  1. alright back on track though - saying clemens is the most overrated player in baseball is ridiculous. Hes one of the top 5 pitchers of all time and arguably the best. Does that make him a good guy? not at all and from what ive seen hes a jerk but games arent won by being nice. Hes a great pitcher and its amazing what hes done at this age. I would take Clemens back in a second because hes a great player - same reason I would take Nomar back. That said I doubt either Nomar or Clemens would come back to Boston anyways.
  2. FWIW Lugo will be making about $5 million next year - TB excersized an option right after the season ended. I dont want Lugo instead of Renteria personally but I wuoldnt mind moving Renteria for Marte and then getting Lugo in a seperate deal.
  3. wakefield was our team leader in ERA, Wins, and K's last year - hes not our #5. I would say he's probably 3-4 this year. But anyways the number only matters at the begining of the season and in the playoffs so its not a big deal. Wells was our opening day starter last year.
  4. yeah i dont see how much more privacy he will get in NY - also making $20 million a year couldn't you just buy a mansion and build a big wall around your property? or if your living at the ritz like Manny just have a guard or something
  5. i know there is little faith in foulke right now but there embree shouldnt have been left in there - you have to bring in either mantei or foulke in that situation. he obviously wasnt getting it done and Tito just basically gave the other team the game by leaving him in to face a righty. Awful management of the bullpen but Wells didnt make it any easier by sucking once again. I really hope we get Schilling back and can get Wells out of the rotation. (Though I know thats only wishful thinking)
  6. yeah booing renteria really helps out because Im sure he's not trying until he gets booed then hes gonna really try. come on what are we yankee fans who boo our own players? we just won the championship last year and are ahead of the yankees in the standings. The fans booing him all the time will alienate him and he's going to hate playing at home. Why not try to support our struggling players instead? We seriously sound like spoiled yankee fans. so what if a couple players are starting slow - are you gonna start booing schilling because his ERA is in the 8's or because Foulke's is in the 7's ? Hes also batting 11 points higher than Belhorn so if your going to boo renteria you should start booing belhorn who has also K'd 50 times this year and is on pace to break his own club record in Ks. Oh yeah and about Millar being terrible at 1B - his fielding % is .991 with a range factor of 9.3 (which happens to be the highest on the team). In comparison perennial GG winner Todd Helton has a range factor of 9.6 this year - not bad company to be in.
  7. thats crazy though to strike out all 18 batters faced. I dont care how good of a pitcher you are the other team should at least be able to put some contact on the ball once.
  8. I would just like to say that I hate Wells. They were +6 going into the final game and he throws that crap out on the field. -13 or something for the game is pathetic and I wish he could be shot for that. Damn I hate that fat man
  9. back to the topic at hand of interleague play - i went to a game between Arizona and Boston a couple years ago when Pedro and Schilling pitched. We lost 2-1 I believe but it was a great pitchers duel. That was easily the best interleague game Ive ever seen. I had great tickets too - like 25 rows behind homeplate.
  10. Ben Sheets just signed a long term contract with the Brew Crew and is their ace so goodluck trading for him. The only Marlins pitcher that they would likely trade would be AJ Burnett who is in the last year of his contract. It would be a wiser move to wait till next offseason and go after him. There is no way they trade Willis or Beckett. Even though I absolutely hate Wells it was his first start off the DL and he had pitched pretty good up to going on the DL. Give him some time - remember he threw that shutout against the Os when they were one of the hottest teams in baseball. I would rather have Wells starting than Jermey Gonzalez any day
  11. Last night Tito switched up the lineup: Damon Renteria Ortiz Manny Nixon Millar VTek Mueller Belhorn I like the new lineup because it puts Trot in an RBI spot and he proved last night with the GS that he should be there. Renteria is also riding an 11 game hit streak so why not have him up there with Damon to set the table for the power hitters. The only thing is that it lowers VTek in the lineup by 1 spot and hes been hitting the cover off the ball. Overall though I think it gives us a much more balanced lineup.
  12. so is an 11 game win streak enough for people to get off his back. I said before, like other on here, that Renteria would be fine. At least it looks like people have stopped crapping on him for the moment. Until he goes 0-5 that is
  13. Youk should be the starting 3B next year, if not at some point this year. Especially if mueller keeps up his inconsistant hitting.
  14. i dont mind the late starts on the weekend. I hate when they have them during the week though
  15. mariano used to have a devastating cutter but foulke has just two pitches - an 88 mph fastball and a change up
  16. obviously not an automatic win but we should have a good shot at it. Doesnt seattle have a pitchers park as well? That should bode well for Gonzalez
  17. W-L isnt meaningless but people overblow its importance. Last year RJ should have won the Cy Young but his awful record due to the lack of offense in Arizona cost him it even though he had much much better peripherals than Clemens. This year Clemens is getting a taste of his own medicine because Houston's lack of offense has already cost him several wins. There was one game that he pitched a 9 inning shutout and didnt get the win cause it went to extras tied at 0. But that said you cant say anything about Dontrell - his ERA is something insane like 1.08. That should win you 7 straight games. Last game he won he gave up 1 run over something like 7 innings and it raised his ERA. Garland and Foulke are better examples though. Some pitchers pitch better in tight games and get more wins so you cant discount that. There is really no way to improve the system though - except for the fact that Foulke should never have gotten the win there. I hate when closers blow a save and get a win.
  18. I said that he was doing slightly worse not all that much worse. He was also getting boo'd by the fans in Anaheim because of his slow start. Renteria is batting .300 in may so far - and yes i know its only been 8 games but its still a positive sign. I think hes gonna turn it around and when he gets hot his numbers will get to his career avgs.
  19. in the last gammons article he mentioned that Turnbow was the first minor leaguer to be suspended for steroids when they first started doing the tests in Jan 2004 while being in the Angels system.
  20. none of the 3 that were swapped are really doing great right now. eckstein has the highest avg but would you have honestly signed him over renteria or cabrera? cabrera is doing slightly worse than renteria.
  21. hey i dont mind if mariano gets a couple saves against the sox this season. nothing will take away those blown saves in the playoffs that helped us win the championship. its not like hes going to blow every save against the sox for the rest of his career. but hes not automatic like he used to be so ill take that
  22. yeah Ill pay attention to the Yankees when they're not in 4th place. More importantly we're only back 1 game of the Os. Anyone else notice that the Os have beat the Yankees 5 out of 6 games this year. Thats pretty much the difference between this year and every other year for the standings in the division. Normally they roll over for the Yanks so its good to see them beating them.
  23. so some people would rather have cabrera than renteria? cabrera is betting .230 with 1 hit in his last 6 games. but cabrera is much better
  24. I have Sheets on my fantasy team and yes he's on the DL with an ear infection that causes him dizzyness. Has anyone ever heard of this type of injury before? He's supposed to pitch against Minnesota sometime in their series from May 20-22
  25. whos BK Kim? I think I mentally blocked out his existence
