  5. I was at the game yesterday, didn't get to do the thread but here it is Game Info Date: Saturday, September 10th, 2005 First Pitch: 1:20 pm ET TV: FOX Starting Pitchers: http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/6713.jpghttp://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/TALKSOX/VS.GIFhttp://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/baseball/mlb/players/4267.jpg http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/nyy.gif #39 Sean Chacon (5-9, 3.66) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/mlb/images/team_logos/50x50/bos.gif #38 Curt Schilling (5-7, 6.83) Ace looks to shine in the Bronx Boston (82-58) at New York (79-61), 1:20 p.m. ET The Red Sox will send Curt Schilling to the mound on Saturday, hoping that he will shut down the Yankees in the middle game of a three-game series. Schilling has yet to pitch a quality start in six attempts this season, one of them a loss to the Yankees in his first outing. He allowed nine hits and five runs in 6 2/3 innings during that April 13 game. Entrenched in the rotation again, Schilling is 0-2 with a 7.70 ERA in three starts since returning from the 'pen. But his teammates have seen signs of progress. "He's throwing 95 mph at times, he's throwing more pitches every outing," Johnny Damon said. "He's looking better. By the time the postseason comes around, or even that last series against New York, he should be our No. 1 [starter], or possibly our No. 2." Schilling will continue rounding into form against a Yankees offense he termed as capable as Boston's own. He said that he will have precious little margin for error. The Yankees will counter with Shawn Chacon, who starts for the first time against the Red Sox. Chacon recorded two saves at Boston's expense while playing with the Rockies in 2004. The right-hander has been perhaps the Yankees' best starter since arriving in a trade July 29, taking advantage of what he called "a golden opportunity" at the time. In eight starts with the Yankees, Chacon is 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA. Pitching matchup BOS: RHP Curt Schilling • 5-7, 6.83 ERA in 2005 • 0-2, 8.22 ERA vs. NYY in 2005 NYY: RHP Shawn Chacon • 4-2, 3.08 ERA in 2005 • 0-0, 9.00 ERA vs. BOS in 2004 Season Series • 09/09: Yankees 8, Red Sox 4 • 07/17: Yankees 5, Red Sox 3 • 07/16: Yankees 7, Red Sox 4 • 07/15: Red Sox 17, Yankees 1 • 07/14: Yankees 8, Red Sox 6 • 05/29: Red Sox 7, Yankees 2 • 05/28: Red Sox 17, Yankees 1 • 05/27: Yankees 6, Red Sox 3 • 04/14: Red Sox 8, Yankees 5 • 04/13: Yankees 5, Red Sox 2 • 04/11: Red Sox 8, Yankees 1 • 04/06: Red Sox 7, Yankees 3 • 04/05: Yankees 4, Red Sox 3 • 04/03: Yankees 9, Red Sox 2 Player to watch Alex Cora is the only Boston batter to face Chacon more than 10 times, and he has only three hits in his 14 at-bats. On last week's homestand, Johnny Damon went 12-for-47 with eight runs scored, a home run, a double and 11 RBIs. Quotable "I just want to pitch a good game. I don't care who it is against or when it is. I just want to pitch and contribute. It will definitely be a challenge." -- Curt Schilling, on having yet to pitch a quality start this season Quick hits After walking one batter Friday, David Wells has issued only 15 free passes in 160 2/3 innings this season. ... He has pitched the most innings without walking more than 20 batters in Red Sox history. Jesse Tannehill (20 free passes in 131 innings in 1907) is second.
