  1. Yup. Arozarena already made a terrific grab in right center. Outfielders dread what George C. Scott said he dreaded in the movie Patton: a bullet headed right for his nose. In this case, it was a line drive right at Arozarena with too much green between him and the fence/wall. Thinking about it, I'm inclined to say Fenway overall just might have the nastiest outfield in MLB because CF is also no walk in the park.
  2. The catch by Cordero was/is a rarity. Most outfielders insist on a minimum safe distance when playing near the Green Monster.
  3. Agree. Napoleon did in fact say that he would rather have a lucky general/marshall than a brilliant one. Cora does seem to have that touch that gives a team confidence, and this year he seems to be going to the mound more often than in seasons past. I was mad when he left Andriese in too long in the 11-2 win, but last night thought the pitching was brilliant and, going against Glasnow, much needed. Perez surprised with a decent start and 5 innings, and the bullpen went 7 giving up 0 earned runs.
  4. Stunning. See ya for game 3.
  5. 1.5 innings, Glasnow looks incredible but gave up a run, and poor Perez has 2 shutout innings. Pigs can fly, and the Sox have a shot at another win. Oh, and I'm getting this cotton-pickin game on mlb.com, and it's alive!!!!!!
  6. Write up somewhere says the Sox hit him last year.
  7. One more time. These very early stats suggest that not walking batters might be the most important stat for pitching stats-- Mets, 3 walks (best in MLB), ERA 2.25 Twins, 7 walks (2d best), ERA 2.00 Yankees, 9 walks (3d best), ERA 1.70 Phillies, 11 walks (tied for 4th best), ERA 1.46 Braves, 11 walks (tied for 4th best), ERA 2.81 Padres, 11 walks (tied for 4th best), ERA 2.20. And here's the five MLB teams pitching staffs with the most BB's given up-- Angels, 21 walks, ERA 5.00 Rockies, 23 walks, ERA 5.75 Diamondbacks, 23 walks, ERA 4.91 Tigers, 24 walks, ERA 6.75 A's, 25 walks, ERA 8.60
  8. Team pitching staff K's vs. team ERA to date: White Sox, 53 K's (most in MLB), ERA 3.61. Angels, 52 K's, ERA 5.00 Padres, 51 K's, ERA 2.20 Phillies, 46 K's, ERA 1.46 Pirates, 45 K's, ERA 4.36 Reds, 44 K's, ERA 4.50 Brewers, 43 K's ERA 4.75 Jays, 43 K's, ERA 2.50 Twins, 42 K's, ERA 2.00 Yankees, 42 K's, ERA 1.70 Red Sox, 41 K's, ERA 4.50 I'm satisfied that moonslav is right to caution against K's. Interesting about the dingers, however. The Sox have given up none. As for walks, right now I'd have to say that walks are more damaging than dingers and avoiding them is more valuable than getting K's-- Mets, 3 walks (best in MLB), ERA 2.25 Twins, 7 walks (2d best), ERA 2.00 Yankees, 9 walks (3d best), ERA 1.70 Phillies, 11 walks (tied for 4th best), ERA 1.46 Braves, 11 walks (tied for 4th best), ERA 2.81 Padres, 11 walks (tied for 4th best), ERA 2.20.
  9. 1 or 2, true. It seemed like no outs, and it sure seemed to be the beginning of a deluge until Hernandez got that K followed by Ottavino getting a K for out 3. It was 7-2 Sox with Tampa having the bases full with one out when Adames struck out for out 2. Alternatively, a soft pop dropping in or a grounder with eyes could have made it 7-3 (or 7-4) with 1 out and 2 or 3 on base.
  10. I like that first sentence and was about to say something similar. That said, however, I think the cold weather in those games helped pitchers on both sides because the hitters looked like they were playing at Ice Station Zebra. On the other hand, Sox pitchers did well last night with the temp in the 50's.
  11. Actually, he was really, really mad--at both the Sox and MLB with their blackout restrictions. I see no further need for this thread. Last night's win was most encouraging. Maybe the Sox hitters needed warmer weather.
  12. We, my friend, are in the twilight zone where confusion reigns--or rains, take your pick. Besides, I tried and tried to change the doggone date yesterday after moonslav and everyone else pointed out the error--but could not.
  13. I didn't say it on the game thread, but I thought Cora was an idiot for not pulling Andriese sooner. I thought leaving him in for the 7th was fine with that lead, but staying with him in the 8th so that he could load the bases with no one out was foolhardy. Cora was lucky. Of course, Napoleon really did say the would rather have a lucky general under his command than a smart one. Maybe luck is the residue of design.
  14. Rod Serling says keep it up!
  15. Sheer eloquence from one of the best legal minds on this board.
  16. Some command issues, but a good outing by Pivetta and a chance for a W.
  17. Pivetta has a pretty good assortment of pitches.
  18. Wacha getting more calls on the corners than Pivetta. Kind of understandable.
  19. Terrible, rotten, stinking, lousy, horrible mojo and form. And completely compatible with the Sox hitting, pitching, defense, etc to date. I also can't edit the title.
  20. Game’s on espn!
