  1. The Blue Jays are only one game behind the Yankees and the Yankees are only a few games out of the wild card.
  2. It is amazing what the Dodgers gave up in the Scherzer/Turner trade: Ruiz and Gray, arguably the Dodgers two top prospects. They paid a big price, nice work by the Nats getting so much in return.
  3. Mets have been quiet. So have the Giants.
  4. There is talk that the Rays might acquire Kimbrel and Bryant. That would suck. The Rays have the prospects to get it done.
  5. The two best starting pitchers are now off the market--Scherzer and Berrios. The rest of the trade market starting pitchers aren't a major upgrade over what the Red Sox already have.
  6. Berrios to the Blue Jays is bad news for the Yankees and their wild card dreams.
  7. Geez, I just read that the Dodgers are the favorites to land Craig Kimbrel. I guess no one will beat the Dodgers this year?
  8. Yep, Berrios to the Blue Jays. They probably gave up some really good prospects.
  9. Not good on Kyle Gibson: Since Berrios probably ends up elsewhere--the Padres, Blue Jays, or Rays--the Red Sox should focus on acquiring a relief pitcher IMO.
  10. There were reports that the Yankees were trying to acquire Schwarber and so maybe the Red Sox outbid them? A.Ramirez is a pretty solid pitching prospect and what did the Yankees give up for Rizzo? An older pitcher who is probably a bullpen arm and an interesting lottery ticket in Alacantara. To obtain Kyle S. the Yankees needed to go higher than that and Cashman has a history of prospect hugging.
  11. That's the million dollar question--is Kyle Gibson for real or not? If the Red Sox believe he is for real, I can understanding wanting to trade for him. I'll take Gibson over Jon Gray. I'm not sold on Gibson but I think there is a chance that he has evolved into a better pitcher and that he will continue to perform at a pretty high level.
  12. I was thinking that the Red Sox might trade for a starting 1b, and play Kyle S. in LF, and, yes, use Duran as the 4th outfielder the rest of the way. It is quite possible that is the plan, but to see evidence of that plan we would need to see the Red Sox obtain a starting 1b today. If they don't obtain a starting 1b, we can safely assume Kyle S. will play the position and Duran will continue to play in CF. I think Duran continues to play and that Kyle S. was acquired for 1b. The key point here is that by upgrading the offense at 1b, the Red Sox can simply drop Duran down to the ninth spot, they don't need him in that second spot anymore. Duran may struggle but he can survive as the ninth hitter. Even though he is struggling, he can help you with his amazing speed, and he has proven that so far. Thus, I think the Red Sox will keep playing Duran but they will bat him ninth and the acquisition of Kyle S. allows the Red Sox to move Duran down the order.
  13. Call me crazy but I would rather protect K.Crawford on the 40 man than Cordero or Dalbec. And if I were running a team and making a trade with the Red Sox, I would be more interested in acquiring K.Crawford over Cordero or Dalbec. I would also prefer A.Scherff over Cordero and Dalbec. I just don't like the hit tools of Cordero and Dalbec. And Cordero doesn't play quality defense anywhere. Dalbec is a little more interesting because he can play 3b, but I don't want his pathetic hit tool on my roster.
  14. Jon Morosi reports (1 hr ago) that the Red Sox have talked to the Rangers about Kyle Gibson:
  15. Correction: Mayer Papi Boggs Yaz Teddy In a few years, M.Mayer will turn into every Yankees fan worst nightmare. Can't wait.
  16. But isn't there only a month left in the minor league season? He can get some work in at AAA, but a limited amount. And then the Red Sox face a 40 man roster crunch and Dalbec probably shouldn't be on it.
  17. Perhaps because neither player is worth a 40 man roster spot in the offseason.
  18. He is getting old. I think the money is better spent on a younger Kyle S.
  19. I'm really hoping that one of the following two will be traded today: Cordero or Dalbec. With the acquisition of Kyle S., Cordero's LHB isn't needed. Dalbec is a more useful player, since he can also play 3b, but he will need to retool his hitting in the minors at this point. Then again, maybe players like Cordero and Dalbec aren't the kinds of players who get traded......
  20. According to a report, Jesus Aguilar is not expected to be traded. No news on J.Schoop. Maybe the Red Sox do plan on playing Kyle S. at 1b. The Red Sox must know that their infield defense stinks. Maybe they don't care or believe it matters? Some say with all the shifting going on, infield defense is less important than ever. The days of Ozzie Smith are long gone. Looking ahead to the offseason, hopefully JD Martinez opts out and the Red Sox resign Kyle S. That would be ideal. If JD doesn't opt out, the Red Sox could shave a little off his 20 million one year contract and trade him.
  21. I'm assuming Schwarber will be the Red Sox's starting 1b, but it'll be interesting to see if the Red Sox have plans to trade for a starting 1b on Friday with the intention of starting Schwarber in LF against RHP. If the Red Sox don't trade for a 1b on Friday, then it will be clear that Schwarber is that guy.
  22. Based on what I'm reading, I think Jose Berrios ends up with the Padres or the Blue Jays. I don't believe the Red Sox's package will be good enough. Accordingly, the Red Sox need to pivot to acquiring a relief pitcher and hope that Houck and Whitlock together can perform as a dominant starter in the postseason. Postseason rotation: 1. Sale 2. Eovaldi 3. Houck followed by Whitlock 4. E-Rod In this scenario, Whitlock can't be used as a regular bullpen arm. Instead, he will be scheduled to pitch whenever Houck pitches, and will not be used until then. Kimbrel would be an ideal candidate to replace Whitlock's role in the pen.
  23. If the Dodgers acquire Turner, what happens to Seager? I know Seager was injured but I thought he was on the way back? Also, Seager is a free agent after the season, could the Dodgers be cutting ties with him?
  24. Agreed. If the Red Sox can't get Berrios or Scherzer, I would go after a bullpen upgrade. The Dodgers acquired Danny Duffy for a player to be named later. I guess that means no one wanted Duffy? I don't know but Duffy is injured and that probably mitigated interest.
  25. Just seeing your post now -- beat me to it.
