  1. No-no broken, 3-2 game.
  2. BTW, if you're not watching Verlander pitch you're missing something exciting. MLB network.
  3. There have been more stressful trade deadlines though. The Manny-Bay one was pretty stressful. Worse than this. There isn't an overpaid cancer unwilling to play on this version of the Sox.
  4. Don't. Just, don't.
  5. Theo manages the end of the deadline as well as anyone, as far as I can tell. THis is the time to stop leaking stuff to the desperate beat writers, and just get things done.
  6. Gordon Edes should STFU and just let it happen. None of this back and forth s***.
  7. If they aren't out there, they aren't out there. This team can get a mediocre RH OF after the deadline. They aren't going to get Beltran or Pence or anyone notable for the OF. Not any great LHP options either. With an abundance of AAA level players, a 40 man roster crunch, is there anything reasonable about going with best available?
  8. WOuld anyone be shocked if the Sox jumped in on Heath Bell, just to make a move? He's sitting out there. They don't need a closer (or setup man) but every team can use a deep pen and Bell, Bard and Papelbon would be sick. Also would be insurance against Paps leaving next year, if he were interested in sticking around.
  9. He can stay on his dark horse and ride on to NY if you ask me. He's a loose cannon, expensive and unreliable. Garza, please.
  10. I think it is a weird confluence of the Sox needs, the market, and their list of prospects. There may not be many moves today. I like hearing that Theo is continuing to look at Garza. He would be my top priority. Would be a solid addition.
  11. Yes he is. That's why I brought up the question. I was thinking to myself, if I were the Mariners, what return package from Boston would I need to know that my team was better off after dealing Felix Hernandez. That package would have to include a shitload of really, really good talent.
  12. It seems likely he's just not writing his ticket out of town until he knows what's up. He did pitch for the Cubs for a few years, so it's not like he hasn't pitched in a big city or in a baseball-crazy environment. He's not going to come on and say "I'm really disappointed. I wanted to leave this shithole and go to a town where they actually care and play for a team that has a chance to win"... etc.,
  13. "As of now, it remains unclear whether the deal is dead or if there are simply some elements that are still being negotiated." Doesn't seem like reason to dispair. You have been through a trade deadline before, right? It is always like this. Remember a few hours ago the Jimenez deal was off? How do you think the Cleveland fans felt? Remember when the Adrian Gonzalez deal was off because they couldn't negotiate a longterm deal with him?
  14. A seperate tangent for the night-owls, those waiting for the next tweet: A number of you advocated waiting for the off-season when Felix Hernandez might be available. I personally doubt that he will be, but let's pretend for a second that the M's are interested in rebuilding and realize he's worth his weight in gold in talent. Who would the Red Sox need to offer to provide a package that the Mariners could DEFINITELY re-build with? Just curious... I have some ideas of my own.
  15. A lot of speculating, no?
  16. Does Harden have no-trade or 10-5 protection? Weird. Stranger things have happened at the deadline. I'm still confident there's a pitcher out there somewhere for us.
  17. "Someone like" King Felix. Yeah, he or Lefty Grove would be pretty awesome. Or Bob Gibson. I wonder who else might be available.
  18. Traded for V-Mart to CLE.
  19. Can't disagree with you there. Just unsure why the Yankees wouldn't have been in on someone like Harden. Are the Yankees too top loaded with talent, such that other teams only ask for their very best prospects because they have a few of them? Like I noted yesterday, Lavarnway and Middlebrooks were probably the 3rd best picks in their respective classes (BOSTON classes, mind you) but they both look a lot better without Rizzo and Kelly, Hagadone and Westmoreland around. Mostly I just feel a lot better going into a NYY series with the pitchers you listed than I did a few years ago when they had pitchers like Mussina, Pettitte, etc.,
  20. I'm asking about your confidence with those starters facing that lineup. I'm smart enough to know that when the Sox were throwing Paul Byrd or some other piece of crap against the Yankees that it didn't bode well for the Sox.
