  1. Fine. But if you're going to post part of a conversation that happened yesterday at least post it accurately. To suggest that it was said that it was smart to strike out in that situation is disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst.
  2. Now let's talk about what you posted in this thread: Let's hear again from the advocates who believe that, with men on 1b and 3b with 1 out, the smart play by Manny was to strike out. The rally would still be alive if he had played it smart. And, yes, that was said on a game thread the other night. There were no "advocates"who believe that striking out in that situation is the "Smart" thing to do. What was implied was that striking out would be better than hitting into a double play. And I'd stand by that.
  3. Oh for Chrissake! NOBODY said it was the smart thing to do. What was said was that a K is better than the DP.
  4. Limiting to defense I think it's hard to say. IMO Mookie covers more ground out there than Dewey did but Evans has/had a better arm. On a day-to-day basis (and leaving offense out of the equation) I think I'd take Mookie. A fielder had more chances to run down a ball than to showcase his arm. But either of them is fine with me.
  5. So he's #4/5 in the Fielding Bible - usually accepted as the Gold Standard for fielding - and middle of the pack statistically. When people who rate defense for a living can't agree on how good JBJ is how can mere underlings like us have any faith in defensive ratings?
  6. That's a totally unfair comparison. A lot of that has to do with who Blair was competing against for the award vs who JBJ is competing against.
  7. That HR aside, this is still a much better outing than I'd feared from Mr. Tingles.
  8. Crap. One out away from the shutout. Ugh
  9. Yep. I agree. I just thought we were listing all the things Mookie is better than anyone else at.
  10. When it came time for JDM to hit he was "on the can" so they sent Swi up to PH for him. Ok.. I made that part up.
  11. Stomach problems. Possibly something he ate?
  12. I hope you and Alex aren't arguing with the statistics.
  13. Ya, but if a kid was drowning, JBJ walked on the water to save the kid you'd say that JBJ can't swim. I know.. it's an old joke, but appropriate.
  14. It was. It looked like something Bradley would do.
  15. Yeah! Ain't it great?? That f***er has taken so many backhanded swipes at the Red Sox that I don't care if he gets raped by a group of homeless people and left for dead. f*** him. Figuratively speaking, of course.
  16. That was classic. Showalter got to the mound before XBo got to the plate!
  17. I don't know, but any day Buck Showalter loses a game is a good day!
  18. Not only do the Sox have 5 SB's there hasn't been a throw to 2B! Amazing
  19. Is it me, or are the wheels starting to come off for Baltimore now?
  20. I'm a big JBJ fan, but... how do you walk a guy who's hitting 9th and batting .170??
  21. Beni has a good enough arm, and when opposing runners try to run on balls hit off that wall they're sitting ducks. That ball was there and waiting for Valencia!
