  1. Today marks the debut of the two oldest and newest Red Sox in Curt Schilling and Ellis Burks. Mark it down as the dawn of Boston's new ace. Schilling will show the spoiled brat Pedro how it's done. By the time they get to Fenway, the cheers will ring loudest for Curt, while Pedro will get his comeuppance. His tired prima donna act just won't fly anymore, and if he keeps it up, he just might whine himself out of baseball. Would YOU risk $10-15 million a year for this ? But back to Schilling; he is ready to go, and Boston will hit for him. How can you not love this guy ? In one start, he will remind fans what a dominant stopper looks like. By his second start,(in Boston), they will be on their feet. I took in the Eck's debut in Boston as a young sailor back in '78. Even with less than half full attendance, you could feel the electricity in the air. With a full house, Schilling will thrive on, and feed off of the crowd's energy. This is a match made in heaven, and it couldn't come at a better time. Hum baby !
  2. Howdy folks. Long time Red Sox fan who annually buys into the "This is the year" syndrome. But this time, it just might happen ! (if I had a nickle for every time I said that..........). My nickname is a slight reminder to Yankee fans that are "Living in the Past" when they bring up 1918, past titles won, etc. The time is now, and if not us, who ? Looking forward to the season long debate. Tip of the hat to the forum inventors; nice job, gentlemen ! And since the season starts tonight, for the record I'll predict a Red Sox/Cubs World Series, which the Sox will win in 7 games, naturally. Let the games begin !
  3. What Theo didn't say, but is equally important to the defense is that with the addition of Schilling, Boston has four starters that will likely wind up in the top ten in strikeouts by the end of the season. Less balls in play, coupled with Reese patrolling the infield, a healthy Varitek and Damon, and a full season of Wakefield in the rotation are all pieces to the defensive improvement. Nixon's return is vital. You can juggle for a month, but right field in Fenway is too demanding for subs on a regular basis.
