  1. Wow could the Sox have gone up and down any faster? They have no patience what-so-ever at the plate during this slump, something they were often credited for when they were going good.
  2. Way to go Josh. Beckett did not even throw a waste pitch 0-2. That was the straight change again that he struck the guy out on it. Down in the zone....a great pitch....up in the zone......I think I could hit it. Sorry about that. I barely saw the pitch at real speed and thought it was the straight change....curve ball KO. Josh has not thrown many curves tonight.
  3. Maybe I just saw the answer to my own question. Beckett has grown to rely a good deal on the straight change as he has aged and when it is down in the zone it is a nasty pitch.....more a swing and miss pitch than a ground ball pitch though. However when that pitch is up in the zone it is flat and ridiculously easy to hit. Now that I think about it that might be why Josh has these total explosion innings now where he pitches pretty well and then has an inning where he just cannot get anybody out and the ball is flying all over the place. His fastball has lost some zip and that straight change is either feast or famine.
  4. Geez can't he get the ball down when he needs to. Ya' can't strike everybody out especially as you age as a pitcher. If Beckett can't pitch smarter as he ages he is not going to have much of a career left.
  5. Boy I am not likin' this. Beckett has not thrown many ground ball pitches when he has needed them all year and he really needs one here.
  6. Boy I don't like using the hit and run with Ortiz at the plate. You force Dave to swing in that situation and while he has obviously aged some I don't like taking the bat out of his hands. Dave is a low ball hitter that got left swinging at a rising fastball.....not the kind of pitch Dave is good at hitting especially these days. Tito has over-managed this team too much lately.
  7. Wow what a bad ball four call on that inside fastball from Beckett. Jesus is this guy totally blind? Ya' can't take both sides of the plate away from the pitcher.
  8. Actually Welter got his in the air more and that is why it went out. The ball is really carrying to left in Baltimore tonight. In fact it seems to be carrying pretty well anyway but any ball hit in the air to left tonight looks like it might have a shot. That was really a s*** home run. I bet Salty actually hit his harder.
  9. The penalty you pay for being up in the strike zone. Anybody think Beckett used to have enough of a fast ball to get that pitch by a guy like that a few years ago?
  10. Asking that a single marathon game and just about the only gutty performance this team has had in weeks will be a catalyst that results in getting their mental house in order is asking alot'. They are just too fouled up at this point. They should be able to beat the O's even with the effort they are getting these days. All we can hope for and ask for is a win tonight, hopefully enough wins to get to the post season and then who knows......maybe they get lucky. What is that old saying "better lucky than good". They will need that one this year as they are not as good at this point as the Rangers, Tigers or Yanks. Maybe they hang around long enough in the playoffs for Buckholz to give them a few innings. That would be lucky as hell.
  11. Ellsbury does it again. That is the guy that we really better be able to sign. It will take a fortune given the Crawford contract. What a mess the Crawford signing has made. I remember at the time thinking how wrong it all felt. Crawford was not in their plans....not on anybody's radar screen. It was a totally indulgent move. Anyway thank you Mr. Ellsbury.
  12. So lets see, instead of at least giving bard a chance to get Posada, because the count goes 3-0 we just walk Posada.....I am guessing that we are doing that to get to Pap. If he does not bring in Pap at this point i don't know what the hell he was doing.
  13. I already regret watching this game. Win or lose it is yet another example of what is wrong with this team.
  14. Bard is not going to get Tex out.
  15. Salty completely overmatched there. If MR is keeping the ball down like that there are not many guys at about Salty's ability that have much of a shot.
  16. It worked out but I don't know that I would have wanted Bard against Cano only because Bard has been so far off lately and Aceves was pitching very well to that point. Like you said, let Aceves finish it....over managing!
  17. Did CC try to steal on an 0-1 count? I guess I don't have much difficulty with him trying to get to 2nd via steal but pick a better count to steal on or stay put.
  18. If Tito had not brought Aceves in, it would not be tied. Lackey would have given up the guy he put on and then some as he came out throwing in the 7th the same way he threw in the 6th. Only difference, Yanks missed bad pitches in the 6th. This is the Aceves controversy (as if I am tellin' you guys something you don' know). Aceves stuff is so much better than Lackey's or Wakes knuckle and it makes little sense to save him for 6th or 7th inning duties when the Sox are likely to already be behind by 3 or 4 by then.
  19. Oh come on John. What do you have to be huffy about. You are leaving with a lead and you lucked out in the 6th. We need this game badly man. What does he expect.....to be left in so he can hang one with one guy on and bang we are back to down by one? Sorry John.....sit down.
  20. Carl, please show a little patience up there. This guy is actually putting some balls in places where you might hit it.
  21. Come on Sox.....give us a rally for once. Actually I did not like Lackey's 6th at all. He got out of it but made some really bad pitches that the Yanks missed. Based on that 6th in what is now a tie game I would give Lackey very little rope in the 7th if he comes out for it at all.
  22. This is a little scary cause Lackey is throwing BP again. But he has two outs so hopin' he can get out of this inning.
  23. We cannot catch a break but the old saying is true. You make your own breaks. That WP must have bounced off a support to have come back like that and nail Petey. Really interested to see how Lackey does here. Keep it down John.
  24. Cano desperately trying to convince Sox that he is worthy of consideration in Boston boots a DP. "See I can play like you guys".
  25. I think Tito will give Lackey some rope at this point unless he really gets tagged or unless he has a really long stay on the bench (like because of a Sox rally) and stiffens up. His delivery looks completely different when he is getting breaking balls to stay down and I have to think that if he stiffens up, that goes away.
