  1. Is there anyone who thinks the Sox would have 78 w's and be up 8 1/2 games on the Yankees at this time if Farrell was still managing? Credit Dombrowski for not only the masterful job he has down in choreographing the roster but also in bringing on board Cora to serve as maestro. I'm impressed!
  2. Perhaps you missed it but Cora was in the clubhouse after being ejected following Severino's very first pitch in the 1st inning.
  3. Red Sox vs. Yankees game concluded in 2 1/2 hrs., unheard of!
  4. Exactly, unless of course he's traded before season's end!
  5. Betts would definitely be a better 2B than Joe Cronin in as much as Joe never played 2B. Cronin was traded from the Senators to the Sox in 1935, as player-manager. He retired as a player in 1945, but remained manager of the Red Sox until 1947. During his playing days with the Sox he was a SS. And a HOF'er at that!
  6. O.K., so here's a hypothetical, and I'm not suggesting a Wally Pipp scenario. Let's say Cora leaves Swihart, who I've been touting for the past month or so, in at 3B for the next 10 days and he catches on fire at the plate and mans 3B adequately during that span. When Devers comes off the DL, what do you do with Blake? Does he remain at 3B or, here's an interesting thought. Although he's purportedly the back up catcher, he did alright when they tried him in LF, likewise at 1B, and now 3B. So how about giving him a shot at 2B which keeps his bat in the starting lineup, while at the same time puts Holt and Nunez back on the bench as utility players which they were initially earmarked for?
  7. Things are certainly going well for DD. Pearce acquisition, Eovaldi acquisition, and Swihart success at 3B. Now if Dave could just find a decent tailor and get rid of that atrocious checkered sports jacket!
  8. No sooner did I post the previous tongue-in-cheek thought, than my man Blake makes an outstanding play at the hot corner and starts a double play! And so far he's 2 for 2 at the plate. Way to go Blake!
  9. I don't even have a cell phone, and if I did I don't even know how to tweet!
  10. Finally, someone paying attention to my prescient managerial observations!
  11. It would appear that Devers pulled a hamstring heading into 3rd tonight otherwise he would have probably scored. Tough break for Devers as he's been hitting really well of late. If it means another visit to the DL, I would like to reiterate my position that Swihart be given consideration to fill in at 3B. If he's successful, he adds a tremendous amount of flexibility to the Sox lineup, while boosting his resume and trade value.
  12. I seem to recall that the Sox have always been impressed with Swihart's bat in that he has hit well at every level throughout his minor league career right up until he sustained his injury coming in contact with the wall along Fenway's foul line in left field. The hope is that he can resume the proficiency at the plate that he has displayed throughout his career. Personally, I believe he will. I can envision him hitting in the .275 range and becoming a force in the bottom 3rd of the lineup that to date has been woesome.
  13. If the Sox were to play Swihart at another position and he was needed as the backup catcher during the game, Cora could always do a double switch, ala National League, for instance by pinch hitting for Leon and switching Swihart from 3B to catcher while inserting the pinch hitter to 3B. Or if Leon were injured in a game, heaven forbid, a similar switch in positions could be made. But as you have pointed out, with Devers coming off the DL, my machinations with the roster are not yet necessary. However, it's not beyond the realm of plausibility that this roster experiment might be kept on the back burner in the event that further injuries keep mounting as the season winds down.
  14. With Brock at 2B day-to-day (sic) and Nunez 3B dinged up from the rundown play at the plate, did I read somewhere that Swihart, along with being a potential fill-in in LF, has played some 3B? After watching J.D. make some nice catches in RF tonight, particularly the catch he made running face first into the wall, it got me to thinking. After this weekend, the Sox play 3 games against the cellar-dweller Orioles who are having a fire sale and no one knows who they'll have available on the field. Now might be the ideal time for a bit of a shakeup to give those dinged up a chance to fully recover. And against the lowly Orioles, what could possibly go wrong? Betts 2B Benintendi LF Martinez RF Pearce DH Moreland 1B Bogaerts SS Swihart 3B Leon C Bradley CF
  15. While waiting for the MLB All Star extravaganza to conclude, that we might be able to get back to serious baseball on Friday night, to firm up the lineup while awaiting the 'laser show' to recover and resume his stellar play at 2B, how about putting Mookie back at 2B, his original position, and leave J.D. in LF, Benny in CF, and J.B.J. in RF? Then, of course, Moreland and Pearce, could rotate at 1B per lefty righty situation, and odd-man-out at DH, or where called for Swihart at DH.
  16. Mal you're too modest! I prepared for a recent trip by downloading Lost in Burma on my tablet, via Barnes & Noble, and on my flight I was enthralled by your tales. Particularly the one about the Irish priest. And to the other forum old guys like me, I heartily recommend this book for your reading list.
  17. Guerin looked absolutely lovely in that purple dress tonight.
  18. A lot depends on the last three games of the season against the Yankees. Per the standings, how many of the final three will the Sox have to win to secure the title and/or how many wins of the three to create a tie. This synopsis will create an intriguing strategy as to the pitching rotation for both teams just to complete the regular 162-game season. Then if there is a tie, how the respective managers used their respective starters for those final three games will contribute mightily to who they send to the mound for the tie-breaker.
  19. Nationals outfielder trying to catch up to Porcello's bases-clearing double in the 2nd inning. From memory, can only be described as half way between foreplay and orgasm!
  20. There will never be another Curt Gowdy! That's all I've got to say on the matter. Good day to you all.
  21. Just passing the time-of-day waiting for the Sox to take on the Spankees tonight! Back in the 50's when I was still in high school, baseball umpires went to work as if they were going to a formal business meeting. The outfit included a black sports jacket, a white shirt, a dark tie and dark pants. The jacket and pants were made of wool, and the clothing requirements never changed despite the temperature. 1959 Vic Delmore For those Sox fans, other than Joseph Abboud, who are interested in fashion, specifically umpires attire, you'll find this site of particular interest: https://www.livestrong.com/article/406116-baseball-umpire-uniform-history/
  22. It's been 2 months and Sale is still not getting run support by the Sox offense that is leading the league in most offensive categories. But still can't manage to give Sale some run support!
  23. Any explanation for 3 in the broadcast booth with both Remdog and Eck doing color?
  24. "Dont think I'd mind Scooter in Boston." Scooter ???????
