Your an idiot for making fun of the guy who has a speaking disability. For the last time, Johnny Damon has a speach impediment, and if you were a real sox fan, you would know that. I really can't believe this thread hasnt been locked or something. Why make fun of a guy who has a real medical condition? Edited for spelling** -

Im not taking a shot at all Yankee fans. Only the ones who come into Sox forums and are very smug, and intentionally try to piss people off. There is nothing wrong with having pride. -

Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulins. Undrafted third baseman, moved to LF. Surprised many by his power in the minors, Never did anything in the Majors. Played a few successful years in Chiba (Japan). Also played Independent ball. Retired from the Dimondbacks in the late 90s. Brien Taylor. #1 draft pick, got huge contract. Hurt hmiself in a bar fight before he ever threw a pitch. Career minor league statistics....1-10 14.13 ERA, never got out of A ball. -

I think you are referring to RSN. Don't worry, Johnny Damon took the whole female population with him. I wouldn't call myself a "Sox fan" either. I like to consider myself an intelligent baseball mind, open to appreciate all aspects and accomplishments of the game. I know exactly what NY has accomplished and dont need to be reminded of who Babe Ruth was, or how many championships the Yankees won. Im pretty sure I have an understanding of both. Let me ask you this though "Yankee fan". Who was Bam Bam?, what positions did he play? What can you tell me about Brien Taylor? What did his career as a Yankee look like? -

Why do Yankees fans post their opinions about their team under the "Talk Sox" board? You guys know there is a general baseball talk forum for you guys to express your opinions about your hometown teams. I dont give a s*** about how you think JT Snow will look on the Yankees or how he will be coming full circle. I dont go on NYYfans.com and tell everyone how much I would enjoy it if Clemens came full circle. I believe the Forum "Talk Sox" is for Sox fans to talk about the Sox. Its not "Talk Yanks". There is general baseball forum set up for you to express your opinion elsewhere. I dont want to be a dick, but honestly when you make usernames like the ones some of you Yankee fans have, its a direct shot and a calculated blow to piss people off, then your signatures are created in a fashion to further piss people off, then you come in telling everyone how many championships blah blah blah. The funny thing is, I probably know more about your team than you do. Any baseball fan knows the Yankees won 26 championships. Great! grand! wonderful!....you had nothing to contribute to it. Funny how in the early 90's when the Yankees sucked nobody attended their games. I bet when the Yankees sucked in the early 90s you were an Atlanta Braves fan. -

Damon: .316 75RBI 117R .366 OBP 6.17 RC/27 .805 OPS 94SB% 53BB .439 SLG 35 2B Ichiro: .303 68RBI 111R .350 OBP 5.63 RC/27 .786 OPS 80SB% 48BB .436 SLG 21 2B Ichiro had more hits, SB and HR than Ichiro. Thats it. Damon created more runs, scored more runs, had a better OB%, OPS%, walked more in less AB's and got into scoring position more. Everything asked of a leadoff hitter Damon did better than Ichiro. Ichiro stole more bases however Damon was in scoring position more often and created more runs. Advantage > Damon. Is Ichiro a better all around player? Probably. Is he a better leadoff hitter? Not according to those numbers. -

I think we as Sox fans make excuses for why he wasnt resigned. I would kill for players to play for me as hard as Johnny did. We are flip floppers. We complain about how hard Manny plays, then rationalize Damon leaving by saying that he will hurt himself playing so hard. There is no doubt that he will decline, and your PECOTA numbers show that however, the market was set with the Furcal signing and we choose to not foot the bill. I still believe not signing him hurts us more in the longrun. You never know what our prospects will pan out to, just like we know we are taking a risk trading for someone elses prospects. With Damon, at least there was a scale to predict what you were going to get. He may never put up the same numbers as a Yankee, he may do better....but as Sox fans we knew what to expect. -
Damon turned down a bigger offer?
SCM33 replied to 26 Reasons to Hate Us's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I think it was a 6 year 65 million deal he declined. Most likely from Detroit or Balitmore. He initially agreed to a 5 year deal with New York which was reduced to 4 years because Damon "wanted to be a free agent for another 2 year deal at the age of 38" per interview on WEEI. -

I am not sure how thrilled I would be with a platoon. I wish I could see Youkillis get 500 AB. The baseball forcaster predicts him with pretty solid number for 06' With Snow being the lefty, he will get the majority of the time. Neither one is a masher, but I wish Youks could get some more time and maybe try signing somebody without the credentials that Snow has as a solid verteran because I fear he will demand playing time and have an incentive laden contract. -

