  1. After the fact, both Johnny and Boras made mentions of a 6 year deal out there, and giving up $25 million to play in New York. From the sounds of it, if it is true, someone offered Johnny 6yr $77 million. That comes out to $12.8m/yr, as opposed to the $13/yr he's getting now. He seems to think he won't go Bernie Williams and will be able to make more in the long run by going out on the open market in 4 years.
  2. There was a piece in either the Globe or the Herald last week about how well both Graffanino and Loretta have played SS in their careers. Loretta's career numbers actually would have put him among the top 5 SS last season. Why not keep them both in the middle? Graffanino is making next to nothing after arbitration, and it frees up whatever trade bait the Sox have to find a CF and 1B.
  3. I was skimming through the Sporting News today, and I noticed the name of a kid I used to play with in high school, mentioned twice in two pages. He's been absolutely lighting up the minors this year. Combined with a short 5 inning stint with the Cubs in June, he's got somewhere on the order of 150K's in 95 innings pitched. Absolutely lights out. He's had some control issues in the past, but it seems that they're behind him, with 33 BB in those 95 IP. And to top it all off, he's a hometown kid, right from Milton, MA.
  4. I agree 100% (especially about Bellhorn), but there's a good chance we wouldn't even need to trade for a third baseman, with Youk waiting in the wings.
  5. It's a damn shame. He had boatloads of potential, and was handled poorly when he got to Boston. Now it seems that his physical abilities have fallen to where his mental abilities have always been. It would've been really nice to see him handled properly, build up some much needed confidence, and bring his mental game to where his physical game already was. It also would've been really nice to dump him off before his stock completely plummeted this spring.
  6. He *was* a cancer in the clubhouse all last season.
  7. Agreed, but if they're running the park 365 days a year, it doesn't leave much time for construction for improvements such as the right field roof seats or the Monster seats. I think it's great that the new ownership wants to stay in Fenway, but let's be honest, Fenway still needs a lot of work to be even close to on par with many of today's modern stadiums.
  8. Last I checked, Francona had already said Arroyo is very likely to be the guy in the pen once everyone is healthy. Tito actually said he'd rather keep Wakes as a starter because he's too old to be moving to middle/long relief. It doesn't totally make sense, but if you look at it from the perspective of his typical routine, moving back to the pen could be like trying to teach an old dog new tricks.
  9. If they go out and sign Wells, I'd take it as them throwing the towel in on the Pavano Cup. I can't see them signing Petey, Pavano, AND Wells, can you?
  10. Yesterday in either the Herald or the Metro, I read they were looking at Delgado.
