  1. That's the easiest assist Beni will ever get. What a STUPID decision to run on that ball!
  2. ...but like I said, I don't claim to be a hitting instructor.
  3. There's a lot of that going on when a player is in a slump. What it does is takes all the pressure off to get a hit and lets the player concentrate on making solid contact. I'm thinking that if making contact is all JBJ had to worry about he might make a few (more) outs but at least he'd be developing the habit of hitting the ball... which is something he's not good at now. Once you start making solid contact the hits will follow.
  4. Then we shouldn't act like him here.
  5. This is starting to remind me of our old pal Pumpsie Greene. He used to almost hope a Red Sox player would fail so he could post about how bad that player is and how right Pumpsie was.
  6. ...and it's like the Red Sox think you're right, so they won't part with him.
  7. Ya. I can remember thinking that God had finally constructed the perfect body and he gave it to Nomar. I understand the temptation to use the PED's. My son had a gifted baseball player in his HS class who bulked up over a season. I didn't think much about it back then but now I wonder....
  8. Keeping in mind that I don't pretend to be a hitting instructor... when I was coaching (or in a slump myself) I used to believe that the best way to get out of a slump is to hit your way out of it. Don't get fancy, just try to hit the ball HARD, SOMEPLACE. Maybe it was coincidence, but it worked.
  9. If you keep this up I'm going to reserve the right to be a douche toward you when JBJ catches fire. And he will.
  10. That's a +. If we can't have Jerry.
  11. There are a lot of runs in the top 4 of that order.
  12. I'm envious. I've got the itch to get to Fenway recently. Gotta do something about that!
  13. I'd like to lock JDM and JBJ together in a room and make them stay there until JBJ 'gets it'.
  14. I have to admit it.. I didn't know how good JD Maratinez is until I saw him play this year.
  15. He got started up here in Maine many years ago. To be fair I haven't heard him (much) in some time. The thing he became famous for locally was his name-dropping. "I was talking with 'Xxx Xxxxx' last night and he said..... "
  16. Aw, you poor bastard. Do you have to listen to Gary Thorne? Nobody deserves that. :-(
  17. Naw. Slash started it a few days ago. I just thought it was too good not to be perpetuated. :-)
  18. It wasn't original. Credit Slasher.
  19. Nice inning there, Mr. T.. Keep doing what you're doing!
  20. Let's hope Mr. Tingles is over his tingles tonight. Regardless of their record some of the O's can hit.
  21. Two things come to mind when I hear that. I can remember the pic of a shirtless Nomar on the cover of SI - and he was friggin' RIPPED - and an entire article about his workout regimen. The other thing I remember is that after that appeared there was some speculation about PED usage and Curt Schilling said that he was certain that Nomar didn't get that way by using PED's. Not that I believe him now, but that's what he said.
  22. I'm uncertain as to whether to blame the media or the fans for it. The whole story took on a life of its own after the day when Jeter made the leaping dive into the stands for a foul ball and the camera showed what appeared to be a sulking Nomar in the Sox dugout. And to make the situation even worse it was on national TV. The fans are complicit in it too as they (we?) have an unquenchable thirst for any information about the Sox players, almost including the color and the consistency of that morning's bowel movement so the fans can draw their own conclusions as to what it means.
  23. I prefer to use the phrase "He lacks baseball IQ".
  24. That is true, and it's the reason he's stuck in purgatory. If he were making the ML minimum (or any semi-reasonable amount) he'd either be called up or traded by now.
