So if they're actively trying to trade him, if these rumors are true, that must mean that they are committing themselves to Hanley as either he or Renteria playing 3B in the future. That could be great, that could be horrible.
Hanley hasn't played like our top prospect (the way things are going this season, Brandon Moss and Anibal Sanchez could leapfrog him), but he's still an amazing talent with some of the best tools in the minor leagues. If he pulls it all together and plays well, Youk could become expendable. Still, there's always that chances that the man doesn't live up to the hype because he couldn't control the plate at the upper levels and then we waste Youk and have to seek a more expensive replacement.
I'd much rather see Youkilis in 2006 making $300,000-$400,000 than Bill Mueller making $3-$4 million, but that's just me.
