  1. No contract talks have started on Santana By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff November 29, 07 05:39 PM As of early this evening Johan Santana's agent had not yet begun negotiating with any team in regard to a contract extension for his prized left-handed starter, according to a major league source familiar with the situation. If he had that would be a sign that a team had agreed to a deal to acquire the coveted lefty and would then try to seal the deal by signing Santana to a long-term extension. This is what makes this deal so hard to put together. The Red Sox appear to be smack in the middle of the action, according to one major league source. There's a lot of silence coming from Yawkey Way, always an indication there's something big in the works. According to what we've been told by a couple of major league sources is that the Sox would be willing to part with Tony Conigliaro Award winner Jon Lester over Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden over Justin Masterson. The Twins would take Coco Crisp to be their new center-fielder instead of the untouchable Jacoby Ellsbury, but doing that means the Sox would have to kick in another significant prospect. While sources did not confirm who that prosoect was, ESPN reported that it might be shortstop Jed Lowrie. At this stage the Twins are still trying to sort out who is willing to offer what. The Yankees are still very much in the hunt with their talks centering around Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano. The Angels appear to have the wherewithal to make a deal quicker than anyone else because of the available young players and an abundance of pitching after they acquired Jon Garland from the White Sox in exchange for former Red Sox shortstop Orlando Cabrera.
  2. This comes down to who's going to blink first and give up the 2nd A level major league ready prospect. If the Red Sox subsitute Ellsbury for Crisp he'll be in Boston tomorrow. If the Yankees make it 2 of the three Pitchers or add Cano he'll be in NY by tomorrow
  3. Definitely tragic. And on Thanksgiving also.
  4. Thabeet needs to pull a Hibert and stop being softer than bread pudding if Uconn is gonna make some noise. I agree with Dickie v, he needs to stuff that ball like any 7footer should.
  5. Uconn and #3 Memphis tied with 9 mins to go.
  6. http://www.redsoxsuperfan.com/blogger/images/bonds_rookie.jpg I can remember when he was just a rookie
  7. Oregon Loses. Since #2 USC lost to Stanford...the #2 team is 2-5
  8. I'm talking him up because we haven't had a true point guard since Sherman Douglas. G-Mac was good, but he wasn't a true PG.
  9. Olney on Mike and Mike this morning -Who will be the Yankees opening day 3rd baseman? Olney: ARod -Says Boras overplayed his hand -ARod is considering going straight to Hank and Hal to work out a deal -Hank and Hal will only do it in a face to face meeting w/ no Boras in the the room. The deal must be done in the room and if they feel Boras is involved in anyway there wont be a deal
  10. Ummm ... lets see he scored 28 in the season opener... he has it all. He can score, he has vision, his passing can be fundamental or and1/globetrotter style (see the accurate half court oop to greene), he's got moxy, hes got a jumpshot, hes tough to the hole, he can hit his freethrows, hes a leader, hes a clutch shooter, AND hes a freshman. He didn't put up the points, but he played very well. Lots of passes that set up the pass for an easy bucket. I love the fact that he had the confidence to take that three pointer in stride after the night he was having from the floor. That alone speaks volumes. He's a leader for sure. St. Joes is a tournament team, they have experience, decent shooters and a big man that could definitely play in the big east. We have the #2 recruiting class, of course theres gonna be growing pains. We have 4 guys that could put in 20+ on any given night (Devo, Jonny, Paul and Donte) We will become harder to defend as the season goes on. Many people are criticizing our defense (although Coach K has started copying our 2-3, and having Boeheim critique it) Our learning curve on defense seems to be fast. Harris had a huge game and played great other than a few blunders, most notable making his last free throw with .8 on the clock alowing ST. Joe's to in bound and get off a shot rather than rebound and not get off a shot. Jonny has the icy waters of Niagra Falls in his veins. After having missed every shot he took up to that point he stroked an NBA three to win it for us. He knew he was going to make that shot. Even Len Elmore was saying that we had to put the ball in his hands. It was an NBA range 3 then he makes the smart foul when we are up 3. I have a feeling Harris is gonna get runned by Boeheim in practice though. I am sure that he was told to miss it. Anyway, we will be really good by mid-season because Flynn won't let us be bad. You're lying to youself if you don't want this kid on your team.
  11. The Frosh continue to dominate. Jonny Flynn was amzing tonight. FIRST GAME IN COLLEGE: 10-13 from the field...including 6-7 from 3... 28 points...breaking Melo's team record for points by a freshman making his debut... Plus throw in 9 assists and 5 boards... I am pretty damn excited about this upcoming season.
