  1. Wonder what this means for the off-season trade market. Garza, Ramirez, Soriano, etc. have to be up for grabs you'd think.
  2. Ells! great catch there
  3. They want to keep the pitchers in the rotation on regular rest and with the double header coming after the off day, Miller or Aceves gotta get a start at some point.
  4. At some point you have to commit to letting a young player play his way out of a slump anyways. If you're ever going to make it as an every day player in the bigs you need to make an adjustment when the league gets the book on you. That's a learning process. If he's got as much promise as some people think, he might figure it out soon and maybe we could get lucky and have him hot going into the playoffs.
  5. I don't see the steroid connection at all. I'm not being apathetic when I say who cares, I'm trying to make a point. We actually don't pay their salaries, as fans all that should matter to us is the standings. The Sox won't be held back by a bad contract, we're not rooting for the Nationals here, if they want to go and sign somebody to a huge deal again this offseason they probably can. One underperforming player on a big contract doesn't matter to the Red Sox.
  6. Who cares what they're getting paid? I just hope he contributes.
  7. Absolutely. BTW, are you Darnell McDonald? I'm pretty sure you are. I can appreciate a guy campaigning for his starting job on internet message boards. You're a really bad base runner.
  8. right but you know his BA goes into his OBP, right? The problem is not his walks and such, it is that for the first month he couldn't have hit a beach ball and since then hasn't quite hit the ball at the pace that he's used to but has begun to come around. When he does get back to hitting at a .300 clip you will see his OBP numbers get better. Until then, cover your eyes when Crawford bats and focus hard on Youk, he's basically all OBP right now.
  9. Who cares? We're lucky enough to root for the Red Sox. If they think the market for a player they're after is getting crazy and they want to sign him anyway, they will. They have the money to do it. It won't keep them from making other moves and it's not our money. If Carl hits ~.290 with a .325 OBP, starts stealing bags and shows the gap power he had in tampa, he'll be helping our offense. That's not even taking into consideration that theres a lot of people out there who consider him the best defensive LFer in baseball. He will never be worth the money, but he's not a bad player by any means.
  10. Because April was by far the worst month of his career. Since, he's been much better. When a guy never has a month in his career hitting much below .250, signs a mega deal and changes cities and proceeds to hit .177 for his first month it's disconcerting, sure. But, when he rebounds from that and plays the next 2.5 months to his career averages it should be noted that he hasn't completely s*** his pants. If you wanna hate the guy, by all means go ahead, but the guy has been doing what he's done his whole career since about May 1st. I'll take a .436 SLG from Crawford. Nobody is going to argue that he's worth 20 mil. I hated the signing initially, but I think his defense is good and overall he's a pretty good player.
  11. Hitting .285 since may 1st.
  12. Really it was only one bad month. It's kind of like a reverse Ubaldo Jimenez thing going on here. Ubaldo was unreal for two months and then more or less average from June 2010 through his trade recently. He's been somewhat bad for the Guardians, but its a new team, write it off I guess. All of his perceived value comes from two months of pitching. Prior to 2010 he was solid, but certainly not an ace. Carl is the opposite. He's been pretty damn good his whole career and came over here and had easily the worst month of his career. Since then he's been playing close to his career averages and yet everyone in Boston thinks he sucks.
  13. Crawfords AB's are always going to be ugly, even when he's going well. And he's been going relatively well since May 1st.
  14. Totally spaced on the game while practicing guitar. Saw this post, figured Lackey gave up a 4-spot in the 1st or something. 1 run. lol
  15. Don't lose, douche bags. http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumblarge_481/1267010743B3Jl6w.jpg
  16. I think the deal was Lars and PTBNL for Harden, with the extra player coming from one list if he made all or most of his expected starts and another list if he sucked air on the DL for two months. When the Sox got his medicals they apparently wanted to change the deal to get rid of the PTBNL altogether. Oakland said buzz off. I think it was probably a situation where if there were more time something could have been worked out but with the non-waiver deadline approaching if they didn't get something else done they could have been left empty handed and on waivers, there's no guarantee you'll be able to get what you need. It was reported after the deadline that the Sox wanted to get Bedard AND Harden, so I'd say theres a chance they revisit it.
  17. Harden should clear waivers today right? Either that or we should get some news about a claim put in on him or something.
