_Ultimate_Wrestling_Gallery/Scott%20Hall/RazorRamon016.jpg
  6. He ran a very successful baseball team while keeping payroll to a minimum, he shouldn't be faulted for being a hell of a businessman
  7. aside from maybe adding Varitek to a one-year deal with an option for a second, I think the Sox just might be done
  8. I'm just gonna go ahead and add an asterisk to denote contract years..... 2005- 32 starts- 209IP* 2006- 21 starts- 135IP 2007- 25 starts- 169IP 2008- 34 starts- 221IP* ok, done
  9. Publicly, Epstein seems content at the idea of filling the catcher spot in house and I'm sure he would be more than happy to take the draft picks for Varitek. The FO did a good job of taking all the leverage away from Boras in this case.
  10. its not a bad signing, our backup 1B can also play the outfield in case two known health risks, Drew and Baldelli, go down.
  11. Penny and Smoltz living up to their deals isnt impossible either
  12. Good to see someone hassled the Hoff
  13. not that part, the fact that the Yankees are counting on Burnett to live up to his contract is just as much of a gamble as the Sox signing Penny and Smoltz. but granted if Burnett is a huge flop, the Yanks will just turn on the money printing machine, sign someone else and bury Burnett at the back of the rotation or bullpen for the duration of the deal
  14. k, just checking
  15. Very good point actually The fact that the young pitchers and prospects will have a guy like Smoltz around at ST really doesnt hurt either
  16. so we're waving the white flag on 2009 cause we signed John Smoltz and Rocco Baldelli?
  17. Having 50 mil coming off the books (or whatever it is) still doesnt mean the freed up money should be spent on the top names in the FA pitching market cause the dollars are just stupid
  18. If the Sox weren't 100% convinced as to what Rocco's condition was before signing him, then its their own damn fault if he's DLed for the entire season. That being said, I'm sure the Sox took the necessary steps to completely re-assure themselves that they're getting a healthy ballplayer.
  19. My ideal situation is that Penny and Smoltz are both making their starts every five days by mid-season and that Wakefield is the long reliever
  20. I'm sure the Sox medical staff examined him and re-assured the FO that he'd be able to contribute, I see no other reason why they'd guarantee him $5.5 million.
  21. How many of the free agents signed this season actually signed contracts short enough to be "short-term needs"? Jason Giambi? Pat Burrell? I don't see any FA out there that signed a short-term deal that would be a fit for the Sox.
  22. and Lugo knows how to play the OF too
