http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/4389.jpg Marquis Grissom Giants Grissom not retiring Aug 3 - Designated for assignment Tuesday by the Giants, veteran outfielder Marquis Grissom, 38, says he has no plans to retire and hopes to land with a contender, The Contra Costa Times reports. "I understand where the team is coming from, there's no hard feelings; the team is looking at some young guys and is going in a different direction," Grissom told the newspaper. "We'll see what happens, and hopefully somebody else gives me an opportunity to play for them. I don't think this is it for me." WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/kan.gif Kansas City K.C. still looking for OF help Aug 3 - Though the non-waiver trade deadline has passed, the Royals are still searching for a young, power-hitting corner outfielder, The Kansas City Star reports. Unable to acquire outfielders Kevin Mench (Rangers), Austin Kearns (Reds) or Adam Dunn (Reds), the Royals have turned their attention toward what GM Allard Baird describes as "projection" prospects such as Jeremy Hermida (Marlins)and Felix Pie (Cubs) and Jonny Gomes (Devil Rays). Tuesday, August 2 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/6550.jpg Juan Pierre Marlins Yankees? Cubs? A Bronx tale? Aug 2 - Juan Pierre in pinstripes? The Marlins center fielder is a possible free agent after this season, and there are Yankees officials who love his defense and disruptive baserunning, the Bergen Record reports. Pierre is making $3.6 million and becomes arbitration eligible this winter. The Marlins could deem him too expensive to sign long term. WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/4917.jpg Bret Boone Twins Retirement for Boone? Aug 2 - Designated for assignment by the Twins on Monday, Bret Boone is unsure if he'll play again, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "It's a major commitment," Boone told the newspaper. "And I've got to decide if at this stage of my life whether I'm willing to make that commitment. I think I am. Right now I'm not going to make any rash decisions." The 36-year-old second baseman was hitting .227 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 88 games with the Twins and Mariners. Seattle released him last month. WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/6246.jpg Jacque Jones Twins Royals? Welcome to Kansas City? Aug 2 - The Royals' quest for an outfielder with some pop is likely to continue in the coming months, the Kansas City Star reports. While the team sees few viable options in the pending group of free-agent corner outfielders, one potential fit is Minnesota's Jacque Jones, whom industry insiders expect to command a multi-year deal in the neighborhood of $5 million a season. The other top pending free agents are veteran players either past their prime, weighed down by recurring injuries or both: Moises Alou, Brian Giles, Dmitri Young, Rondell White, Matt Lawton and Reggie Sanders. WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/6285.jpg Mark Redman Pirates Yankees? Yanks for the memories? Aug 2 - Pittsburgh's Mark Redman still could be an option for the Yankees this year, the Bergen Record reports. He holds a $4.95 option for 2006 and might slip through waivers. WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5051.jpg Eddie Guardado Mariners Red Sox? Yankees? Everyday exit? Aug 2 - Don't be surprised if Eddie Guardado is wearing a different uniform soon. The Mariners closer dodged a bullet when he wasn't traded by the non-waiver trading deadline, but according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, a deal could still happen. The players involved in any potential trade must clear waivers before they can be moved, and other teams can block deals by claiming the players to be dealt. "We all know that trades can still happen," reliever Shigetoshi Hasegawa told the newspaper. "We sometimes forget it, but we know that it's not over. Now we'll have to wait and see what happens." WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/teamlogos/mlb/sml/trans/mil.gif Milwaukee Job security Aug 2 - At some point before the end of the season, owner Mark Attanasio is expected to announce an extension of GM Doug Melvin's contract, which expires after the 2006 season, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports. Once Melvin's future with the team is secure, he will consider extending manager Ned Yost's contract beyond the 2006 option the team exercised Aug. 1. "That's possible," Melvin told the newspaper. "Right now, we're taking it one step at a time. Ned and I have had talks. We'll sit down and address it at some point."

