  1. Barry Bonds had more natural talent than most players would ever dream to have, and he felt the need to cheat. Good players, bad players (manny alexander comes to mind a few years back), it doesnt matter. Big league baseball players cheat plain and simple. I have to admit, i would be extremely pissed if someone on our team is caught cheating, but Remys interview on EEI mande me nervous.
  2. Who do you speculate may or may not be on the juice? It always seems like it is the unlikely people, but Remy did say that rumor is that BIG names are announced and have already tested positive.
  3. We arent sure if Japanese power or Triple A power translates into MLB power, but he does sting the ball. At this point I guess he has good Gap power. His Japanese numbers compare considerably to Hideki Matsui so I guess it is a wait and see. His glove looks a little shaky, maybe he is just a little nervous. He appears to have a very good swing, last night going the other way with a tough outside pitch for two RBI. He also appears pretty patient and takes what pitchers give him. Id like for him to get a long look but you know that Olerud will be back at some point and Francona absolutely LOVES Millar for some reason. He must put up some really good numbers so it makes it hard for them to send him packing for AAA.
  4. Varitek Fat? You may want to get your glasses checked. Varitek is pretty lean. I am actually shocked you would put him in the same category as wells. :dunno:
  5. Just heard on WEEI that according to Jerry Remy (9:30 am ET) there will be other BIG names revealed who have tested positive for steroids. Im guessing that Remy may have mentioned this in his Remy Report. Is anyone else concerned that maybe a few of our beloved RedSox players may have been on the juice? Do the other Big names maybe involve Jason Giambi? (Who has been on a tear) Looking at current Sox players I would say that none of them appear to be on steroids. Johny Damon is a pretty cut guy but reports indicate that he has been tested three times this season, so I guess he is safe. Other than that I guess you could speculate Kevin Millar may have been on them at one point a few years back. Millar has gotten bigger, more out of shape, and his production has dropped off the face of the planet since the new steroid policy was introduced. Here are his stats breakdown: 2003 25 HR 96 RBI .820 OPS 2004 18 HR 74 RBI .857 OPS 2005 4 HR 40 RBI .736 OPS Not to mention his physique changed from a Baseball player to a Beer League softball player. What do you think? Who do you think may be on them, who do you think these Big Names are? Concerned about anyone from the SOX appearing on the list? Discuss.
  6. Aaron Hill does deserve credit because at least he seems to want to compete. Like you said schillingisnatural, many of the yankees pitchers seem to not give a crap. He deserves the credit however, we know that all good things come to an end, and with no track record and a career spent in the minor leagues its certain he will pitch like a minor leaguer.
  7. Regardless of the fact the Yankees team ERA is lower than the sox, the sox staff is MUCH better than the yankees. Fact is, the Sox have been winning without one of the best big game pitchers in baseball. The yankees right now are signing anyone available including SOX REJECTS like Nomo, and Embree. Once again the yankees Pen will crumble like last year because Gordon and Rivera are being used much too often. If you want to talk about starting pitchers its not even close. Pavano is a bust, Wright is a bust, Johnson is a bust, Mussina is his solid self, brown is and has been a bust not to mention washed up, aaron small is a career minor leaguer, Nomo is over the hill and has the highest ERA over a 2 year span, Chacon is a decent pickup and Al Leiter is another washed up big leaguer. In contrast the Sox have Clement, who has struggled in his last few starts, but I take a struggling clement over anyone not named Mike Mussina, (he was an allstar, the unit was not). I take Wells over anyone not named Mussina OR Johnson. I take Arroyo over everyone not named Mussina and Johnson, same for Wakefield, hell even Wade Millers 4 ER in 5 IP performances are better then what the yankees are getting from their number 3, 4 and 5 starters. Fact is while the Yankees are waiting for crappy pitchers to get designated for assignment and sign other teams trash, the sox have a pretty solid starting staff and Schilling is getting stronger and stronger in the pen. The Sox pitching has been comparable to the Yankees, and the sox dont even have their best SP. And dont try to make the argument that Pavano and Wright are hurt because everyone knew Wright was gunna suck and everyone knew Pavano had the chance of being a bust.
  8. Why do the A's suck? PAYROLL, thats why. And actually, they haven't "sucked" in years using a similar approach. They are just handcuffed and have lost key players over the years. Considering losing Giambi, Tejada, Foulke, Hudson, and Mulder who are all allstars, all compete or have competed for the CY young or MVP i think they are doing just fine.
  9. The Redsox dont run the bases well because baserunning is not one of their main offensive objectives as much as I disagree with their approach at times. Baserunning has never been a priority for the redsox. There is a reason why damon doesnt run much no more. Same can be said of renterria. They dont believe in running into outs and believe that walks and slugging is a more efficient way of scoring runs. As far as smart baserunning, or lack of.....coaches SHOULD be blamed. Remember a few years back when Sveum claimed that Baldelli didnt have a very strong arm after the sox were nailed like 3 times in a series against the Drays? Then he doesnt send Millar on a basehit to Bernie in CF....I can only think of maybe one outfielder in all of baseball who has a weaker arm, which is Rondell White. I venture to say Damon has a better arm. I think maybe Sveum doesnt do his homework, because its inexcusable for him to not send Millar. Williams wasnt even trying to throw him out at home, and MIllar was held. Sveum shoulda been fired last year, and we are still paying for his mistkaes, he is now gunshy and alot of times hold runners up, or seems to be in between decisions instead of making a decision and sticking with it.
