  1. come on people I spent a lot of time on this I want to hear what you think! respond!
  2. does anyone else thinks this will serve as an excuse to absolutely clean house (read: trade manny, lose johnny, and make several other trades to get younger and mail it in for 06) ???
  3. f*** YES! this is excellent. Dale Sveum f***ing licks taint and I'm so glad the Brewers took him off our hands (though I am located in Wisconsin, grr..) Oh and I remember interviewing DeMarlo for the MANAGERIAL job a couple years ago and him being a great candidate. This is f***ing excellent.
  4. Down With... Wash U!
  5. Why are you guys so sure our starting pitching will improve? I see some of you are positive Papelbon is rotation bound... Then I ask you, whos spot does he or a new SP take? Clement -- a rotation definite. Wakefield -- ditto. Arroyo -- barring something VERY unlikely, he'll be back. He led us in quality starts as well so would Papelbon really be an upgrade anyway? Schill -- c'mon now people, he's gonna start. Wells -- he is under contract and should be in the rotation next year. If he does opt for retirement that might be a spot to plug in Papelbon, but personally I see Papelbon as a downgrade from Wells, our only good SP down the stretch... You can't just say "we need better SP, we just gotta improve it!" It doesn't work like that; it won't work like that. In regards to Timlin likely resigning... there's nobody happier than me about that, BUT, we had Timlin all of this year and had a s***** bullpen so I don't feel the need to do backflips about our pen.
  6. Two thoughts... One I hate to say it, but the more I think about I see the 06 team being a worse version of this year. Our rotation WILL be the same. Our bullpen -- while it couldn't get much worse -- I just don't see improving. A bullpen of Timlin (if he resigns), Foulkie (who isn't good anymore), Papelbon, Myers etc has its potential but has = potential to be like this year. Our hitting should be the same, except with three noticable downgrades, Mueller-->Youks, Johnny-->?? (even if we resign him we're not upgrading) and Bellhorn/Graffy-->Pedroia/??. Whatever upgrade we get from 1B doesn't recoup all the lost offense. Ultimately I can't see this team being ANY better than what we got this year and probably a lot worse. My other thought... can we just make Millar our bench coach?
  7. It's not just a rumor. It's the REAL deal. The minor leaguers actually do suck though. We can't give up on Stern yet, he's a beast. And plus if we package Lastings Milledge and him we can get DUNN...OKAY!
  8. Jacoby's birthday is September 11...bad luck, no?
  9. Kenny Perez and Kyle Bono
  10. Sportscenter said we just got him for 2 minor leaguers. i have no clue which ones, but i hope they weren't good because Cruz sucks. What do we have like 4 backup OFs now?? Oh and by the way...poor poor Adam Hyzdu.
  11. Okay here we go... Rotation: Pedro (13) Schill (12.75) Pavano (10) Wake (4.34) Cornroyo (0.3) Bullpen: Foulke (6) Timlin (2.75) Embree (3) Mantei (0.7) Myers (0.7) Kline (2.5) Malaska/Traber (0.3) Hitting: C: Varitek (9) / Mirabelli (2.93) 1b: Millar (2.93) / McCarty (0.7) 2b: Bellhorn (2) ss: Pokey Reese/Desi Relaford/Barry Larkin/Mark Grudzalieniek (choose 2, one for ss one to back up, 3 mill between the two of them) 3b: Mueller (2.5) of: Manny (20) of: Johnny (7.75) of: Trot (6.5) / Roberts (1) dh: Ortiz (6.25) NOTE: Youkilis plays a final year in AAA 1. Must trade BK Kim and Doug Minky for anything we can get as long as we don't pay the salary. This totals approximately $120 million. That is $10 million shy of the threshhold. This money will be used to pay for any incentives gained, insurance, and the other expenses. It also leaves just enough room to add a bit of salary at the trade dealine if Theo sees fit. I think this is a perfectly realistic and more importantly, succesful scenario. Our rotation improves. Our bullpen would be dirty. While our offense would decline, I'd say we could afford to do this. I don't wanna get into the whole Minky/Millar thing, persoanlly I'd prefer to dump Minky for various reasons. To me Dave McCarty can fulfill the exact same job for a lot cheaper. That said, rip this to shreads with even the nitpickiest criticisms you have... Also, is anyone else surprised the Stankees didn't make a run at Jeff Kent?
  12. i agree with yeszir. i heard schill on radio this morning. he said he regretted doing it when he did it becuase he felt he retracted from what he had done. basically realizes raging liberals like us are unhappy (except for you dortiz4pres--you donkey)
  13. oh god that is funny
  14. please tell me what queer voted for sheff and arod.
  15. can someone please explain to me why baseball teams draft high school kids that they know will be choosing college over the longshot odds of the minor leagues? (a la Nick Franconca)
  16. Scott Boras is a complete tool and he is finally beginning to pay for it. As John Kruk said, "I thought agents are supposed to gain money for their clients." Boras has now become so synonymous with overpriced contracts that the likes of Jered Weaver and Stephen Drew are falling this far in the draft. It is now costing them money. Teams like the Padres and Rangers are vowing never to sign another Boras player. This guy deserves what is coming to him--he's even worse than Drew Rosenhaus (if you remember the Willis McGahee cell phone call during draft?)
  17. Just saw on ESPNEWS that he agreed to a two year extension!!! Anyone know any details?
  18. Theo needs to do this deal. If our only problem is money, it isn't. JD is costing us 7.75 and BK is 5. While Belt is 6 that leads to a savings of 6.75 for this year alone. Concerning his following contract, this would give us the inside track on signing him. Vladi signed for 14 with Anaheim so I can't imagine him going anywhere above that. In the grand scheme we would be adding to the payroll, but Belt is BEASTMODE and we also get a prospect too.
  19. i heard that when the DVD comes out there will be multiple endings. you can choose for the red sox to win at the end.
  20. i hate nesn sooo much...WHERES THE GAME?!
  21. mark shapiro knows what he is doing. damn. they are stacked prospect wise. just look at that future outfield. this will be the team to beat in 07. how did he get Travis Hafner for Einar Diaz!? Damn, let's just trade them Williamson for their AAA team.
  22. Guardians get minor league OF Franklin Gutierrez and a PTBNL. Good move for DePodesta but won't move them out of fourth.
  23. according to jayson starke on espn, over the last two years the big three with the 2nd highest winning % is oakland's hudson-zito-mulder with a ridiculous .667 %. the 1st best is out pedro-schill-lowe with an AMAZING .725% (!). That said, if you assume 97 games started by the big 3 (3/5 of games) then .725% is 70 Ws. Wakefield and KimRoyo can EASILY have a .570% giving them 37/65 wins. 70+37=107. Since we know these startes obviously wont start all 162 games, and there will be injuries and brainfarts and such, I say you subtract 7 wins, giving the Sox a season total of 100 Wins.
