Just some outside the box thinking here, but considering Lackey does have the highest ERA in franchise history (!), do you think perhaps we send him to the bullpen next year?
Before you all jump on me and say it's a terrible idea, let me just say I know it's probably not happening and I'm just opening some discussion, but think about it. We're stuck with him for three more years, he makes too much and plays too poor for any team to take him off our hands, and he's obviously not working out as a starter. I'm not saying give him the closer's job, but really, what would we have to lose if we ease him into the role? It's a gamble and maybe it will pay off. Can't be any worse than what he's giving us now.
OK, just some food for thought, and it scares me we have to trot this guy out there for three more years as a starter. Preferably, I just wish he'd visit Bartolo Colon's doctor instead.
