Is this a legit question? Come on man. Without fans these organizations aren't s***. Without us fans to buy tickets, beer at the games, jersey's, and everything else these f***ing clubs would all fold into nothing. We don't watch this team for our f***ing health. We put blood, sweat, tears, and money into being a fan, and it's ******** if we don't get the same in return. I'm fine with transitional years and all that but after a while we do deserve to see the team put some effort into improving themselves. I'll be damned if we have to spend more years going out getting player's at the tail end of their careers instead of locking up younger talent for years to come. The front office needs to spend money to make money. They need to take risks. If it turns out there is concern about his arm/health then fine, I can see not offering a large contract, but offering a 28 year old a contract until he's only 33 is pointless. How fair can he tail off by 36? Even if he starts going downhill by 34 so what, that's 2 years of decline and he's gone. Younger talent will be waiting by then. And even if he puts up current David Ortiz numbers by that age it'd be fine with me. Unless there is a legitimate health risk then botching this trade so far has been ridiculous and makes the front office look bad.
edit: herp derp, deal is apparently done. I resurrected myself and bitched for nothing. damn.
