  1. Correct. Offense might not sight the world alight as is, but it's solid. As is, the Sox won't lose games because of a lack of offense, they'll lose because of a severe lack of pitching.
  2. This. They've got so much money tied up in toxic contracts and injured/unmovable players I doubt they'll have the flexibility to sign Ells to the large $ multiyear deal he's after
  3. Welcome Shane. One of us now, regardless of whether you think we overpaid. Has his strengths, has his weaknesses. Hopefully he can be a better clubhouse presence than previous guys...
  4. Is the money everyone's biggest issue? Because the guy stole a career high 39 bases (7th in the Major Leagues) and is pretty good defensively (3 time Golden Glove winner). Admittedly he had a career low BA last season, I believe around .250...
  5. Swisher. Because Hamilton is too pricey, and Swisher is a better all-round player than Ross or Victorino. I do like Cody though, and in a perfect world we'd sign him AND Swisher AND get some good pitching in....
  6. Granderson and Rivera I get. Both seem like model pros and decent guys. I'm willing to be convinced Swisher deserves my respect (if he joins). Texeira ... no comment.
  7. Would we be too hamstrung financially to go after any decent pitching though? Perhaps that's what he's getting at; that we'd have signed quality players but ignored a glaring weakness?
  8. It's funny, because I'm sure we all hated Swisher so much a very short time ago. Just the sight of his face used to annoy me.
  9. Yikes it was indeed. Just fixed it, haven't been on here in a while! On Swisher vs. Ross, are they asking for similar money? I really like Cody but I know who I'd prefer for similar $$
  10. Ideally we'd sign him to a similar (slightly lower money) contract that we just signed Napoli to. Something short-ish term for flexibility. What sort of money is Cody asking for in comparison??
  11. Nail. Head. Excited about the acquisition personally.
  12. The Green Monster giveth and the Green Monster taketh away.
  13. With three doubles in this game already, I thought it should be noted: The RedSox have 4 players in the top few players for doubles in the majors. Ortiz 2nd, Sweeney 3rd, Pedey and Gonzo 5th equal
  14. Cody Ross is quite bad at baseball.
  15. 4IP, 1H, 1BB, 4K's, 0ER for Felix so far. Keep it up!
  16. In the entire of last season I don't remember Gonzo having as many junk AB's as he has had so far this season. Swings at way too much, needs to get his plate discipline back.
  17. Wow this season is some 6 weeks old and Ortiz has 14 doubles already.
  18. Papi shows no sign of age.
  19. Lol @ Salty. 4 pitches, 4 swings. Predictable outcome. Give me Lavarnway any day.
  20. Good start Felix - 1,2,3 - even if he did leave that last pitch right down main street....
  21. Ditto. I'm supposed to be writing an Economics essay on the Lewis Turning Point.... :thumbdown , save me RedSox
  22. To be perfectly honest, this team is not even close to the same team as last season. Of today's lineup arguably only Salty, Ortiz, Pedey and Gonzo were mainstays last season. Plus possibly Aviles, but he arrived late on, and was outshone by Scutaro largely anyway. Any team that goes through this many changes is going to struggle; losing your elite closer, replacing him with an injured player, losing the runner-up MVP to injury, and losing a $20m per year outfielder with bags of potential to injury. The key to fixing this team in my opinion starts with getting everyone healthy. We just don't know how good this team is until we do. Take a look at the attached image of today's lineup, the circled guys are the regular players from last season. Then take a look at our outfield - Ross, Nava, Sweeney (who has been excellent mind you) - and it says it all. We obviously need to add some arms to the bullpen also, and get better production out of our starters, but for me this is secondary to getting everyone healthy.
