  1. I think Grudzielanek would be a great idea. I think we can sign him cheaply and he produced last year for the Cards to the tune of a .294 batting average and played great defense at second base. I think we should sign him to a one or two year deal, throw him in at second until Dustin is ready, and then keep as an excellent utility player. I would also not mind seeing Graffanino again, he really played great baseball for the Sox last season. He will in no way match his production from last year, but he is another solid, cheap, and versatile option to fill the void until Pedroia is ready. I think it is important not to throw Pedroia in too early, because we really might have something in this kid and it would be a shame to see him not develop.
  2. Just like Pedro was the best pitcher we've ever had (except maybe Clemens, but Pedro in his prime was better than Rocket was with us), Manny is the best hitter we've had in recent memory, probably since Ted Williams (the best hitter of all time). We lost Pedro last offseason and our pitching struggled mightily; it was our biggest weakness. Now if we go right ahead and get rid of Manny (granted, we will be getting something for Manny unlike losing Pedro to free agency), I think our offense will struggle as well. Can Ortiz carry an offense without the help from another slugger? I hope so, but I'm not sure. If we do in fact get good value for Manny (Adam Dunn, for example), it won't be as big of a deal, and in fact could be beneficial, but I would still love to see Manny in Boston again. If that can't work, I just hope we don't just throw him to some team but get good value for Manny, one of the best hitters of all time.
  3. I think Delcarmen will start in the bullpen and if not will be in the callups list. Great work otherwise though.
  4. Excellent, excellent game. Clement has exceeded even my expectations so far this season. Manny is really starting to heat up, as is Ortiz. It's nice to be in first again.
  5. He seems like the kinda guy that will help us further along in the season. Tough start though.
  6. Welcome to TalkSox, hope you enjoy yourself.
  7. I've always been a Millar fan, so for sentimental reasons I would like to see him start playing good baseball (last night was on the right track). Olerud, however, plays much better defense, and is a good, solid hitter who could end up having a comeback season. Time will tell which one will get the bulk of the playing time.
  8. It must be a very frusterating year for Wells. He struggles early and just as he starts to pitch lights out baseball, he hearts himself and now he's back where he started. So far tonight he hasn't been great, but he hasn't been aweful either. I think he will eventually make his way back to the way he had been pitching before the injury, even if it takes some time. Now lets score some runs and get him off the hook.
  9. I expect a great performance from Clement, as has been his style as of late. Zito, although he hasn't pitched that well this season so far, is still a quality pitcher and this will be a close game. Expect, like 4-3 or 3-2 Sox.
  10. One of the most frusterating types of games in baseball is games when your team plays very well, except for one inning. Today, the Sox outplayed the Mariners 8 of 9 innings, but the four runs in the second really hurt. Except for that one inning, Wake pitched another great game. It's always frusterating when this happens.
  11. I know he's struggled recently, but I still think he is one of the premiere closers in the game today. He was one of the major reasons we won it all last year, and will be a main reason we contend for it this year.
  12. Despite the loss, today was a great sign of things to come from Wade. I thought he was very impressive, especially for his first start against major league players this year (mind you he didn't pitch in MLB Spring Training). Even with our supposed top 2 (Schill, Wells) out, I think we have excellent starting pitching.
  13. Crazy as it sounds, this might not be a bad thing.
  14. Not the cleanest victor the Sox will have this season, but quite a satisfying one. Nice to see the Sox finally win a series in Texas, even if Foulke did struggle again.
  15. Good start so far, Bronson pitching well as usual.
  16. I can not see Chen giving up less than 5 runs tonight. He throws garbage, and we mash garbage.
  17. I was at the game, it was very entertaining. While not the best fielded and pitched game by the Sox, we really lit it up. I have to say Manny's first homerun was one of the farthest balls I have ever seen hit in person.
  18. I have no doubt that we will be able to get to Kazmir. He pitched well against us last year, but there is no reason to believe that he can keep it up against an even better lineup this year. I see Wakefield taking it to the young and undisciplined DRays.
  19. Clement was very impressive tonight. It's great to see our new pitchers doing as well as they should be recently.
  20. Great first inning for Schill, and Sox are threatening. Come on Millar!
  21. Ehh, feck. Hudson continues his great day, drives in Reed Johnson to win the game. Shaky defense by Bellhorn cost us here.
  22. I can honestly say that I had faith that Edgar would come through for us. This is the second of a bunch of big hits he will have this season for us.
  23. One thing we've learned from last year's team was that this team might have a bad game, but they almost always bounce back. I look for a great pitching performance by Clement to erase the memory of yesterday's bad performance by wells.
  24. I'm not too worried. Boomer's not our ace, and we always suck opening day.
  25. Something that was just brough up during the telecast: Both David Wells and Randy Johnson have thrown perfect games. I wonder if this is the first time in MLB history that two opposing pitchers have pitched perfect games. I would think so, but you never know. I guess I have to do some research...
