    I would put Gagne in for the ninth. Just warm up Papelbon to have him ready in case s*** happens, like you said. But if you can't call for Gagne in this situation, you're not going to find many times for him to pitch.

    He'll be pretty good for them in the coming years if he gets regular playing time. He'd be very good for them in the coming years if he just waived his "no minor league assignment" clause in his contract, and took a year or two to polish his skills.

    Masterson is an elite pitching prospect already? Dye makes us world series favorites. Prospects are questions; banners are there forever. Now, there are some prospects that I wouldn't trade, but Masterson is probably 4-ish years away from being a major league pitcher. He may not even have a spot in the starting rotation when he's ready. If you can trade Masterson and get a world series in return (or a very good shot at one), it's worth it.

    I don't think Ortiz should have stood there as much as he did, but at the same time I think Weaver should just shut his mouth. It's his second year in the league and he should be focusing more on his pitches than on Ortiz's trot around the diamond. If Weaver pegs Ortiz, he'll probably get eaten.

    I'm done defending him too. I don't blame Tito's use of him and Paps today because I too thought Gagne had turned a corner after that Tampa Bay outing. Now, I see that it was just a fluke. He should not get the ball in a close game. Period. Okajima and Papelbon worked before Gagne got here, and it can go on without Gagne interrupting it, thank you very much.

    Thank God that our team is actually a good one that has been healthy and that they have a legitimate chance at winning the world series.
