  1. Thanks for helping bring one home, Keith. I hope the Whoppers are thick, juicy, plentiful, and served by Johnny.
  2. That's true everywhere. Oh well, the way you worded it was funny. Sorry for the confusion.
  3. I think you are going about this the wrong way, son. You don't need game with a hooker.
  4. Brilliant. This is so predictive of what they will do next year. Well done.
  5. Newark is a hole. I missed my connecting flight there over Labor Day on my way to a wedding in VT and had to stay at the airport Ramada. Luckily there were two straight nights of open bar (rehersal dinner and wedding) to kill off what I picked up from the bed.
  6. Fixed. Florida will get more than a couple of draft picks for him. It will be a big market club, and that club will extend him for big bucks.
  7. Jus sayin'.
  8. He's walking more hitters, but he's also missing more bats and giving up fewer hits. I think he'd still be a horse in the AL, but he won't make it here. Chicago just invested big bucks on fielding a good team for the next few years, and the only question mark to that team is the pitching staff, IMO. They don't have a bumper crop of pitching prospects coming up soon, so they'll pay the piper to keep their stud.
  9. Place? He'll probably be in low-A this year, and he's young, just out of HS, so I don't see him jumping levels in a year like you see with the college kids. Sept call-up in '10 is probably an optimistic expectation.
  10. Are you telling me you don't think Montero has a high enough ceiling to surpass 10 or so of the guys at the back of the Yankee rankings? I do. It all boils down to the same argument you have been reminded of time and time again. Ceiling vs. Level. Montero was the #1 Int'l signing, but Beltre and Tejada were both top-5's. If someone favors tools over level (which in some cases is just age/experience) then those type of players will make the back end of top-50's regardless of what level they have played thus far.
  11. Place, for his age, has it all. He's got the potential to be a 5-tool player at the highest level. He's one to get excited about.
  12. I agree AZ, Pedroia would be my choice too. I'd even go so far as to add Kris Johnson and Justin Masterson to the list of people I'd keep over Pedroia based on potential. I think Dustin will be a solid MLB 2B, but not spectacular.
  13. I don't see what the big deal is. Whether you want your team to win meaningless games now, or whether you want your team the best chance to get immediate improvement, in the end, you want something good for your team. One thing gives immediate gratification of a smaller magnitude, the other offers future gratification of a higher magnitude. Either way, you love your team. Personally, if my team is out of it, I'm rooting for the potential to get the best possible offseason upgrade. Yeah, I know that due to the lottery there are no guarantees, but having more ping pong balls in the hopper is better than less. And, no matter what happens, the Celts aren't winning the big prize this year. Might as well hope for the big prize of the offseason.
  14. Depends on the situation. If it were for a win, like late in the game to steal a hit from the other team in close game, I think both would. They just have reps for not doing that regularly. Personally, unless the game is on the line, and as long as some caution will keep a good player in the lineup, then playing the rest of the year is more valuable than the one out, IMO. I do know this. If Drew pulls up short in a tight game, he'll never hear the end of it. Never. I hope he knows what he's getting into.
  15. Isn't that what was being compared?
  16. Eyechart is a better defender than Youkilis, and Posada is a better defensive catcher than Varitek, but not a better receiver. Despite Abreu's edge in speed, Drew rates higher than him defensively as a RF. Pedroia will be better than Cano-no. I love the part about the third best pitcher in the Yanks bully being better than the Sox best. What year are we talking about? Everyone in both bully's, other than Rivera, have roller coaster performances from year to year. Don't hold your breath there. That said, I take their BP over ours hands down. But, with Rivera, that would be true no matter who else was there. Experts in the field of sports medicine have all stated that pitching on a regular schedule, with regular rest and conditioning between outings, is much easier on the shoulder despite increased innings. Hmm, let me see, whom do I believe, medical experts or the resident used car salesman? Sorry, not selling that '89 Bonneville today, Gom.
  17. I think Weaver is in for a pretty big sophmore slump. His stuff is pretty ho-hum, but he's deceptive. That will wear off. I don't see how the Tigers can't be #1 going into the season. Sure, the Sox have the potential to be the best rotation in the league, but the Tigers have actually done it with the crew they have, and it was last year. No brainer.
  18. Yeah, I think FO doctrine has been to understate HR lengths ever since Ted retired and everyone forgot they hated him when he was playing. 502', that's right. Don't know where I got 512' from.
  19. Furthest. 512'.
