  1. I don't really look at all of those as giveaways. I actually look at many of them, as someone else said, as washes. I don't believe in any conspiracies to help the Yankees, and part of that is because I'm a Yankee fan who obviously doesn't want to believe in that. I'm curious JHB, I know you've stated the possibility of a conspiracy...how exactly do you think one would work in this case?
  2. OK, that's fair. My only point was that even though they aren't winning championships something should be said for getting to the playoffs with such a low salary. Clearly the Red Sox face better competition each year due to the division they play in, but it's not like the Red Sox are spending the same amount of money that the Twins and the Athletics do/did.
  3. Finally gametime...good luck all.
  4. I think it's more that they would be judging Washburn over his last two months...
  5. Wouldn't you agree that winning those eleven games in the postseason is due to having some luck also? Isn't it more relevant that teams like the Athletics and the Twins have made the playoffs over a 162 game schedule rather base it on the success over a few short series? I agree that payroll does matter, that's quite obvious. All I'm saying is that when looking at the success of each team isn't it more relevant to look at regular season results over postseason results simply because the regular season offers a much larger sample size?
  6. He's not saying that the pitch to Lowell was a strike. Also, Gom, I agree that both were balls, but the pitch to Lowell was a bit more inside than the pitch to A-Rod.
  7. Like I said, the main reason I put that in my sig was that all the Yankee fans here, mostly jacko, were blaming Torre for every little thing, most of which wasn't his fault. I agree, he was poor at managing the bullpen, but he made the playoffs every year...that has to count for something. I understand that the players get a lot of the credit for that, but some of it has to fall to the manager. He gets blamed when they lose but he gets no credit when they win? Something is wrong with that. You can't have it both ways. There were negatives with Torre, clearly, but it got to the point where the positives weren't being acknowledged and that's an issue in my book.
  8. Agreed 100% with the first part. As for the second part I also agree somewhat although I tend to give the pitchers more credit for their successes than the manager.
  9. Let me preface this by saying that I agree with you. I stated that I really give the pitcher's credit and not the manager. All I'm saying, and I know this can't be proven, is that from the perspective of someone that has watched or listened to many of the Yankee games, I feel that Girardi simply utilizes his pitchers better than Torre did. Torre has clearly overused or underused a number of relief pitchers in recent years. Again, what I'm saying about Girardi's bullpen usage cannot be proven, all it is is my observation.
  10. Well, to be fair, I do think that Joe Girardi puts his relief pitchers in better spots than Torre did, but I obviously can't prove that. However, as I stated before (and I'm sure this is what you're implying) this is because guys like Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras have simply pitched much better this year.
  11. Rasner against Slowely...lets hope the bats are out for the Yanks.
  12. Absolutely, and Girardi gets some of the credit there, but I give most of it to the players themselves. The fact of the matter is that I only really put that in my sig because jacko blamed Joe Torre when it rained and it seemed like no one was sticking up for the guy that makes the playoffs every single year.
  13. Shocking... As a DH or a first basemen his value really declines in my opinion. Obviously if he opts not to have surgery he won't be able to catch, and considering he won't ready by the start of the season next year unless he has surgery soon, I think he should end his season now.
  14. Because Joe Girardi has just been a genius...
  15. It's all that aura and mystique...
  16. Didn't someone sign up during the middle of the season last year that was like the most pessimistic fan ever just like this one...?
  17. I agree especially considering he threw his catcher's mask. The only thing I can think of is that the umpire realized that he may have made a mistake.
  18. Bad call gives the Twins a run. I can't say the runner was definitely out but it looked like his hand snapped back when molina's glove was close to his hand, indicating that there was probably contact.
  19. It is possible that posada will start to catch more often in the second half if they think it will translate to more offense.
  20. I was also referring to his time with the Rangers when he had an ERA+ of 106. Also, during his time with the Yankees, he had two very good starts and one poor start, all three of which they won. From your number five starter, that's far from awful. Granted, his WHIP is probably not going to translate into a great deal of future success, but so far this year, terrible is not the proper way to describe his results.
  21. I never said it would last. All I'm saying is that despite his very high WHIP he has had some pretty good results so far this year.
