  1. To be honest, I really dont think hes even been that bad. If you take away the first inning in most of his starts hes got decent numbers. Wade Miller is a much better name than other teams roll out there as their number 4 or 5 guys. And Schilling you are right, I thought I remembered reading that somewhere as well.
  2. Good Post SchillingisNatural....good to see other people understand the importance of what he did for this city.
  3. Not once in any of my posts did I say that I would choose Bellhorn over anyone. Not once did I say we should keep him, in fact I've said quite the opposite in other threads. So don't make it seem like I was choosing Bellhorn over anybody else, thats just putting words in my mouth. In fact I have wanted Bellhorn and Millar off the team since June 1st. I am thankfull however of what those guys did. I guess I just appreciate what those guys did more than some people. People say, "its a new year, move on" like we have had the privlege of seeing the sox win 5 championships in the last decade. Well, we haven't, and anybody with baseball knowledge knows that. It was obvious early that Bellhorn was not going to help much, however I will not hold this season against him because without Mark Bellhorn's nail in the coffin in game 7 of the ALCS who knows what happens.
  4. Roger Clemens is not walking through that door. pedro Martinez is not walking through that door. Cy Young is not walking through that door hahahaha. BTW.....Miller is not a bust, we signed him knowing he was gunna struggle at times this season. Lets wait till next year until we judge him. Now he has a year under his belt with his shoulder.
  5. The 1996 Yankees say hello. Girardi, Duncan, Gerald Williams, Ruben Sierra in the starting lineup. A bench of dinosaurs Strawberry, Raines, Fielder, Hayes. Aldrete, Fox. Rotation of Key (4.68 era), Rogers (4.68 era), Gooden (5.01 era) Mendoza for half a year (6.79 era). Torre DID win when he didnt have all those players with albatross contracts.
  6. If the season comes down to 1 game between the Yanks and Sox, Selig will force them to play the game. If not, the sox get the forfeit. There is still a chance the game gets played. The yankees got a forfeit last year from TB i believe, but would have been force to play a 1 game playoff if it came down to it. Long story short, the win doesnt get added until the end of the season, and its not definate. It only counts if its meaningless.
  7. If Lou Pinella were the manager of this team, they woulda turned on him in May. Tito does a great job of dealing with all the babies on this team. That being said, Kevin Millar makes me sick and should realize the options on the bench could benefit the team more than he can. I question Titos lineups sometimes, but I dont think there are many other managers who could do a better job with such tough players to deal with.
  8. I dont think its like a Yankees fan showing up to Fenway. If you look out to the bleachers way up by the Teletron you regularly see fights. Fans at Fenway are brutal. My college roomate is from NY and I refuse to bring him to Fenway.
  9. Somebody asked why all the love for Mark Bellhorn. Well, because he was one of the 25, thats why. The guy should never have to buy a beer while in Boston again. I think people forget we waited 86 years for a World Championship. Every one of those 25 guys should be loved and remembered. Whether its Dave Roberts, Mark Bellhorn, Leskanic, Schilling, McCarty (even tho he was left off the playoff roster)......any of them. He was one of the players who broke the curse, but even further than that, he was the starting second baseman who was very clutch at times. People are so short-sighted. Its unbelievable that people forget it took 86 years to win the WS, and that Mark Bellhorn had a lot to do with changing that. Again....thank you Bellhorn
  10. I disagree. Maybe you missed the 2004 postseason. He does an unbelieveable job babysitting all the babies on the team and trying to keep everyone happy. Terry deals with a lot of crap and he is the lowest paid manager in baseball (which is embarassing considering the crap he goes through). The only thing that bothers me is his loyalty to players who shouldn't be playing. There is not much else he does that bothers me. He is the perfect manager for this group of guys. If Lou Pinella were here half these guys would have been traded, asked to be traded, be very unhappy, asked to be let go or would constantly be fighting with Lou. Can you picture Manny telling Lou he cant play? Can you picture Ortiz telling Lou he wants to hit third not fourth? Can you picture Manny not running out a ground ball? It would be ugly. I dont think many managers in baseball would be able to deal with the crap that Terry deals with with the exception of Joe Torre.
  11. You drove me nuts Bellhorn. You and your strikeouts, but I cant take away from you your postseason heroics. Thank you for 2004, and If you ever come back to fenway on an opposing team, I will cheer you loudly. A local boy from Boston who shined with Sox. Thank you.
  12. I wouldnt be opposed to letting them be key contributers as middle relievers, but I would live and die with Schill as the closer.
  13. Schilling has more value as a starter. But Hansen as a closer? He has no professional experience minus a few innings in Portland. No thanks. Timlin? If Mike Timlin closes who sets him up? Remember, a closer is worthless if you cant bridge the gap between starting and closing. I heard Gammons say that nobody on the waiver wire is worth a deal. Papelbon was a closer in college but again, his inexperience would scare me in a playoff game. I dunno, any other ideas?
