About My First Trip to Boston

So I just returned from my first trip to Boston for the weekend and thus, witnessed my first live Sox game ever and since I know a lot of you here are from the Boston area, I figured you'd like to read about my experience.

 

First off, you guys have a beautiful city, I found it to be a lot like Montreal, where I'm from. Although the city seems like it's one big construction site, everything is nicely within walking distance and the people are very friendly. I didn't have time to check out much but we pretty much hung around the Quincy Market and Washington St. stores during the day.

 

At night, we went to Hooters and then watched the game at The Four's since Sports Illustrated said they were the #1 sports bar in America. I loved it, the memorabilia was awesome and it was a very fun place to have a few drinks and watch several games.

 

Then came today and my first Red Sox game and trip to Fenway Park and I've gotta say, I have memories from this day that will stay with me the rest of my life and I write this now as a bigger Red Sox fan than I was before I left. You read about the passion of the fans and the atmosphere at the park and on Yawkey Way but nothing prepared me for my experience today. It was absolutely everything I ever imagined it could be and more.

 

I went onto the site right as the gates opened and hung around Yawkey Way for about half an hour just soaking everything in. Then we went inside the park and checked out the Sox pitching staff doing long toss and the Orioles BP. I ended up getting Youk's autograph on my program which was a huge thrill. We walked around the park seeing how it looked from every area from behind home plate to the Green Monster seats. Our seats were in the bleachers which probably wasn't the best place to see the game but it was an awesome place to appreciate the atmosphere of being in the heart of Red Sox Nation and being around 35,000 people. Everything was just like I thought it could be right now to the guy yelling at Manny for not hussling enough. Wells pitched great, Sox allowed 1 run for the first time since god knows when and we got our fair share of moments that brought us to our feet.

 

So in closing, I want to thank your city for an incredible weekend that won't be my last but that I won't forget. You have a lot to be thankful for.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. As you noted the Boston people are not all cold snobs. We treat people like we'd like to be treated. I'm sure you'll have as much fun, or more, on your next trip. I haven't been to Montreal, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

yeah I go to boston a lot now and I've noticed how nice people are there, also. It's really a great thing... Also... going to Fenway does a lot to feed the Red Sox fandom... I wouldn't be as big a fan as I am if I had never been to Fenway. I even dragged my friend (who's a Yankee fan) to a game last week and I was expecting her to not enjoy it at all (long story as to why we were there in the first place, I wasn't trying to torture her or anything haha) but even she had to admit that Fenway has a great atmosphere.

Congrats on your first trip to Boston BoSox, it's nice to hear of the wonderful time you had!! I'm a pretty frequent visitor to Montreal as that is one of my favorite cities and you're right when you say they both do have alot in common.

 

I would compare Sox fans to the fans of the Habs. Both incredibly knowledgeable as well as passionate about their teams. I went to game 6 of the hockey playoffs in 2004 at the Bell Centre and the difference in seeing a Bruins game and a Habs game live is amazing!

 

Anyway, glad you had a nice time here in Beantown.

Fenway is great, definitely one of the best parks in all of sports; I've been to a few games there and have always had a great time.

I've been boston probably 300 or 400 times and rarely do I not have a good time.

yea, me and my buddy were talking about the Sox fanbase and the Habs fanbase. Both are very similar in terms of knowledge, passion, scrutiny from the media, etc. but I've never seen anything like all the Red Sox caps, jerseys and t-shirts that I saw walking around downtown Boston
