  1. SLG shouldn't be considered at all when choosing a leadoff hitter, as a matter of fact, the higher the SLG percentage is, the better it is for the hitter to hit 3rd or 4th, not only homeruns go to waste, but doubles & triples too, yes a homerun is good, but its better when there are men on base, if managers think that way, we'd see Gonzalez, Pujols, & Cabrera as leadoff hitters, just to save them a couple of extra plate appearances (in the end, they'd get less RBIs), both Ellsbury & Crawford had pathetic OBP in the past, & we don't know which Crawford (OBP-wise) would show up just as much as we know Ellsbury, so the SLG percentage is the tie breaker, the better slugger shouldn't be the leadoff hitter.
  2. 1- OBP & speed 2- very good at moving the runners over & a doubles machine 3- power & average 4- the homeruns leader of the team 5- a power guy who doesn't have as much power as the 4th, but higher OBP for the players behind him 6- good power, not that good average 7-8- leftovers 9- a #1 type player, but not as fast or as good as the #1 player. of course if the lineup is very deep (Red Sox 2011), three table setters & then three sluggers would be even better, but there aren't that many teams with a very deep lineup.
  3. the stat's name is "stolen base runs", Ellsbury's highest was 13.8 in 2009 (41st all-time), Crawford's highest was 12 in 2006 (57th all-time), here's a link: http://www.alexreisner.com/baseball/stats/leaders?s=SBR
  4. I think there's an actual stat that measures runs scored by the aid of a stolen base, I can't remember it though, what I do remember is that if a guy gets cought stealing then the next guy hits a homerun, it adds a negative value to the stat, & if he steals second & then scores on a single, it adds a positive value.
  5. you don't want a guy with some pop leading off, solo homeruns are practically useless.
  6. Ellsbury & Gonzalez hit lefties very well, so I think we should give them the same weight as switch hitters, so Crawford hitting 2nd isn't a bad idea, & Pedroia is a better run producer than Crawford, the good thing about Pedroia is you can bat him anywhere in the lineup & he'd do his job extremely well at it, whether its setting the table or producing runs, as long as he's not in the bottom of the order, his bat is more valuable at the top. L Ellsbury L Crawford R Pedroia L Gonzalez R Youk L Ortiz S Salty L Drew R Scutaro this lineup is immune to the LOOGY strategy, well kinda, there are no consecutive hitters that struggle against lefties.
  7. exactly, Ellsbury stole 50 in his rookie year, & that was his minimum, 70 steals was impressive.
  8. from what Francona is saying, he's healthy 100%.
  9. I don't know why people started labeling him as injury prone, he had broken ribs last year, prior to 2010, everybody was making him the next Rickey Henderson, now I'm not saying he is, but he was pretty damn good & he was never injured prior to the collision with Adrian Beltre.
  10. calm down guys, no need to get violent here, you're all friends, & you can flirt with each other, nobody's gonna stop you lol.
  11. yeah, we're sick of those leaders giving us a bad name around the world.
  12. neither, that would be Pedroia, he's a run scoring machine.
  13. well, gardner is fast & he was still an on base machine, but point taken, he did steal 70 bases even though he had a pathetic OBP, which means he has a very very high upside. & on the time off point, Francona already said that Ellsbury is 100% since he had a full year rest, & he's not gonna give him significant time off even in ST, check out the "Sox on Site" videos.
  14. well, there was a large margin in 2009, which was the last full season Ellsbury played, he could have stolen 100 bases in 2009 if he actually had some form of patience, he stole 70 bases even though he refused take a walk even if his life was on the balance.
  15. I think 100 would be the minimum, if both of them have career years we could see 70+ from ellsbury & 60+ from Crawford, I wouldn't rule out 150 between the 2.
  16. I think its gonna be a nice friendly rivalry between the two, does anyone know the record for double steals in a season? there's a good chance it might be broken this year.
  17. it calmed down a bit now, it was crazy yesterday, riot police killed my third cousin, I didn't know him personally but its sad when a government terrorizes its citizens.
  18. oh, then all I'm gonna say is world series this year.
  19. yeah but he never came close to Ellsbury's season high, Crawford's minimum is 40, while Ellsbury's minimum is 50 (though to be fair, we don't have enough sample size for Ells).
  20. Carl Crawford or Jacoby Ellsbury? I say Ellsbury & by a wide margin.
  21. so then this section is only for "hey i'm here welcome me"?
  22. am I supposed to talk about my life story here? I'm not good at those introduce yourself in forums thing, lol.