  14. This doesnt sound good. I guess I was right. Curt Schilling is the closer for the rest of the season. Mixed feelings about that, but at least its not like we have nobody to step in. Curt is 9/11 in save opportunities. I can live with that.
  15. Ill agree that pitching is the number one problem. The thing is however, it seems like he gives everyone else a day off just to get Millar in the lineup. Now I know that Manny wanted a day off, still Id rather watch Stern play LF than Millar. Stern would have done just as well at the plate, with a little more excitement. He looks god awful swinging the stick. Every at bat same thing....bounce one to the third base coach, pull it into the stands 300 MPH, take an awful swing at a curve and foul it off to the right, then pops up to an infielder. Im tired of excuses to get him in the lineup. Terry will go, "oh hes hitting .600 in his career against this opposing RHP" yet hes only 2/3 against him. Every day he finds a way to get in the lineup, tonight it wouldnt surprise me if he sat Papi and gave the start to Millar just to "get Papi some rest". I am sick and tired of you Kevin Millar, be a man and say "Terry, its in the best interest of the team that I dont play". I would have so much more respect for the guy if he just admit that hes got nothing left. Instead we see him on the Friendly Scoop and listen to him on WEEI saying "its a slump", "look at my career", "last year i was slumping", blah blah blah. Take a seat Millar, grab some pine.
  16. Does anyone else feel this needs to come to an end? Is everyone else ok with him playing the people he is loyal to no matter how much they suck?
  17. I understand his loyalty, but when is it to a point when enough is enough? If Bellhorn were on that roster instead of being released he would still be getting playing time. Millar last night had no business being in the starting lineup. We have two lefties, one of which is a better defensive option(Olered), the other is a better hitting option(Petagine). There is NO excuse for Millar to be playing 1B against a RHP, especially one as good as Colon. I dont care what his career numbers were against him. Did anyone honestly think Millar was going to produce anything? Then there was Embree earlier this year who he kept calling on to get pummelled. I dont know how much longer I can deal with Kevin Millar starting on this team, I am sick of choking on my vomit watching him swing the bat. I am sick of watching him and his belly jiggle as he chases down flyballs. I am tired of the line drives that take the heads off old women in the stands. I am tired of the weak loopers to SS. I am tired of Terry Francona sticking by his boy. I swear Kevin Millar has naked pictures of Terrys wife and threatens him with him. Have mercy on Redsox nation Terry, take Kevin Millar out.
  18. He definately came back to early. He was way too out of shape. I think this is the Curt Schilling we are left with though. Nobody ever went through this kind of procedure so there is no timetable. Also, I have a feeling he put his career on the line knowing the circumstances. I also believe many in the Sox organization were against the whole procedure which allowed him to pitch last season, which is why Dr. James Andrews was let go soon after the season came to a close last year. I am optimistic that he will one day be the old Curt Schilling, however he is not in good shape, he is getting old, and he doesnt have the 94MPH fastball to set up his Split no more.
  19. Exactly Sox fan on the Cape. I love the people who call in on WEEI and say "He has some power, maybe he should start more". HAHA. Its like they expect him to produce .300/20/80 if he were to play more, when in no point in his career has he shown the ability to produce abover average offensive numbers. BTW...Mirabelli is the best backup in baseball.
  20. Mirabelli has done the best job ive ever seen someone do with Wakefield. Years back Hasselman did an ok job, then Varitek was his personal catcher with Hatteberg starting a few years back and Varitek was awful. He simply could not catch it. Then we saw him in the playoffs last year and every pitch also made me hold my breathe like you did BrentD. If another ball skips off his glove the season was over. If Mirabelli doesnt get another hit all season, I am fine with it. His value is unmeasurable as Wakefields personal catcher.
  21. Guybo obviously thinks Edgar Renterria is some bum we picked up off the street. He obviously thinks this Renterria guy is some undrafted rookie we picked up this year. If he knew Renterria really was, and looked at his career numbers, which by the way.....started at the age of 19, he would realize that maybe he has had a little let down of a year, and in fact does not suck. You don't win Gold Gloves by sucking. You don't go to all star games by sucking. you don't win silver slugger awards by sucking.
  22. Id prefer not to use insults, but was offended, sorry in advance to the administrators.
  23. QUOTE] Calling someone a "jackass" and being tough on an internet baseball website makes you look like a moron. And pathetic. Go play your star wars games kid. Second of all, I go to school, right outside Portland, so I have seen him probally quite a few more times than you have, jerkoff. So yeah, I have seen him play alot. Third, comparing a closer in washington, or houston, or LA to a closer in Boston is the dumbest comparison ive ever heard. You seriously want a rookie on the mound closing for the world series champs? I dont care how good he is, what happens when hes booed for blowing a save? Boston is the second, if not the largest market in baseball. What happens when Dickerson and Mustard criticize him? Can he handle the pressure? I dont know but sticking him in there a month and a half before the playoffs in the middle of a division title hunt doesnt make much sense to me. Eat it clown.
