  1. Which is why he will be placed on the DL today or tommorrow and his season will be over.
  2. The redsox need to pay Ortiz that much now, they don't nearly enough in the middle of the lineup without him. And as for the complaining, yeah he can have moments but with the big scrutiny in Boston with the media who wouldn't bitch about some things ( sometimes rightly sometimes a little selfishly). And who hear hasn't done the same about their own job? I don't know but wanting Papi out for his attitude seems riddiculous, he's one of the better ones on the team and one of the four players who went to Peskey's funeral. And Upper management does love him, because he has been a beast for this team and does a fair amount of charity work for Boston and the dominican.
  3. That is true, Lester seems to be getting back on track lately and has good trade value, but in a deal like this ,not nearly the value of Buccholz. Lester has 1 year left at 11 mill plus a club option, Buccholz who has at minnimum the same potential as lester has three years left for 5,7 and 12 million plus a club option for a fourth year ( which is why i think he would be requested in a deal like this)
  4. For anyone interested in former prospects, Kelly just got called up and will make his major league debut monday night.
  5. No way they would take that package, Lester has struggled this year not enough top top tier prospects and Felix Hernandez is only 26. He also has two years left for this contract with Seattle. Gio Gonzalez got Oakland prospects ranked around 50-65 ( depends on which list you look at some they are as high as 36) in A.J.Cole and Brad Peacock. a back up catcher whose numbers aren't to bad (average is low at .210 but a 280 obp and 5 hr and 5 steals in 38 games is good and he has thrown out 34 percent of runners which is very good) and a guy who has 10 wins and a 3.87 era (17th in the al for startes). That was for a guy that had two good years of mlb time.Felix had three full years of mlb time before Gio got a call up. And they are the same age. Also, he loves Seattle and the GM has said “He ain't going anywhere. He's staying right here. … When you have the best or near the best, why would you want to trade him? I'm just not in the mood to trade Felix Hernandez" If they traded for him the price would be insane ( also it would not include Lavarnway, they have Montero and just drafted Mike Zunino in the first round this year, and he has 13 homers in 38 games in A and AA this year) The least amount i could see them asking/getting from the redsox is- Ellsbury or Buccholz, Middlebrooks or Bogaerts,Tazawa or Miller, then probably Bradley jr, webster and cecchini maybe another high prospect plus Mauro gomez ( i just see him going in that deal) and we get Hernandez, Figgins and Franklin Guttierrez . Sound to steep? The fanbase in Seattle would kill him if he didn't get the biggest haul ever for him. They had 3 top 20 prospects ( 2 pitchers) on almost every ranking sheet coming into this year. They are getting better have some big money off the books ( with ichiro gone) and have been playing better baseball since the All star break.
  6. He's better suited in other roles than closing, It's good he's passionate but they traded for Bailey to close, he's going to get that job either this year or next year. Alfredo's only chance was to put up numbers like Chapman like numbers where they can't take him out as closer.
  7. Maybe this is the start to what most fans are asking for. Aviles,Shoppach,Crawford and Punto were placed on Waivers Friday and all cleared waivers so they can be traded by August 31st. Looks like at least a few people will be moved and let some of the young kids have a shot to see what they can do.
  8. Buccholz is a number one pitcher. There are right now maybe, five Aces in the AL Verlander, Hernandez, Weaver, Price and Sabathia ( though Sabathia hasn't been fantastic this year, but still belongs on the list). They have been fantastic for multiple years and dominate teams. If Peavey stays healthy and does it again next year he belongs too. Buccholz definitly has the potential to join them he needs to stay healthy and consistent.
  9. low obp and bad starting pitching. that is the problem
  10. Oakland is a good team, Seattle isn't. They still can't hit though and are a lot easier to face as a pitcher.
  11. To answer the question the way he originally asked, Lackey. If it has nothing to do with anything else then lackey is the one. He's an ******* to EVERYONE. When he left the angels , angels fans everywhere laughed at what he got to come to the redsox. He's arrogant and blames anyone else he can about his failures. Baseball is harder in the AL East. You don't get 38 games against Oakland and Seattle. Suck it up and do your job better.
  12. It is a small sample size and i'm not saying he is dominant. But he can be very useful in a bullpen. He won't be a 8th or ninth inning guy but you need alot of pitchers now and he seems like he can hold his own. As for him always pitching in low stress innings, yeah mostly but i mean bases loaded, one run game with Prince at the dish, he did all right.
  13. You don't need a mid nineties fastball to be succesful. You need good location and a plus pitch , wether it's a fastball, changeup, curve it doesn't matter but you need good location . As long as he keeps that up he will be an effective reliever. You need a few guys like him in a bullpen. By your logic, only go for guys that throw mid nineties with a track record, doesn't always pan out either. I mean Jenks and Gagne were much better than Mortensen for us.
  14. How has this ownership group not shown respect for the fans? They have made some bad decisions but also, they kept Fenway intact and didn't build a new park. They were the only ownership group that really pushed for that. They spent 285 million on renovations, seating additions and seating renovations since they bought the team. They are spending about 175 million on the team this year. Now it isn't well spent money in some cases but that's the GM's fault. You can blame LL for his meddling, but he has always done that, including some of the good signings over the years. Now if you want to rip them for the fact that they are kind of egotistical, not good employers and throw former players, managers and anyone else under the bus, then sure you're absolutely right. I mean they are in no way the best ownership group, but they are definitly not the worst. As for the person who originally posted this thread, glad you found tickets and it's an amazing place and great experience and i wished i lived closer so i could go more often. Also, splurge and get some greasy over priced food. If your only going for one game, and don't get out to Fenway very often, then it just adds to the experience.
  15. Lester's velocity isn't really down. He is .4 miles per hour down from last year and .8 down form his career high for a year. His Cutter is actually at the highest miles per hour of his career. It is all lack of location and not as much movement. It's all missing by way to much. If it was velocity it would look a lot more like Ubaldo Jiminez who's average fastball speed for the last three years went, 96.3, 93.9, 92.4.
  16. That's terrible news, hopefully he can recover.
  17. Espn is reporting that the Mariners have traded Ichiro for two pitching prospects, D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar.
  18. Really? A guy that no one thought was going to be in the majors till next year, with 11 homers, 42 rbi, 3sb and a .285 average not performing to hopes. I think he has done fantastic other than not very many walks ( but he never has walked very much in the minors), so that probably won't happen soon if ever. His defense hasn't been great but from what i've read he's always done well on D in the minors so i'm sure it will improve as time goes on.
  19. No, Manny wasn't a good fielder and his numbers show it. I said Nava has five outfield assists. But, more importantly his advanced fielding metrics rate him this year as above average. That is something that Manny never did. Manny Ramiriez's entire career with the redsox his highest rating in a season was below average, usually he rated awful.
  20. His defense has improved greatly since his first call up ( where he was not very good). He has 5 outfield assists and actually rates above average in advanced fielding metrics.
  21. It's obvious everyone is missing the easy way. Just go 12-0 against the Yankees to finish out the year. Boom, division
  22. Espn's Joe Mcdonald is reporting that Ortiz is in a walking boot. Hopefully he isn't out to long.
  23. That Roy Halladay guy, he ended up being all right. He came up did well, got shelled in 2000 sent down and was wild and bad in the minors the whole rest of that year. he figured it out, it just took time.
