Papelbon did pitch the 9th inning of the Sox's saturday win over the Yanks. 1.0 inning pitched, 1 Hit, 1 Walk, 0 R
-
no, but i still have faith in him. he has proved himself in close and tied games
-
its funny how you just outright Papelbon, thinking he will crumble to the Yankees bats
-
guys i was doing my homework beacuse i was plain sick and tired of hearing yankee fans saying, oh but the Yankees have the better bullpen, yadi yadi yada Red Sox bullpen in September: 27 Earned Runs in 52.1 innings Yankees bullpen in September: 38 Earned Runs in 72 innings that is more innings than the Sox bullpen has had to pitch and also less earned runs that they have given up...

i hope this rain goes away, if a double header is done tomorrow. it will possibly change the rotation against the yankees... Home is where the Sox thrive Toronto (76-79) at Boston (91-64), 7:05 p.m. ET As the Red Sox embark on this critical seven-game homestand to finish their season, captain Jason Varitek hopes that the Fenway faithful will operate at pulsating tones. "I hope that we can generate that energy from our fans no matter what the situation is, no matter what the scoreboard says, that we generate that extra man on the field from our fans to give us that push," said the veteran catcher. All year long, the Red Sox have been a good team at home, bringing a 50-24 Fenway record into Monday's game against the Blue Jays. Curt Schilling, who has pitched well in two of his last three starts, takes the ball for Boston in the opener of this four-game series. The Blue Jays have been tough on the Sox this season, taking nine of the first 14 meetings. Pitching matchup TOR: RHP David Bush • 5-10, 4.45 ERA in 2005 • 0-2, 11.70 ERA vs. BOS in 2005 BOS: RHP Curt Schilling • 7-8, 5.89 ERA in 2005 • 1-0, 9.00 ERA vs. TOR in 2005 Player to watch Look for a bust-out series from David Ortiz, who hasn't driven in a run in his last four games. Quotable "We're going home and we have a lot business to tend to. But at home, we hope to be a force. We have been and we expect to." -- Terry Francona Quick hits The Red Sox finished the season with a 41-40 record on the road. ... Manny Ramirez has bashed five homers in the last five games. ... Ortiz, Johnny Damon and Ramirez are all above the 100-run mark. ... With 95 runs, Edgar Renteria has a good chance to slip into triple digits. ... Ramirez (135 RBIs) is inching closer to Ortiz (140). -

Orioles Look to Spoil Yankee's Playoffs Chances New York (91-64) at Baltimore (70-85), 7:05 p.m. ET The Red Sox took advantage of a critical Miguel Tejada error in the first inning to score five times and never trailed in a 9-3 win over the Orioles on Sunday. The O's have now lost eight straight games and head into a four-game series with the New York Yankees with the Bombers tied with Boston for first place in the American League East. The Orioles are 0-7 in this 11-game stretch against the Yankees and Sox. For the third time, right-hander Rodrigo Lopez is trying to tie his career high win total of 15, set as a rookie in 2002. He pitched well enough to win Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing just a two-run homer to Matt Lawton in the second inning, but that was all the Yankees needed for a 2-1 win. Left-hander Randy Johnson was solid Wednesday against the Orioles, but not his usual dominant self. Many Orioles were irked that they weren't able to score more runs off the five-time Cy Young Award winner. Still, he held the Orioles to one run and three hits in eight innings. Johnson, however, has struggled on the road this season, going just 4-6 with a 5.04 ERA. Johnson is 2-3 with a 4.47 ERA lifetime at Camden Yards. The Orioles' offense has produced just 12 home runs this month, tied with Toronto for the fewest in the Major Leagues. Sunday was the first multi-homer game for the O's since Sept. 1. If the Orioles finish the season without a 30-homer player, it would be the third time in the past six years that has occurred. Tejada leads the team with 26. Pitching matchup BAL: RHP Rodrigo Lopez • 14-11, 4.79 ERA in 2005 • 1-2, 4.94 ERA vs. NYY in 2005 NYY: LHP Randy Johnson • 15-8, 3.90 ERA in 2005 2-0, 3.00 ERA vs BAL in 2005 Quotable "I don't get it. How do they get all of these tickets? I thought Oriole fans bought most of the season tickets." -- Right fielder Jay Gibbons, on the Boston fans at Camden Yards Quick hits With his first-inning home run off John Maine on Sunday, Manny Ramirez tied Cal Ripken for 34th all-time with 431. ... Melvin Mora's solo homer in the first inning on Sunday was the 99th of his career. Jay Gibbons also has 99 career home runs. ... The Orioles have lost five straight games to Boston, and the Sox won the season series, 10-8. ... It was Boston's first sweep at Camden Yard since September 2002 and the O's are 18-41 against Boston at home since 1999.