Says who? Whos to say a prospect it better than the best leadoff hitter in baseball? Give me a break. You can't compare Reed, or Crisp or whoever. Unless they bring in Andruw Jones, there is no better CF in baseball, and its already proven there isnt a better leadoff hitter because we just let him walk over to NY. This will HURT the Sox in ANY way you look at it. Now they are focred to deal prospects, and since other teams know we are desperate, they now have the bargaining advantage. If we upgrade other positions it may not hurt as much, but that isnt happening. Also, whos to say that the market wont go up in a few years, collective bargaining did nothing to deter teams from overspending this offseason or last (See Blue Jays, Orioles, Yankees, Mets). We might be spending that same money in a few years for some jobber. Either way we lost the best leadoff hitter in baseball, and now we are forced to either sign a marginally mediocre CF, trade our young guns and top prospects for a young unproven CF, or overspend ourselves in a few years for some CF who STILL wont put up the numbers that Damon did. We lose any way you look at it. Save yourself the time and dont argue that we will trade Clement for some prospect CF. Everyone in MLB saw the same Matt Clement we did last year, one who is not worthy of a top prospect. So in the end it may cost us Arroyo and a top prospect since other teams are dealing from a more powerful and demanding position knowing that we are desperate for help. This even further weakens the team because now we have to look for a capable swingman/5th starter. Instead of signing Damon, keeping a valuable Arroyo, and holding on to talent we are essentially losing the best leadoff hitter in the game, Arroyo, and top talent just because we couldnt shovel out an extra 12 million. For what? For a prospect CF, or a mediocre Cf....or some free agent we will overspend on anyway in a few years. Not very logical. Also, you seem to think his replacement will be better than Johhny Damon yet you name nobody. Oneredseat...this isnt bashing you in any way either. But I truly believe that in the end that 12 million would have been worth resigning Johhny Damon. I think choosing to not resign him will lead to a domino effect of moves that were not necessary if they would have shoveled out the money in the first place. -

I wonder if he takes a reduced role. He did hit .275 and his OBP was .343 which isnt awful. For his career he is a .357 carreer OBP. Has showed some pop in the past. I wonder if he still feels he is productive enough to play everyday.:dunno: -
SOSH is a different brand of talk. Which is exactly why they are so stingy. I like to read some of their stuff, but at times it is too deep and boring for me to read. They do have some insiders over there however who have a good feel for what the Sox are trying to do.

Dont get me wrong here, I was never really a big Damon fan, but they guy could play the game. I think its smug of Sox fans who literally called him "The Jesus of the RedSox" to take their shots at the guy because he can't speak articulately to the media and decided he was done screwing around with the incourageable RedSox front office who decided to play games with the guy. The thing is about Johnny, he tells it like it is, which is respectable, however he gets the point across is irrevelant, he tells you what he thinks and was always available for a sound byte. Typical Sox fans to blame the guy for making a move in the best interest of himself. Dont confuse this either, it wasnt about the money, he turned down 65 million from a mystery team (most likely Detroit or Baltimore) to play with a WINNER. THat left his option to Boston and New York, and reports claim that Damon called Tito that morning, and tried contacting the Sox all day, and they made NO attempt to get in tough with him. Damon had 24 hours to accept that deal, or walk away from it. Time was running out, and so was the Sox opportunity. Hopefully they learn that you dont run a baseball team like a Big Business. The Sox bit the big one here. -
Yeah, it seems like some of the people I couldnt stand here are no longer posting very much, which is a good thing.

They dont want people going in there making unintelligent one liners which consist of zero thought. Bascially they dont want idiots in there. Many of their members are very intelligent and put a great deal of effort and research into their posts. Unlike here where people just type what they feel and have zero evidence to back up a point. I stopped posting here a while ago because someone would say something, and I would prove them wrong with actual statistical proof and then they get mad and insult you.

You dont have a chance of joining SOSH. Thats the most exclusive, intelligent fansite on the net. There isnt a single Yankee fan on there.

Damon has had a speech problem since he was a child. Real classy to make fun of the guy. I am sure you like to kick three legged dogs and scream in the deafs ears as well? Say what you want about the guy, NOBODY would turn down 12 million dollars, to make it more realistic and put it on our level, would you turn down 12,000 dollars from a rival company? If you answered no you are lying to yourself. How petty of us sox fans to make fun of a problem the man suffers because he took more money from a team who clearly showed more interest while the Sox were jerking his chain with offers comparable to frigin Rafael Furcals. The market was set with Furcal, the Yanks saddled up, the Sox didnt, Good Luck Johnny, No hard feelings from me. If anything, you showed how smart you truly were taking the money, the better contract, and joining a better team which is much more prepared for next year than your old team. -
Final stretch, we are now looking up at the hated Yankees. It's time to see what these guys are made of. David Ortiz has done everything in his power to keep this club afloat. It's time for Renterria to start playing like he can, its time for our hurt guys to step up and deliver heroics much like Schill did last season. Its time these guys do the little things to help this team win, move runners over, make pitchers woirk, and play solid defense. Its time we see the Big Game pitcher David Wells deliver big games like he is capable of doing. Last season our bullpen struggled for a while but they put it together during the final weeks and carried it into the postseason. This team is too damn good to not win the division or make the playoffs at all. There are too many stars on this team, there are too many veterans with postseason experience to not step it up and carry this team on their backs. I think tomorrow they regroup and put it together in the final weeks. If they can come from 3 down to the Yanks, and they can win so many games with walk off atbats during the season, then they can do this. I have all the confidence in the world that they turn this around over the next two weeks. Heres to optimism, lets go Sox, I cant wait till the return to Fenway with the crowd screaming LETS GO REDSOX for 9 straight innings, man do I love home games with the season on the line, lets do this.

Its the law of averages. Its not like hes an old ballplayer who cant catch up to fastballs no more. Ive always thought his swing was pretty awful, but he has been very productive throughout his career. He finally made an adjustment and it looks like he rediscovered the pop in his bat. I wouldnt be surprised if his numbers are .280 15HR 60RBI .770 OPS which isnt that terrible considering the pace he was going at.
-
Point taken. Didnt really think of that variable haha. However, many fans still can't stand him for joinning the Yanks anyway.