  12. 60 mil over 4 years. Extremely pricey, but the Yankees really had no choice; the market for catchers is extremely dry. It was either Jorge or go to someone who sucks, i.e. Lo Duca. From: NY Daily News
  13. Florida is asking for Joba or Hughes, and the Yankees aren't gonna give either of them up. Although, they offfered Melky and Hughes for Peavy. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/11/11/cabrera.suitors/index.html Joba not going anywhere under any trade Hughes will only go for Santana or Peavy Kennedy I can see being moved for Cabrera That said there price is way to high for him. Offensivly he is a monster everything else he does though is avg to below avg. This will take awhile for him to be traded b/c I'm sure Boras will want to keep ARod on the market untill it gets done and I'm sure the Marlins are waiting for ARod to sign
  14. he def. will the yankees, angels, dodgers, and phillies would all give him 4+ years IMO. Yankees were rumored to be giving him 5.
  15. I knew they were going to drop the "Devil" because they said when people talked bad about the team they said Devil Rays, and when they said something good (which is not often) they said Rays. But I thought they were going to stick with the fish theme, not this lame rays from the sun. Maybe this is not the most PC thing to say, but that logo looks like it should be the logo of some all gay baseball team. And does this mean they will be taking the fish tank with the Devil Rays swimming in it out of the Trop? That is a highlight of going to most games in St. Pete.
  16. USC loses to Mercer 96-81 Mayo had a much better second half and put up 32 points. But I guess when you put up 27 shots, your bound to put up some points. I've been saying it, I've screamed it before and its going to be true all season long, USC has no talent on the team besides Mayo and he is going to ruin what little chemistry that they have by being a selfish PG. He knows he is a one and done player and he will take all the bad shots, score all the points to try to show off his skills and USC will pay dearly for it. He is the college version of Kobe, and he will score 30-40 points a game and the team will still lose. It's ironic how the most selfish player in the NBA, and the most selfish player in the NCAA, play in the same city. Does anyone else see the pattern? The pattern of teams that play like a family vs the teams that play like they have only 1 player. LA Clippers = good, UCLA = good LA Lakers = bad, USC = Bad USC gone from the Top 25 in the first week, just like I though. Next comes Stanford, and Arizona may even follow in the coming weeks. Oregon and UCLA are the only sure things from the Pac-10 7 NCAA teams my ass! Mercer is awful, they were ranked #275 last year and their best win was vs # 265 Gardner-Webb. Looks like UK and USC are making us learn all the names of all the teams in the Atlantic Sun conference so well.
  17. kids got some balls
  18. Let's not overblow the ARod in the postseason thing. Miguel Cabrera - 68 at bats, .786 OPS Alex Rodriguez - 147 at bats, .844 OPS Derek Jeter: 495 at bats, .846 OPS Manny Ramirez - 353 at bats, .889 OPS David Ortiz - 189 at bats, 1.005 OPS For all the talk about Jeter's postseason heroics and ARod's colossal failures, they've put up quite similar offensive lines.
  19. these fans REALLY miss the free wheeling Pitino era. I can't blame them, but I am sooo glad he moved on. Kentucky was positioned to start a dynasty like UCLA. I just can't stand their fans, most obnoxious and under informed group I have ever met. I have been able to crack a few of my close friends here one on one, but in a group they go right back to ignorance.
  20. I think this move will pay off for the Phillies. I just think Brad Lidge needed a change of scenery. After Pujols hit that ball off him onto the train tracks in the 2005 NLCS he wasn't the same pitcher. The media in Houston were relentless with him. He'll do well in a new setting I think.
  21. i have a man crush on donte greene and jonny flynn
  22. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21599182/ NEW YORK - Alex Rodriguez apparently could remain a New York Yankee yet. According to a report in the New York Post on Wednesday, the Yankees are ready to reverse their position of not dealing with Rodriguez in free agency by offering the All-Star third baseman arbitration. While it is unlikely Rodriguez would accept a one-year deal, that would be fine by the Yankees, who want to use arbitration to get something in return for the soon-to-be American League Most Valuable Player.
  23. According to the Boston Herald, the Red Sox and Curt Schilling are nearing the completion of a new incentive-laden one-year contract. Schilling told the Herald that talks, "gathered momentum and if they continued to progress like they did (yesterday) something could potentially get done." No word on money, but Schilling was looking for a $13 million extension prior to last season. Philadelphia, St. Louis and Houston had all shown initial interest in the free agent veteran this offseason. "Talks with the Red Sox are moving. Theo and I have spoken multiple times daily over the past week and given the current situation I am feeling very confident that we will be able to finalize a 1 year contract to allow us a chance to finish our career as members of the Red Sox organization. There are some things to iron out and details that must be finalized for both sides but barring something unforseen or outrageously odd happening I feel very comfortable that I will finish my career here."-- 11.5.07, Curt Schilling, 38Pitches.com, late in the evening
