We been hearing that same record the last 3 years
And we won the AL East 2 times in the last 3 years
Were injuried now, no doubt, but once Longoria comes back we'll right this ship- great thing is were winning games without him, and thats a good sign.
The Rays won the AL East last year.. get it? I was one of the few that actually liked or trades. We got rid of an overpriced one trick pony in Crawford and got a young stud LF that can actually hit the ball.. Hell, you guys should know- he rip you guys a new ass 2 nights in a row, not just hitting, but robbing you guys with his speed in LF. Sam Fuld grew up a Red Sox fan and its to bad you guys didnt trade for him. Ya just blew a bunch of money on Crawford who's on the downside of his career.
Lets look at some of the Rays moves
Carlos Pena sucks monkey balls- that stiff left more players on bags last year than anyone I've ever seen in my 20 years of watching baseball- yeah, he'll get a few homers, but when its the 9th inning and your down 2 with 2 outs and he's on deck- might as well leave the game or change the channel, because the games over, he'll ground out or pop up.. Carlos Pena's nothing more than an average DH.. And even thats a stretch- dude needs to retire
You guys know Dan Johnson right? He was the dude that cracked that homer at Fenway park with the AL East on the Line
DJ's been at bat 41 times, struckout 6 times, Pena? 27 times and goosed 10 times
Dan Johnson > Pena
Reid Brignac was our 2nd rd pick a couple years ago and pushed that stiff Bartlett right back to the Padres for a couple nice young prospects
Brignac >Bartlett
The only player I was disappointed to see go was Garza, but the way Sam Fuld has been playing, its the best move this franchise ever made.
Hellickson was a pick of ours and is ready to pay dividends and it was a great move to trade Garza to get Sam Fuld and avoid having to pay Crwaford that crazy ass money he was looking for.
We could use another solid closer, but other than that- This Rays team is young and they can compete with any team in the major leagues, and anybody that thinks you're gonna get an easy W looking at the schedule... riiiiight
The bottom line is that the Rays draft their future players, make trades on good young prospects and avoid signing big ticket FA's.
Hell, 2 years ago when the Rays won the AL and went to the World Series.. The Yankees had 2 players who made as much money as the entire Rays team...
What did the Beatles once say? "Cant buy me Gloves? wait.. wut?
