  1. Right, that was my point. All I'm saying is that they have guys who are capable of doing really nice things, but I would admit that those nice things are more likely to come in 2009 or 2010.
  2. Offensively he's pretty bad. Outside of Posada, the free agent market for catchers this off-season is weak at best.
  3. Why would the New York media go out of their way to spin things in favor of the Yankees? Remember, they're more vicious towards the teams in the city then they are supportive.
  4. I think you missed the point of my post. I said that the rotation has the potential to be very good. The key word there is potential. Hughes, Chamberlain, and Kennedy, while all being question marks (due to their ages), have the potential to be good. I'm not saying that as a definite, but, again, my original point was that the staff could be good. It's not an awful staff by any means which some of you guys are making it out to be. That's the staff as it is now. As I said before, there are other possibilities...
  5. I think you'd agree that the Yankees' starting rotation has the potential to be quite good, especially if there is an addition from outside the organization (Santana).
  6. Yeah, either way, there was no way the Red Sox were going to give him that fourth year, in my opinion.
  7. If the Yankees did indeed pull their offer off the table then there goes everyone idea that they were just trying to drive the price up. I don't think they were driving up the price from the beginning, just because I don't see the point of doing it for reasons mentioned earlier in the thread, but this would pretty much prove that it was a legitimate offer.
  8. I high doubt that. The Red Sox sound really firm about not going beyond three years, and there is no indication that they will cave.
  9. At least I'm not getting any of my comments from a month ago posted. This is a business, and A-Rod made a business decision when he opt'd out. It should be left at that.
  10. Uh oh, better not bring up the idea that A-Rod was the one that came back to the Yankees. People here aren't taking kindly to that.
  11. Again, youth is not something you need to win a world championship if you're talking about one season. Take a look at the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks.
  12. 26-6, lets assume for a second that the Yankees do indeed re-sign A-Rod. After we make that assumptions, I would just like to know why you are against trading Hughes and Cano for Santana (assuming we sign him to an extension)? Lets just focus on Hughes and Cano and not on the farm system as a whole.
  13. Rotoworld just posted that according to CBS4 in Boston, the Yankees are offering Mike Lowell a four year contract between 56-60 million dollars. If this is true, I have a hard time believing that he is going to get that kind of money and number of years anywhere else. If this is indeed just between the Red Sox and Yankees, it would come down to how much Lowell really enjoys playing for the Red Sox and if he would be OK with switching to first base. The Yankees clearly have the Red Sox beat with their offer, so the other things would have to outweigh the money for Lowell to stay in Boston.
  14. As I've stated in the other threads, I think his numbers will probably go down if he's not playing 81 games at Fenway Park, and the Yankees would be losing the draft picks to the Red Sox. It would be an upgrade, but i'm pretty much against this. I can see why they're doing, but I think there are better ways to solve the first base issue (a platoon of Betemit and Duncan would be fine by me). There is no doubt Lowell is a solid offensive player, but at his age, and considering he's leaving Fenway, I'm not sure if he'd be able to keep it up. EDIT: And considering how much they've spent on A-Rod, Posada, and possibly Rivera, it would probably be better to just go with the in-house options at first base.
  15. Common, lets be honest, the playoffs are more or less a crapshoot. Yes, the Red Sox were the best team, but some the other teams could have won also. If the Yankees add someone like Santana to what they had from last year, I think they would be legitimate championship contenders. But let me say this again, the playoffs are a crapshoot, and the Yankees can easily win the World Series next year with a similar team.
  16. I also saw that he wants four years. Not sure which report is accurate, but he's clearly asking for much more than he is worth either way. Part of me gets the feeling that with everything that's happened, he might just not want to come back.
  17. I'll say this again. This was something the Yankees needed to do. He could not have been replaced. They barely made the playoffs, and take a look what they would have been offensively if you substitute an average offensive third basemen in for A-Rod. Yes, they're paying him too much. Yes, they've given him too many years. But guys (Yankee fans), this is not coming out of our pockets. I agree, the front office doesn't look great, but in the end the team is better off. For the people who cursed A-Rod off, and now love him again, that's hypocrisy at it's worse. But I, for one, am enjoying the fact that they are bringing him back.
  18. It an upgrade, but as SITN pointed out, there are a lot of problems with him, especially when it comes to leaving the Red Sox and Fenway Park. EDIT: He's also a type A free agent.
