    This thread has become a shitshow, and this is why. Not that I really care about the thread. I don't even think about the Bears, but I don't get why this was necessary.

    Brentz goes 1/2 with a BB in game 1 of a DH, 1/3 with a HR in the next. Salem line up to .271/.329/.576, with 18 HR in 228 AB. Season up to .308/.365/.607, with 29 HR in 399 AB. Very interested to see what he can do in Portland next year.

    Put your money on the Braves, then. They are the Mavericks. A perennial playoff contender for a long stretch of years with little playoff success. This also means the Phillies are destined to lose in the first round fo a young up-and-comer (Arizona).

    I'm pretty sure he's talking about Matsui as a Yankee FA signing when he came over from Japan. That Matsui was pretty good for the duration of his contract. The one I think it's funny to see is Beltran on the good list, especially in light of the previous Drew commentary. Very similar contract/value situations, to me. Both were overpaid for more years than they provided above contract value production over the duration of their contracts (2 of 5 good years for Drew, 3 of 7 for Beltran). Also, Beltran came closer to his whole contract value because when he was better he was much better, whereas Drew, both above and below the contract value, had less variance.

    They did a study about this and found that approximately 50% of the participants did worse in HR production in the 2nd half, and approximately 50% did better. In other words, it's very unlikely that the HR Derby is responsible for any impact on actual performance. There's smoke, but there isn't a fire.

    That, and, I'm sure they'd like to find a way to get him on the 25-man roster before 8/31. That way, he's elligible for the postseason roster. I'm not trying to get ahead of myself, I realize it may take him some time to find a groove in MLB. That said, sometimes players come up and take off immediately (Ellsbury 2007). If he comes up and does anything like what he's been doing in Pawtuckett, he could be a difference maker off the bench in October.

    Easy now. Moustakas put up a .999 OPS last year across two levels of MiLB ball, with 36 HR, as a 21 y/o. Middlebrooks is 22 this year. Middlebrooks looks like an interesting prospect. Big scouting reports about his tools in his draft year, and it looks like he's starting to put it all together, but let's calm down a bit. I mean, are you ready to hit him up with 20x all-star status like you did with Lars Anderson the year Teixeira was on the market?