Rodney Harrison done for the year
riverside sluggers replied to Cityofchampions33's topic in Other Sports
it is a big blow, and harrison has been my favorite player of the Pats (even though its hard to just pick one fav), a big asset to the team. Kind of Ironic Harrison goes down early in the season when playing the Steelers at Hines Field, same what happened to Ty Law who also missed the entire season. Eugene Wilson as we've seen many times come up to make big tackles, interceptions etc. Gus Scott will get more playing time by this happening -
all in all tonight is main game to focus on: Schilling takes the mound for the Sox and hopes to get his 3rd quality start in the last 4 games. Schilling had beat Toronto back in April at Fenway where he had a season high 10 strikeouts in 5 innings. Dave Bush opposes the Sox lineup who in 3 career games (all in 2005) the Sox have roughed him up good, as he is 0-2 with a 11.70 ERA against Boston. His only game at Fenway he lasted just 2 innings giving up 7 earned runs on 7 hits

September 25th @ Baltimore

best pitching: Wells settled down after back to back homeruns, very fitting for his 14th win of the season, went a good distance for the bullpen to be used less and is sure to be a big gamer for Game against Yanks on Friday ---The two Chads, Bradford and Harville blanked the O's combining for 2.1 innings of relief giving up 1 hit, and harville struck out the last batter to end the game best offense: Manny with his 41st shot, hes back with a vengeance and will be a force from now through hopefully into late October. Damon is starting to come back by connecting with his 10th homerun (1st since late August). Edgar has been making great contact as of late, robbed of a 3 run homer that wouldve been his eighth of the season. His triple that was botched off of the outfielder's glove, if he had not tried to attempt to catch the ball it wouldve been another HR. Trot, Tek, and Mueller are also getting back to stride. best defense: Bill Mueller had such an outstanding series with many barehanded accurate throws, keeps on this course and he's a viable and worthy candidate to win the 3rd base gold glover of 2005. Wells also handily turned an inning ending double play. most especially rent has really settle down, and you can see he's not rushing anymore as first he sets his feet before he throws the ball -
looks like Stern will be back next spring as the reserve outfielder, cool to hear I like him as a Red Sox, he did provide some solid D before he had gotten hurt. His baerunning was good, just didnt get to see a lot of at bats from him, best one of course was his 2-run homerun while playing the White Sox.

best come from behind win, they put their shotty first half in the closet and just peformed like champs. tom brady, what else can you say about him really? he is the joe montana of this generation. Tonight he was 31 for 41 (75.6%) for 372 yards!! Adam Vinatieri enough said he is the best clutch kicker in all of the NFL history, i will be shocked if he does not make it to the hall of fame. Its now to focus on next game, home game against San Diego Pats will be unstoppable when their bout with penalties diminishes and dillon gets back to his form, tonight was 22 for 61 yards, did have 2 touchdowns. start running to the left and right, they tried to much to rush him up the middle but got stopped at scrimmage line.
-
and thats another fumble by faulk
-
that looked like pittsburgh defensive line had went off sides--but man pats is going nowhere if they keep making these s***** plays--penalties penalties penalties, faulk's fumble at the goal line, now brady's pick in the red zone
-
it shows very much right now, what matt light means to tom brady
-
faulk fumbling the ball just right befor the goal line was just killer to say the least
