  1. I think it's worth noting that Damon is hitting better than he was at the same time last year. Not as much of a slow starter this time around, it would seem. Just going on memory, maybe I should actually look up the stats to be sure.
  2. You can't pinch-hit for Crespo because putting in Bellhorn defeats the idea of giving him a day off, and I don't think Ortiz playing middle infield is something that children should be allowed to watch.
  3. I think pinch-hitting Ortiz for Kapler is what turned the tide here. Let McCarty (somewhat hot lately) stay in RF, Ortiz at 1B.
  4. Roger Clemens is still a great player. Roger Clemens is also still a lousy, dishonest human being. It's only my opinion, but just because he screwed the yankees this time doesn't get him off the hook for what he's done in the past.
  5. A few thoughts 1) Foulke likes to work at least semi-regularly. If that's what keeps him happy and efficient, then that's what Tito should be doing. Plus DiNardo and Martinez had been worked alot lately, and Embree could always use a little break. 2) Bellhorn over Pokey when Nomar comes back is becoming more and more obvious as Bellhorn's hitting improves. I believe he's up to .267 now. 3) We did not suck tonight. Enough said.
  6. Now that we've completely departed from reality, I wish every team spent the same amount on payrolls, and that I won the lottery. Seriously, people, renovations have to happen. Deal with it. More seats (and better ones with more room) can only draw more people and more money for the team, which leads to a better product on the field, which is what we should really be thinking about. When I think of Fenway, I think of the wall, the triangle of doom in CF, and Pesky's pole. I really couldn't care less about what the bleachers down the 1st and 3rd base lines look like. And while we're whining about luxury boxes (which will never go away), think about how much those cost, and how much having each and every one of them filled for the entire season makes the team. Even some MINOR LEAGUE parks have some kind of luxury seating for people who are able and willing to pay extreme premiums to watch the games in extreme comfort. As long as they benefit the team, I don't have any problem with them.
  7. Not enough said yet It's early June, and Nomar comes back next week. The sky is not falling. We are not just playing for the Wild Card yet. I know you're thinking it, but we're not. NOW enough has been said.
  8. If this is the year that we shake our interleague jitters, we're still in good shape with Trot and Nomar coming back soon. A slight bright spot for the interleague play is that our natural rivals (the Braves) are missing alot of weapons this year, so we can smack them around a bit. So says I, who shall be at the July 4 game.
  9. My thing with Lowe is that mental issues, however debilitating on the field at any given moment, can work themselves out for reasons that are in no way apparent to those on the outside looking in. At this point, we'd get nothing in return for Lowe - a struggling (below replacement player level right now) pitcher looking for a payday after this season. Who would want to trade anything of value for him right now? I think we're better off holding onto him and seeing if he can straighten himself out. I have some measure of hope that Varitek and Schilling can pull him aside and maybe help this manchild grow up.
  10. Wishing an injury on ANY player on your own team is seriously bad Mojo. I wouldn't wish an injury on Cesar Crespo, that should tell you how strongly I feel about this. Just wish for a line drive off of Roger's face, like I do.
  11. With Pedro and Lowe struggling, this team looks to be increasingly dependent on Kim getting healthy ASAP.
  12. Please, Rich Garces should not be mentioned in the Derek Lowe discussion. It's an insult to "El Guapo."
  13. I believe this is the second straight time that Bellhorn and Youkilis have performed well when set as the #1 and #2 hitters in the lineup. I also believe this is the second straight game where Francona has made a stupid decision to leave his starter in at the start of the 6th inning.
  14. Ok, here's hoping that Pedro skips his usual 1st inning run or two allowed. Old Pedro needs to make an appearance tonight. Nice and warm out there, I hope.
  15. Yes, but the fans voting for Millar are still pretty stupid. You have to be quite the homer to consider Kevin Millar to be an All-Star. I guess I'm one of those odd people who believes that you should vote for who deserves to go, and use favoritism towards the home team only as in cases that can objectively be considered to be close (Delgado vs. Ortiz as an example).
  16. The bad news - Nomar's 1st in the voting at SS The worse news - Jeter's 2nd, while Michael Young rots in 4th. Also, Kevin Millar is 2nd in votes for 1B. That makes me feel ill.
  17. Man, what kind of idiot is a guy who tries to play through a wrist injury at shortstop while it drives down his performance? I refuse to put any hope on a prospect in Single A ball. Talk to me when he starts tearing through AAA.
  18. The Manchild strikes again. Although, to be fair, he should have been pulled the instant the blister was found to be bleeding, but the game was still pretty much lost by then anyway. This was one of those 54 games that you're just going to lose during a 162-game season.
  19. Manny is now alone atop the AL in HRs with 14, and tied for the ML lead with at least 5 guys from the NL.
  20. Not that I'm a Lowe apologist or anything, but with either Nixon or Kapler in RF, the previous ball is caught, and Chavez leads off the next inning. Of course, that's assuming that they would have been positioned the same way as well, but you get the idea.
  21. You mean like Ellis Burks?
  22. Lowe's due for a good start, hopefully it will come tonight. It might be worthwile for the team to go with the optimum defensive setup (Ortiz DH, Millar at 1B, Kapler in RF) just to limit the possibility of a few extra balls falling in on that side of the field, which could upset our favorite man-child on the mound.
  23. Millar is far from useless, as I think we'll see when we can plug him in at first, let Ortiz DH, and put Nixon in RF. Millar's not a bad defensive 1B, and as long as you don't try to play him every day all year (we made that mistake last year), I think he can be a productive guy in the 7 spot. But he has no business batting 3rd, EVER.
  24. If we score 12 runs for Lowe tomorrow, Foulke should be able to get another save.
  25. RBI groundout, then a run scored by....anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
