  1. Can anyone suggest to me a somewhat-within-the-realms-of-possibility SP for the Sox to acquire that improves us significantly?
  2. With that said, would you expect the FO to trade Iggy then? Bearing in mind Ciriaco can cover for Drew.
  3. Dickey is a reigning Cy Young and a healthy Josh Johnson can resemble an ace. They almost have two, in my opinion. People's definitions of 'ace' differ though. Serious question, are we better in any of those 5 match ups I listed?
  4. Red Sox Rotation vs. Blue Jays Rotation, 2013 Season: Lester vs. Dickey Buchholz vs. Josh Johnson Dempster vs. Buehrle Doubront vs. Morrow Lackey vs. Romero Yikes...
  5. Some insight into how Dempster might find the switch to AL East: http://www.providencejournal.com/sports/red-sox/content/20121115-free-agent-pitchers-face-a-rude-reality-in-the-american-league-east.ece
  6. FYI: Regarding the FO choosing Napoli over LaRoche: It says to me that they want to trade Salty. Signing LaRoche would be good in its own right, he's a good 1B (better than Nap no less), but we'd probably not trade Salty. So it's like: Napoli + pitching help via Salty trade, or LaRoche.
  7. Not sure if this was ever posted, but confirms what most of us think/know:
  8. Some good chat on this thread. Good post mate, agree with all of that.
  9. Like it. But do they?
  10. We really do have to trade Salty IMO. They just signed Ross, so Ross is here. Napoli will play 1B and cover C like they have said. Lavarnway is a prospect who's ready to contribute. Given the lack of 'quality' catchers on the market Salty is the obvious one to go. We won't really miss him. Ross is a better defensive catcher, and Lavarnway can be a more consistent offensive weapon than Salty the K-machine. The question for me is, do we package him with Ells for top calibre pitching return and get a guy to rival Lester and Clay for the 1 & 2 spots, or do we accept our mediocre rotation and use Salty by himself to shore up the pen? (point being that Salty won't bring a top SP unless Ells is in the deal, and even then, it might be wishful thinking)
  11. Depressing, yet understandably, the Sox have 0% of the vote on their own forum. Sigh. Bridging year anyone?!!!!!
  12. In this situation I use 'Ace' for someone who would come in and be our #1. So essentially, they need to be a better, more consistent pitcher than Lester who can handle the demands of the AL East. I do get your definition though. I kind of like the idea of reserving the term for guys like Verlander, Halladay, King Felix etc.
  13. Is it unrealistic to think we might land an ace with Ells + Salty + Prospect?
  14. Agree with that mate. Hope it doesn't come to that though, I think Napoli has a lot to offer us in terms of Fenway power, positional flexibility and personality.
  15. Brilliant post mate. I'd love for this season's Sox to avoid the "buy anything that moves" crowd you mention, create a good clubhouse buzz and a bit of team spirit, and fight its way back into respectability. Respectability has to come first before contention.
  16. Unfortunately I don't see us signing Swisher. Like others have said, he can get more years elsewhere.
  17. I'm less convinced. But that might change if Cash gets some decent business done for you guys.
  18. Hi everyone. Topic's pretty simple, title says it all. As things stand on the 16th of December 2012, who's in the best shape to win the AL East? This may be a little premature, the off-season has a long way to go yet, but people can continue to post their thoughts on who's the favorite as things develop throughout the winter. I've attached a poll, but you can choose to hold off on voting until things develop a little more if you'd like. Just figured this thread could be a good place to direct AL East specific chat in the meantime.
  19. I know a lot of people have expressed concern over Shane's production and whether he can be effective going forward, but after watching his press conference it's clear we got an outstanding clubhouse guy. Seems a top guy and a real personality, so if he can get at least some way back to his best I think he'll be a good addition overall.
  20. @msimonespn: R.A. Dickey 12.1 WAR from 2010 to 2012. Ryan Dempster 6.5 WAR from 2010 to 2012 #justsayin
  21. @GordonEdes: Dempster, Red Sox strrike 2-year deal for $26.5m, pending physical., source confirms. @Ken_Rosenthal first with this one,.

  23. Sorry everyone, very busy with work lately so no time to go back and read through, but what exactly is the hold up with the Napoli deal??
  24. Is Dempster a done deal yet? Or at least "terms agreed"? Any idea how many years & $$ roughly?
  25. I see it now, Sox FO backs out of Napoli deal, Napoli goes elsewhere, comes to Fenway for important game next season with a big chip on his shoulder, hits many HRs, Sox lose.
