  1. Just the kind of lazy play that drives people nuts when discussing Cano.
  2. Do you mean AB's where the hitter swings at the 0-0 pitch or do you mean instances where the hitter actually puts the ball in play 0-0?
  3. Well in truth, you can look up a study done by Stanford University that took all the results for all pitches in all counts for four full seasons. The worst count to swing from a hitter result standpoint is 0-0. However if you are guessing and guess right and have got a pitch in your wheelhouse I just don't think you can let that go by. For some guys that is middle middle. For others it is belt high inside or just below the belt.
  4. If we can just get two runs and put us out of danger for a solo HR, that could be enough today.
  5. Ells seems to me to be just about perfect right now from the perspective of aggressiveness at the plate. He is not swinging at pitches he cannot drive. He is picking good pitches to hit...just happen to be early in counts...I am as critical as anybody here of impatience at the plate but you can't let pitches you can drive go hoping for something better later in the count. You may just as likely be behind in the count stuck trying to hit a pitcher's pitch. I do think he is guess hitting and guessing right as opposed to reacting. He is all over those pitches.
  6. It is almost too funny to watch them now. If the player has a smidgen of talent, he has no brain....enter Mr. Gardener....then the rest of them basically have no talent...maybe Nunez has a little....Overthehill....I mean Overbay, Wells....a tiny little bit left in the tank it seems. In Gardener's case he just about does enough stupid s*** to balance out his talent...almost exactly....uncanny how exacting that works out in his case. Cano must feel pretty lonely out there.
  7. Man the Yankees just cannot string enough offense together to hurt you at this point. Lucky to string two hits between three outs.
  8. We split the season series with the Rays last year. Both teams are better this year for different reasons.
  9. Rays just beat Jays again. Maybe the Rays will get sloppy tomorrow having taken the first two out of three but I doubt it.
  10. Gardner is such a stiff. Glad he sucks since I hate his ass.
  11. My question was....if he is supposedly trying to get back on the mound ASAP, and this has dragged on so long with HIM telling the Sox when he will be ready to pitch...why has he not as yet already gotten a 2nd independent opinion? That simply does not jive. He is telling the Red Sox that this is HIS decision, not theirs and yet he still has not sought an outside independent opinion to this date.....almost 7 weeks in! INDEFENSIBLE!
  12. Just got to the update on Buch's Friday med. exam. Categorized by Farrell as "benign" with no additional damage found. I guess Buch is considering a second opinion...something he very likely should already have done if he was aggressively trying to get back on the mound as everybody suggests. So, Buch tells everybody he will tell the Sox when he is ready to pitch but has not as yet gotten a second opinion????? I will say it again, one of the last holdovers from the "entitled" Red Sox players....to me a guy that was clearly effected by idiot Beckett and who is basically clueless. In case we have not noticed, we are already in a race only 2.5 up on the surging Rays who could come in here next week as close as .5 down with 4 games to play with the Sox. I have always hated 4 game series with the Rays.
  13. If it is Peavy, I would think the Sox would end up willing to give up a bit of talent...not talent they really care about but talent in order to cut into that money. Their bullpen issues are really the most pressing at this point. Taz is not looking good and we could easily overtax Ueh. Miller put a big hurt on the pen when he went down and Bailey is gone. I think the smart play will be to take care of the pen issue if they can. If that gets done, then maybe they can go get a rotation arm. But I don't where the pen is at all at this point.
  14. The thing to remember about Bailey is that he is not Ueh. Ueh hides the ball behind him and slings it to home plate. On the one hand he does probably put a lotta' stress on his arm doing that but that is how he gets away with the 89 mph FB. Bailey does not do that. He has a flat doing nothing FB that the hitter sees all the way to home plate. 89 mph for Bailey is a train wreck waiting to happen. That is also why without secondary pitches, he is toast. That is what finally caught up to Bailey completely this year....he had to throw that nothing FB and hitters just killed it. Honestly I think this would have caught up to Bailey sooner if he had been pitching to any extent in recent seasons. As I said earlier, I think Bailey has surgery. Just about no way around it. Recovery is like 1.5 years and then what? I would say he tries it if he is even capable of that for about six months without success or maybe sustaining yet another injury and that is the end of that. If it is with the Sox it is on a completely different deal...like virtually no money.
  15. Post shoulder surgery with his history???? i give him about a 10% chance of coming back and pitching in the ML's for more than half a season. More likely not at all after shoulder surgery. There is no shoulder version of TJ for the elbow.....it is just all luck...surely as much a matter of luck as back surgery is for us regular folk. Know anybody that has really come out of back surgery just ready to party?
  16. Yea Bailey is done in Boston. I said weeks ago that he was either headed for surgery or out of baseball. Actually I might modify that. He is likely headed for surgery AND out of baseball.
  17. Every reason to think we can sweep these Yankees. I think we need to cause if the Rays come back to beat the Jays tonight (and they are leading now), I would bet the Jays will fold their tent for the next two and get swept out as well. I want to come into that Rays series up the same we are now.
  18. When the time comes....the Sox will do what it takes to keep Pedey. However I don't even think Pedey will make it that tough on them. Pedey will be financially set for life and he likes playing here. The last thing I would worry about is Pedey going anywhere.
  19. You seem to be forgetting that their history is to morph into a late season monster and we are right now weaker than we have been all year. I would not put much stock in our head to head so far this year. IMO opinion, these games coming up are going to be hell on wheels.
  20. f***ing Rays doing it again. At some point ya' gotta' give it to them. We used to say "Oh it is easy for them. they finish low, get high draft picks and stock the minors". They have finished high, low and middle, continue to make good decisions, make excellent signings and continue to play tough year after year. Once again playing them is going to be like a trip to f***ing Paris Island.
  21. Well we can thank s*** head Gardener for that run. If he had not been tossed Iche would have been out there and he would have caught that in the air for the third out.
  22. The only Red Sox swing worse than WMB's (if he were here) is Napoli's. He is all over the place. It really does bother me that we do not destroy a team like this. The yanks are two guys down from what is barely a ML team to begin with and we can't pull away from them.
  23. This....hate getting beat by Jeter but besides Mo....Jeter is the only Yank that at least deserves some props. Now I have no idea how I forgot horseface. He should slot in there right behind Gardner.
  24. The Yanks make themselves so easy to hate....Swisher....Gardner....A-roid......Cano..... to an extent.....they are just so easy to hate.
  25. Damn it is like Petite and Felix switched unis somewhere in here. That said that gift run really sucked. Can't be giving away runs to anybody. I have never seen a catcher have as much difficulty throwing to 3rd.
