  1. Cleveland hitters are going to be kicking themselves if Tito shows them film of these AB's.
  2. Felix with a AAA FB trying to pitch in the ML. Walks piling up faster than usual as he now nibbles more than ever. As high as his pitch counts have been they appear to be heading for the stratosphere this year. Headed for the century mark in 4 innings at this rate today.
  3. It appears that Farrell does not believe in hot streaks. I guess he does not believe in cold streaks either. He ends up sounding an awful lot like a fan. I expect us to blow up small signs of optimism into potential turned corners. Surely what Farrell says might just be media-speak but what he says appears to mate up to what he does.
  4. Been a weird game within what has turned out to be a sort of Twilight Zone kind of series with these Guardians. Gotta' love what Pedey has done so far in this series though. He has been incredible both in the field and at the plate. Been a monster.
  5. In part this is why I thought it would be more than just a little bit before Ells can get on track. He did not get here overnight and he is not going to be all the way back overnight either. I should have chimed in earlier if for no other reason than to suggest that Standing Room is "not" seeing things. Ells has been doing this now for at least the last couple weeks. I put up a post very similar to Standing Room's a couple weeks ago in a game where it was virtually every at bat. That is not to say you are categorically wrong SFF but neither is Standing Room. Ells looks something like a guy that thinks he is carting an aluminum bat to the plate as guys that get used to swinging the old style, forgiving aluminum bat can often fall into the same habit.
  6. Lester has been given every opportunity to be the man here. Could not pass Beckett by and I do believe Buch is/has passed Jon by.
  7. Pedey is so good with two strikes. One of the few guys left that you could almost say that "he has the pitcher right where he wants him". Just terrific bat control, plate sense and discipline. I still believe when he is all said and done he will have out-Jetered Jeter by miles as he will move the ball around from foul pole to foul pole just as much as Jeter but will generate many more extra base hits along the way.
  8. Lester still tends to go cutter crazy at times like this. I really hoped he had turned the corner on that one as it is really a flaw.
  9. Guardians deciding to challenge Gomes defensive abilities. Hopefully scouts will take notice and not send guys on a play like that. They sure as hell would have taken notice if Gomes had not been able to make that play.
  10. Jeez for all the talk of aging Red Sox ballplayers on this board it appears to be us doing the aging....brain cell counts must be down. The Sox got protection on Lackey's contract because of elbow concerns. So the signs where there and the Sox tried to do something about it. Not sure what they did was the best remedy but there is every chance that is is finally going to work out for both the Sox and Lackey. The thing I have liked is watching Lackey pitch with command of his pitches. Clearly now that we are able to see him pitch the way he wants to pitch and the way he can pitch, he was really struggling through 2011. He was not able to set up hitters the way he can now. It is fun watching him pitch now. He is obviously a very professional pitcher.
  11. Well there have been many posts on this board talking about the age when players start to head toward the back nine. However there is no reason to suggest that Vic is suddenly heading there faster. The tone in some of these posts suggests that guys are just crumbling to dust before our very eyes. You don't even have to be professional athlete for your spine to start to show some signs of aging once you get into your thirties. Vic does not appear to be going through anything truly alarming at this point. As for Lackey, all the evidence has been that he has worked really hard to get back to where he is. He was not rushed back and appears to have used the time to good purpose. Hey if he pitches the way he has for whatever time he gets this season, he will end up being a big plus even if he is on some sort of starts count or innings count or what have you.
  12. I live just about an hour north of Fenway. If it is raining there like it is here...man that would be miserable weather for the ballplayers. This is a very cold, bitter, and bitting rain here tonight...more like a fall than a spring rain.
  13. One thing I appreciate about Lackey this year that we did not get to see earlier in his Sox career is the way he sets hitters up. He struggled so much through 2011 and there were days when he just did not have command of everything he can throw when he is right. He really is a very polished and professional pitcher in many ways. Now that I have set myself up, I am sure he will go out and pipe three parking lot shots right though the heart next inning.
  14. Now that I think about it.....probably the only reason Salty's throws to 2nd generally don't end up rolling around in the outfield is because the middle infielders have more time to react to where the ball is going. Surprised Salty gets the ball back to the pitcher with regularity.
  15. Farrell should simply prevent Salty from throwing the ball to anywhere but back to the pitcher or 2nd base. Seems like about 1 out of every 3 Salty throws to either 1st or 3rd ends up rolling around in the outfield.
  16. I blinked and missed Iggy's AB I really think that was a great play by Pedey. He does stuff like this so often I think we almost take him for granted at this point. This year especially....he has been a walking highlight reel.
  17. Carp looking like he just won the lottery.....just a little bit happy!
  18. Odd start to this one. It looks like it is really pouring out there at the moment...not just raining.
  19. Last year there were instances when Ciriaco played better than you would expect on average for a utility infielder......especially at SS. Maybe in truth we saw much more of the best Ciriaco has to offer. Baseball is so competitive that the process of a player working his way up will usually expose him either as a guy that can play ML baseball every day or a guy that can't. Not many guys fall through the cracks, ending up in the wrong place especially if they have been in the pro baseball system for awhile. So maybe what we are seeing this year from Ciriaco is just the other end of the spectrum for him. He was a real disappointment at 3rd this time around. It looked like foreign soil to him.
  20. Bringing Iggy up to play 3rd base would seem to say that the Sox have no interest in seeing Ciriaco back there again....ever. True that last time we saw Ciriaco at 3rd, he was terrible...really something of a surprise since he has played 3rd at least as well as you might expect from a utility infielder.
  21. Game over in NY...Tuuka would have done just as well to have been kicking goals into his own net tonight. Hopefully he gets all of that out of his system in one game.
  22. To be honest that scares me shitless.
  23. Oh my God....what a game this has been.....Oddly enough, the Sox could have put on skates and the Bruins cleats tonight and the result would have been just about what we have had.
  24. Bruins/Sox seem to be playing in sympathy. Bruins are now up but just took a stupid "too many men on the ice" penalty and the Rangers just scored to tie the game. Lots of stumbling and bumbling by both Bruins and Sox tonight.
  25. Bruins/Rangers now 2-2 in the 3rd. Bruins have two power play goals and are going on the power play again now. Rangers have two odd ball goals. Rask tripped over himself on one. Embarrassing.