  10. They don't have to release somebody to remove somebody from the 40 man roster. They can remove somebody from the 40 man roster by designating him for assignment. They can send Halama down or someone else who doesnt have a big league contract, and remove him from the 40 man by designating him for assignment, then he'd go through waivers, and presuming nobody picks him up, they send him to pawtucket. It doesnt always mean you are releasing them.
  11. WHy is the title of this thread Hanley Ramirez starting 2nite? He is not starting 2nite, he wont start 2nite, and he has very little second base experience. Again, another stupid threat opened up. ehdit: Unless you are referring to minor leagues, then possibly, he wont play 2B for the redsox though.
  12. Ortiz at first base would be a train wreck. What if he got hurt playing in the field. Its unnecessary to have him playing 1B considering we have other decent alternatives.
  13. Sizzlin. You are very correct btw. Unless they decide Petagine is deserving of innings at the big league level (I think he is, hes tearing the crap outta the ball and putting up big .OPS numbers in Pawtucket) Millar has to stay on the team, I would not be oppsed to him spending more time on the bench, however we do need Kevin Millar, and Millar hasnt been nearly as bad as bellhorn. Id rather watch millar line balls into the stands than watch bellhorn buckle at curveballs.
  14. Why does everyone expect Gabe to come here and light it up like he is some savior? What can he provide that Payton didnt? Must I bring up he hit .153 and was released from a Japanese team? Dont understand where the fascination is. He is a good backup OF yes, but its not like hes a sparkplug offensively.
  15. Exactly, I should have been more clear. Millar is a better option off the bench than Mark Bellhorn. That is what I was trying to elaborate on. He is scary in the OF, BUT he can do it on a rare basis, and would be a good RH bat off the bench. Assuming we acquire someone to play second base Alex Cora who isnt good enough to replace Bellhorn as the starting second baseman all of a sudden becomes MUCH more valuable than bellhorn on the bench. Bellhorn becomes the odd man out, Cora can play both Middle infield positions, runs better, defends better, and is a better sacrifice bunter.
  16. Well, he is more useful off the bench than Mark Bellhorn.....if we are going to compare.
  17. Because he had some playoff heroics doesnt mean he should be starting this season. If we had a better option Bellhorn would be gone, the point of the thread is to discuss whether or not we currently have a better option, and the importance of acquiring a better option. Regardless of what the rest of the lineup is doin it is a problem. Its the second biggest problem on the team.
  18. THe Bellhorn situation is alot different than the Millar situation. Millar can play 1B/OF, and if hes on the bench, hes a decent pinch hitting option. Bellhorn has zero versatility, I dont want to see him at SS for more than an emergency inning, and would be a terrible pinch hitting option, and doesnt run as well as stern. If they decide to bench him, they should just give him a pink slip out of town, he would be virtually useless.
  19. Back to the point tho....Bellorn must go. haha
  20. I understand, but he did have really good trade value, especially with Oakland. Its more or less wait and see what we get when he plays 120-140 games. Nothing can be predicted from him yet, but he has impressed, I am just stating the fact that maybe, just maybe we held on to him too long, time will tell. Either way Im glad hes gunna be getting the job next season.
  21. Yeah but Freddy Sanchez, Jeff Suppan, Kevin Youkilis, Joe Hudson, Dernell Stenson, Steve Lomasney, Michael Coleman and every other prospect we held on to for too long and got nothing for say hello.
  22. I think it will be hard to find a suitor for Renterria and his contract and I think the sox are talking up Ramirez to raise his trade value. They are blowing smoke up everyones ass, hes hitting .269 in AA Portland. I think they have realized his potential, and are now trying to get something while they can. Pedroia is the next big thing, Ramirez and Shoppach are the only prospects I see going, and I think Shoppach may even be more valuable because quality catching prospects are few and far between. Again, pointless to move Ramirez to CF, or Soriano to CF, we already have one of the best CF's in the game, concentrate on keeping him.
  23. We cant trade our prospects, we have potential to build a dynasty and allow certain contracts to run out, we have the minor leagues stacked with our future pitching rotation and bullpen which will allow us to spend money to fill in the holes. The system has never looked so good with quality prospects all over the field, its not worth it to give them away to aquire Soriano, who is a very good player, but hes a very good player at a very bad position in baseball which rises his stock. If he moved to CF hed be lucky to break the top 10 CF's in baseball, we already have one of the top 10 CF's in baseball, the move would never make sense and Theo would pull his hair out watching him swing at first pitch curveballs and popping out.
  24. Soriano is anti-every redsox belief in terms of hitting approach, Shea Hillenbrand says hi
