  1. Well I don't know where that came from. It was low on the body but seemed to be aimed with intent. I have been in and out and have missed some of the play by play. Did Buch hit one of the Miami guys?
  2. This does seem to be a really tough place to get one out. The one HR tonight looked like it was absolutely shot out of a cannon.
  3. Well in point of fact, NL baseball strategy really has to take the pitchers spot into account up and down the batting order. Much of what a manager does well before the pitcher comes to the plate takes into account trying to clear him for the next inning or trying to use him in some way. So the pinch hit thing is really only the most obvious decision the manager has to make. Not defending NL play. It is different though and much more involved than just whether or not the manager will pinch hit or not.
  4. Interesting that Buch is staying in at 90 pitches. More evidence I think that Managers are going to have starters go more pitches and by default more innings than we have seen in the past. Buch will surely end up over 100 if he pitches eve through the next inning.
  5. Wow really bad mistake by Ramirez at 3rd...about as bad a play as you can make over there.
  6. See that strike call on Aviles for strike 2? That is exactly why I hate these umps hanging over the inside shoulder of the catcher or worse between the inside shoulder and the batter. Something I have talked about here. You can't tell me, that the ump actually saw that strike. That is a flat out guess.
  7. Must make for interesting pre-game discussions 'Hey man lets go to the baseball park and watch the dancing girls" Gag me with a spoon! That one should bring back memories.
  8. Wow Buch goes to the slurve...did not know he had that
  9. Now that is funny....NESN running what I think must be a Subway commercial blurb here in the 6th inning that says "hurry in for the Chicken and Spinach" Fitting!
  10. Did you guys hear about the record the Sox are compiling this year when they are behind? It is looking much like it was last year when they only came back twice in 63 chances when behind in the 7th inning. This year they are 2-23 when behind after the 6th inning. Oh yea this team is full of fight this year.....more ********.
  11. It would be more interesting for the audience if the announce team was highlighting things about baseball that are subtle and go beyond the usual, "boy he hit that one well" dialog that is the norm.....a real shame especially for the younger viewers that might not even be able to recognize what they are seeing.
  12. I cannot say whether Mike has always insisted on pulling like this. Lets assume for moment that he has. One of the things that is difficult for MLer's to adapt to is their changing physical skills as they age. Mike is not old but he is not as young as he once was. It is not easy to always pull the ball and you really do sort of need peak physical skills to pull it off when the opposition knows that is what you are trying to do. That time may have passed Mike by. It would not at all be unusual for Mike to be past the absolute peak of his physical abilities.
  13. Pods is another example of a hitter that realizes that all hitters have limitations. He knows his and succeeds because he does not beat himself. Sure he will be overmatched at times because he is kinda' old for a ML ballplayer and time has sort of passed him by. But he won't beat himself.
  14. Aviles has physical skills but he does not seem to be a very smart ballplayer at least from what I have observed. Any hitter that makes his intentions at the plate obvious becomes meat for really good pitchers. You can get away with that with s*** pitchers, not good pitchers. Aviles absolutely insists on trying to pull. It is plain as day and he becomes an easy out under the circumstances.
  15. Well I just really like baseball and really like the Sox as hard as it is to watch them these days...it is still baseball and it is still Red Sox baseball.
  16. I see Remy's point about those big columns in the upper deck....man they have to block a bunch of seats.
  17. Its a late arriving crowd on the forum tonight....or.....folks are beginning to lose interest.
  18. Does anybody have any news on Iggy injury status? Does he have a long way to go to get healthy?
  19. Actually if Youk does not play LL AND Youk are cryin'. Of course if the Sox lose that is apparently a big who cares. At this rate, how many games do you think Youk will have to play to impress anybody? He has fallen so far recently that I think he will likely have to play all the way up to the deadline to have a shot at being impressive to anybody.
  20. Insisting on trying to pull there is just another example of this talk of "we support each other....we pull for each other" is all talk. Aviles is batting in a park with a pretty huge LF with a chance to get a lead with a hit and as usual just refuses to adapt his approach to this plate appearance to what the team needed.....these guys are just so much ********.
  21. Aviles insisting on pulling s pitch he cannot pull AGAIN!
  22. Did not know we would lose every GD game between then and now either. Seems a bad time to sit Ortiz. I am anxious to see how he works his way out of swinging at high inside heat. Last time he had to do this he had an off season as I recall to pull it off. Now he has to do it mid season. Once again though that pitch is giving him fits.
  23. Really says something when the desire to finally get somebody to grow some interest for Youk outweighs putting the best team on the field to win the game. This FO and ownership group is a joke. Spent like drunken sailers and did not like that result...now trying to pinch pennies, not wanting to pay salary on Youk and probably won't like that result either. Might do the forum's Youk fans to realize that nobody is willing to give anything for him because......his value in the future and even today is very much in question. Easy to say he is great....will be great.... when it is not your money. If I am not mistaken Ortiz BA against tonight's pitcher is something like 130 points higher than Youk's but Ortiz sits and Youk plays. Also, do you really think V is making up this lineup card?
  24. I think umps have to much leeway in how they position themselves behind catchers and I would resolve that as a first order of business. You cannot really train these guys on balls and strikes the way you as a league want them called if you allow the home plate ump to position himself wherever he damn well pleases. That is the first thing baseball needs to come to terms with. Once baseball has them all in one spot, baseball can dictate how balls and strikes will be called and we will then have a shot at imposing consistency which is really the biggest complaint anybody has. You give managers two challenges and it will be "oh gosh, if I only had a third challenge we could have won". Its ********.