Thursday, August 18 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/6363.jpg J.C. Romero Twins Maybe a change would do him good Aug 18 - Twins reliever J.C. Romero has not asked for a trade, but the 29-year-old left-handed reliever suggests he might be better off playing for another team, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "You look at other guys who were here, like Casey Blake (now with Cleveland) and Big Papi (Boston's David Ortiz)," Romero told the newspaper. "They turned their careers around somewhere else. I just want to be the best I can be. If that means going somewhere else to do that, that's what I'll do." WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://insider.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5503.jpg Ruben Rivera Now playing center field ... Aug 18 - Looking for a defensive upgrade in center field, the Yankees are interested in signing Ruben Rivera to a minor-league deal, The New York Post reports. "It is something I will probably do," GM Brian Cashman told The Post. "I am not opposed to it. His season is over and he is free." Rivera spent this year playing for the Campeche Pirates in the Mexican League. Tuesday, August 16 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/4305.jpg Ken Griffey Jr. Reds White Sox White Sox still angling for Junior Aug 16 - Center fielder Ken Griffey has cleared waivers, and the White Sox have offered the Reds at least a pair of minor-league hitters, The Chicago Tribune, citing a major-league source, reports. Reds management, however, appears unwilling to approve the deal, which would require the team to eat a substantial portion of Griffey's contract. Reds COO John Allen reacted angrily to the Griffey rumors, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. "There's nothing to it!" Allen told the newspaper. "There's no trade talk going on! There's no trade! I'm not commenting on it. Where do you guys get this stuff? Who promulgates this story is beyond me." WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5831.jpg Mark Bellhorn Red Sox * Around the 'Horn Aug 16 - Mark Bellhorn may be designated for assignment when his 20-day injury rehab stint ends on Saturday, The Boston Globe reports. If he clears waivers, Bellhorn can opt to become a free agent. Saturday, August 13 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5848.jpg Kevin Millwood Guardians * Mill rate going up Aug 13 - With the fourth-best ERA in the American League, Guardians right-hander Kevin Millwood -- a free agent at season's end -- will likely have some big-market teams bidding for his services, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "I enjoy it here, and I'd definitely be up to talking about staying, but there are no guarantees," Millwood told the newspaper. Millwood will earn $7 million this season. Wednesday, August 10 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/3932.jpg Jamie Moyer Mariners * Yankees wanted Moyer Aug 10 - The Yankees claimed Jamie Moyer on waivers, but the 42-year-old left-hander rejected the opportunity, the New York Post reports. The Yanks' refusal to offer Moyer a contract extension may have killed the deal, according to The Post. Moyer, a 10/5 player, reportedly turned down a deal to Houston last month. Friday, August 5 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/4143.jpg Jose Mesa Pirates * Mesa still on the table Aug 5 - The Pirates want Jose Mesa to be their closer in 2006, and it appears the feeling is mutual, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. "No question about it, I would love to be here again," Mesa told the newspaper. "But that's up to them. If I'm here, I will be very happy again." Mesa, 39, has a 2006 team option worth $4 million. If the team declines the option, Mesa is owed a $500,000 buyout. The Pirates, however, may opt to negotiate a deal at a lower salary. WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/4364.jpg Wilson Alvarez Dodgers On his own terms Aug 5 - Wilson Alvarez informed the Dodgers on Thursday that he will retire at season's end, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. Alvarez, who has been fighting chronic pain in his left shoulder, will walk away from a $2 million salary for 2006. WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5062.jpg Aaron Sele Rangers Yankees Yanks pursue another veteran arm Aug 5 - Free-agent pitcher Aaron Sele and the Yankees continue to talk, The New York Post reports. Sele, who was released by the Mariners, is expected to make a decision this weekend. Thursday, August 4 WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5536.jpg Billy Wagner Phillies New deal or free agency? Aug 4 - Billy Wagner will pursue free agency if he does not get a contract extension with the Phillies by the end of the month, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "The door is open, but it doesn't seem to be anything real serious," Wagner told the newspaper. "I think [Phillies general manager Ed Wade] understands that if I play this whole season out, I'm not going to sit there and turn free agency down. That would be stupid on my part."

damon didn't lie to congress, by comparing him to palmeiro you're comparing apples and oranges I know you are hoping that he did test positive, then you might have a chance to get into first place with the 10 day suspension -
OK I want these tickets because every game I've ever gone to the red sox win including a sweep of the mariners a couple years ago when they were good. My dad is a yankee fan and he should see what a "good" team looks like and take a picture of the standings on the monster that show Boston in first place! and it would be the perfecty back to school gift.

General manager Theo Epstein said yesterday that Keith Foulke (knee) will likely work as a middle reliever initially when he returns from the disabled list. Epstein said Foulke will ''get his feet wet again'' before resuming closer duties. so will timlin close, and could foulke set up, and curt back to the rotation? and for nixon: Trot Nixon (oblique) is expected to take batting practice against Keith Foulke (knee) today. Nixon is farther along in his recovery than Foulke, and could be ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment within the next few days.

General manager Theo Epstein was evasive yesterday when asked about Double-A closer Craig Hansen joining the Red Sox. ''We have no plans to make any roster moves but things change,'' Epstein said. ''He stands out with his size, presence, stuff and command.''

X-rays on Tim Wakefield's ankle were negative. He's day-to-day with a contusion. The Red Sox said it was too early to know if he would make his next start. Monday's an off day, so they can push Wakefield back to next Saturday if necessary. -
gonzalez has pitched 4 innings in a row, so him and bradford I think were off limits. as for remlinger: Mike Remlinger, probably already in his last days with Boston, was charged with five runs in two innings of relief tonight in the 13-4 loss to the Angels. Adrian Gonzalez is back with the Rangers, so the Red Sox might now have the most poorly conceived roster in the league. Including switch-hitter Jason Varitek, they had five left-handed hitters riding the pine against Bartolo Colon tonight. They can't carry both Roberto Petagine and John Olerud then have them on the bench against a right-hander. They're already wasting a spot on seldom-used Rule-5 pick Adam Stern. Because they have five bench players, Mike Myers was the first reliever in tonight, and the lefty specialist immediately gave up a three-run homer to right-handed-hitter Juan Rivera. We're in favor of carrying 11 pitchers, but when one is only good against lefties (Myers), one is only good against righties (Chad Bradford) and one isn't any good at all (Remlinger), the math just doesn't work. Manager Terry Francona and GM Theo Epstein have to get on the same page and soon.

Johnny Damon denied a rumor that he tested positive for steroids. ''No way,'' Damon said. ''If I tested something positive for anything, then someone threw something in the (sample). I think it's because of the way I'm built. I've had people thinking that since I was in high school.'' per rotoworld -
