  1. Fine....let somebody else risk all that cash on Mookie if they want to do so.
  2. It appears he is going to want Harper, Marchado money. Simply not a worthwhile direction to go in whether he recovers this year or not. He is simply too diminutive in physical stature. For one thing he is one wrist injury away from suddenly being a very average player, one run in with the outfield wall, one collision with a player. He is just not big enough to play Manfred-ball or risk big money on him playing Manfred-ball. You want to blame somebody...blame Manfred and the idiot MLB.
  3. I said depending on the return.....they should have started figuring Mookie out of the picture in the long run from that moment on. Maybe they have been. There is no future in trying to deal with Mookie at Machado, Harper money. Zippo....zero....nada. They may not be able to turn Mookie into a really good return even now as the reigning MVP. AND how do you know what we would have gotten for Mookie and how we would have faired in 2018. We cruised through the 2018 regular season and in the post season Mookie did......NOTHING.
  4. Depending on the return....YUP....in a NY Minute. Should have been trying to as soon as he hit the reject button on their offer to sign him.
  5. I have said it before and I will say it again....Mookie is simply physically too small to invest big money into. People talk Harper and Machado. Harper is 6-3, 220, Machado is 6-3, 215. Mookie is 5-9, 180. Mookie is not getting Harper, Machado, Trout money from me....not on a bet.
  6. Pearce was without question a total waste of money. Hated that move right from the start. I was in favor of signing Nate though it has not worked out as yet and may never work out. Pitching is a crap shoot. Not convinced I would have given Moreland his contract either. In fact I am pretty non-plused about the way the Sox have handled 1st base in total. The only complaint I have on JD is that they appear to be trying to either keep him happy or justify him by sticking him in the OF. He looks like a wounded giraffe out there. Don't know what that is about. But they better keep him completely out of a Fenway OF from now on and they better pick the away game outfields they put him in based on how comfy and cozy they are. Didn't we get Carson Smith and Thorny cheap because they were considered higher than normal injury risks? You get what you pay for.
  7. And of course spending like a drunken sailor happens to be DD's reputation. Got a WS out of him. Not convinced we will get much more than that. I actually think John Henry got what he expected out of DD and is using Kennedy and his own judgement to throttle DD back on his usual MO. There are no MLB dynasties any longer and I don't think there will be any. There certainly won't be one here where the organizational revenue streams are as detached from the performance on the field as they can be. They are running a carnival down there at Fenway. We are likely lucky that the organization HAS so much money to spend. Probably the only real reason we are getting championships about 1 year in 4.
  8. Actually I think Henry is trying to dampen expectations regarding spending which to some extent takes DD off the hook. The performance on the field falls to the Manager, Coaches and Players.
  9. No question the pen is a huge problem. I have alternately called them the Bucket-o-Chicken Bullpen Bums or the Basket-o-Chicken Bullpen Bums just to play to whatever particular fast food fried chicken people might prefer. They stink....sorry, throw all the stats at me you want fans of the pen....they stink. However the way the game is played today the pen or I should say your pen has to start with a guy that can reliably be expected to meet the challenge of the 9th inning. It starts with that as having somebody that can, lifts your entire team and not having one deflates your entire team. As such if John Henry can't be convinced by DD/Kennedy to part with much money, get a Closer, even a slightly over the hill Closer. ANYBODY would be better than what we are tossing out there in the 9th now. Cora will have to stitch it together between when the Starter exits and the Closer enters, just like every other Manager in contemporary MLB.
  10. I would not be so sure about that. The Yankmees started pulling players out once they had like 8-10 run leads in those games. What....do we think we would have finally one of these ridiculous Manfred-ball games 25-24? They have more firepower in the batting order and more horse in the pen. We just have to deal with it not being our year at least as it relates to the division and probably a meaningful WS run. All we have is a Rotation that is not performing to its expectations. In fact, given Cora's tactical blunder at the start I am beginning to wonder what the f*** the Sox brass actually had for expectations regarding this Rotation.
  11. Spending money on offense at this point would be foolhardy. That said it is clear what ales Mookie and JD. They are not getting enough of their pitches and are getting far more breaking pitches and struggling with them. If they do not resolve that, then the offense will surely not be as efficient. However IMO, the Sox have no choice but to ride the horses they have. Also whether we like it or not, its too easy to shut Chavis down. When push comes to shove the better pitchers will shut him down. They will spend the money on pitching if anywhere and that is exactly what they should do if they are in fact going to spend money.
  12. There is no reason to give on a WC birth. But the division is gone if the division is what we are talking about. Just do the math. Besides, it seems pretty obvious that if anybody is going to bust the budget to get to the crown, this year its the Yankmees.
  13. Actually now that I think about it, if DD wants to spend more money on players this year he has to go to Kennedy first. Kennedy is now the CEO, not just the President as he was when DD was hired. So DD has to make a baseball case to Kennedy and Kennedy has to make a business case. Considering anything they spend at this point likely kicks them into more lux tax expense, Kennedy probably either goes himself to Henry for a decision or drags DD along with him to Henry for a decision on any expenditures for players.
  14. If I had to bet, DD will get us a somewhat over the hill closer which would still be better than whomever we toss out there to close now. The Bucket-o-fried chicken bum bullpen outside of that will have to take care of itself. Will help us get to the WC and that is about it.
  15. Its not up to Dave. Its up to John Henry. If it were up to Dave he would have Henry selling his yacht, his houses, the Network and Liverpool. DD has a history.
  16. This would be a good time for Chapman to have one of his truly ugly stints.
  17. Geezus, it over 81 games in and at best we come out of these two games having done nothing more than tread water. Before these 2 London games BEFORE them, we had to go .679 for the remaining games just to win 99. Do you think 99 wins this division? Do you think we were going .679 or whatever the f*** it will take now?
  18. They will pick around the edges of the issues they have with a few changes that don't really do much AND don't cost much, herald them as "giving them a chance" and playing for the WC, you can get away with that. IMO the chance that they would do enough to compete with this Yankmee team in the post season is zero.
  19. Its not every year that we can measure ourselves v the Yankmees though we tend to do it out of habit. This is one year when we justifiably can and its not a pretty picture. But that is as much for what the Yankmees have done as much as we haven't. IMO, expecting DD to spring for big bucks is likely a pipe dream. Henry is not interested. His money is from the network and the carnival they run at Fenway every game. I suspect Henry is curtailing DD because if the owner doesn't DD will lay waste to the franchise farm system and the budget all at the same time. Its inevitable with DD unless the owner steps in.
  20. Betts is so f***ed up. Does anybody think Mookie should have been swinging at one of those two pitches if not both of them?
  21. And he finds it....he finds it. Even a blind pig...etc etc
  22. Travis again. Time for my blind pig, turnip metaphor.
  23. One short of my 20 prediction though I would now prefer the total be 25 with our guys at 13.
  24. You can't take anything away from them about last year. There is a lotta' reality in MLB that fans are just not accommodating...like forget dynasties...that is done. Maybe even forget back to back given travel and all the other crap they throw at these guys coupled with the crap from their agents and from themselves. Its not my father's MLB. Heck its not even my MLB anymore. That said, DD has a shelf life and it ain't that long.
