I just thought it was an interesting subject. Obviously not now, but when Varitek is long gone, who will be the captain (if there is one, I know there doesn't have to be). But just assuming that there would be one, who would it be?
You just can't expect an all star at every position. I always thought the 2004 Yankees lineup was dangerous with Giambi, Sheffield, A-roid, Jeter, Matsui, etc. But now I think that we're exceeding that.
Well we have to make a move for a pitcher. The 4th and 5th spots in the rotation are somewhat f***ed. I know it's highly unlikely but I wish they got Ubaldo. He's one of my favorite pitchers in the NL and after the no hitter he has shown that he has the potential to do great things. That price tag would be insane as well. Going after Beltran isn't going to make a huge difference. At the end of the day it all comes down to who has the best pitching. Look at the 2010 Giants for example; no they didn't have an amazing lineup like the 2011 Sox, but they sure had one thing: PITCHING.
I don't think he's a let down; he's still a great power hitter. besides at the pace he was on at all star break he should have been on page to hit 35 homers with 150 R.B.I.'s (probably exaggerating).
