I don't think anyone is saying that there should not be a mixture of both, but telling someone to watch the games tends to be a dismissal of concrete, statistical evidence.

On top of that, he stated that Holliday hot dogged on other plays during the NLDS, and that was proven to be incorrect. Rhet, you have to understand that your argument holds very little water, especially after your examples were invalid.

Lol, I wouldn't lie over something so trivial. Regardless, I don't think you can watch them if you don't have an MLB.TV subscription.

Well, Rhet, take this for what it's worth, but I just went back through all the games of the STL-LAD series. I used baseball reference to determine how many outs Holliday recorded on fly balls in all three games, and then watched each one with MLB.TV. Game 1 - 0 Game 2 - 1 (3rd out of the bottom of the 7th off the bat of James Loney) Game 3 - 2 (2nd out of the top of the 1st off the bat of Andre Ethier, 3rd out of the top of the 7th off the bat of Casey Blake) He didn't do that basket catch on any of them.

Ah, OK. I mean, I don't think that he hot dogged the line drive in question by any means. But if Rhet has other examples of him styling in the outfield, then his claims would hold some merit. If he doesn't have any, then I don't see how he can continue to stand behind his claims.

Right, I agree with you about the defensive metrics. As for WAR, you don't think that should factor in?

That's fair. I probably misspoke on Teixeira, but I think a lot of it depends on what you think of Teixeira as a defender. Obviously, the general perception is that he is excellent, but his UZR/150 was -4.1. Personally I found his defense to be fantastic, but it certainly is interesting what his statistics say.

Yeah, I agree that Mauer should have won, but it was surprising that he didn't lead the AL in WAR. Obviously OPS relies on averages, so the fact that he missed a month, when it comes to OPS, is irrelevant (not sure if you were trying to equate the two). My main point was that Zobrist should have received a lot more votes.

I would have given it to Mauer also, but what is interesting to take note of is that, while Pujols led his league in WAR, Mauer didn't do the same. Ben Zobrist: 8.6 WAR Joe Mauer: 8.2 WAR While WAR isn't the end all be all (like I said, I give it to Mauer), it counts for a lot. Obviously, because of who he is, Ben Zobrist isn't going to garner many votes. Jeter finishing third was also accurate, but Teixeira got way too many votes.

Well, I think a little bit more of the values than you do, but, if you look, I said Damon will command anywhere from 8 to 10 million a year (less than what fangraphs has him at over the previous two seasons). I see the value to signing Matsui, and if the Yankees did that, I wouldn't be upset (as long as it for the contract you're suggesting). However, I also see the value in not bring him back, for the reasons I already mentioned, and I think the Yankees need to look into that. If they bring him back, and he's hitting, they're not going to want to start taking up to ten ABs away from him each week. That would mean less rest for guys like A-Rod, Posada, Jeter, and Damon, and I don't think that's good, not only for 2010, but for the future of the club. -
