  1. That whole 'captain' thing was nothing but a fabrication to begin with. It was created specifically to deflect criticism after they ineptly misjudged the market for him and grossly over-paid for his services at the end of 04. It was mythical, a joke, and so was he when it came to 'leading' anyone or anything.
  2. Josh Beckett will address the media today at 12:00 noon. You can hear it live on WEEI.
  3. All that's true. And that's why Valentine and McClure will be treating the pitching staff (especially certain members) like young children this year. They have to. Whether these guys like it or not someone is constantly going to be monitoring them to make sure they're doing everything they're supposed to. They've got no one to blame but themselves.
  4. Absolutely. I think that comment was merely poetic license in trying to let the guy walk away with some dignity. People have to remember that contrary to what Tim said yesterday, this wasn't his choice. If the Sox had said there was a roster slot for him--he'd have taken it in a heartbeat. Remember, too--that his agent is the same guy who said just months ago that if the Sox didn't bring Tim back he was going to win 15 games for some other team. Ya right. But it's fine. Let the guy say what he wants. Just as long as he STAYS retired.
  5. That's why I'm holding off saying anything nice about the guy. If we get through mid-August and he's still honoring his word and sitting home, I'll give him some props. Not a minute before.
  6. Like you and I have been saying from the beginning, Pumpsie---keep your expectations low, and you'll enjoy the season just fine.
  7. Or Ernest Riles. They're all the same.
  8. That's 'maybe' another 3rd place finish.
  9. Ya, this is the best news we've gotten the entire off-season, IMO. Amen.
  10. WEEI's Rob Bradford is reporting that Tim Wakefield will be holding a press conference at 5PM in Fort Meyers to announce his retirement.
  11. Well how the hell do you think this list of s***-kickers are going to wind up in the rotation? You need to take a deep breath and think. You're apparently one of those loose-cannoned tub-thumpers who speak before thinking. That's very apparent. If you're willing to work on it I'm willing to help. Let me know.
  12. While Drew was never the elite ballplayer Blunder promoted him as---he wasn't the worst we've had either. But that was par for the course when it came to Blunder judging talent. The lasting impression of Drew that will be forever etched in my brain was him standing there emotionless when Ellsbury pulled off perhaps the most exciting play in baseball with his steal of home against the Yankees back in 09. Totally lifeless. Comatose.
  13. And how many innings do you think we get out of Bard as a SP? Aceves?
  14. It's that old adage about someone trying to convince you that ten dirty old pennies is the equivalent of a shiny new dime. Which would you rather have? That's all they've done here. Some are buying into it--most aren't.
  15. So what are you saying? That Jason Johnson, Kyle Snyder, DiNardo and that cast of losers were never in our rotation back in 06? Is that what you're saying? Jesus lord what an apologist.
  16. Don't let that bus leave without me.
