"It's only early May. It's only early May. It's only early May."
Ok. I'm insanely frustrated with this team, but I'm going to try to take a step back and be realistic.
After starting 2-10, the Red Sox have now gone 15-9 in their last 24 games. Doesn't seem like it at all. To me, it seems like we've been watching .500 baseball since then, but we haven't. We've seen .625 baseball, and if you ask me, we still aren't clicking, so here's what that means.
After starting 2-10, if the Red Sox play at a .625 clip for the remainder of the season, they will end up at 96-66 on the season. Basically, just keep playing like we have been since April 16th.
Here's the good thing about that. I don't think there is a single analyst, opponent, or fan that would say that the Red Sox are playing up to their potential right now. And even with that, the Sox are still finding ways to put themselves in a position to win 95-96 games this year.
As bad as that loss was last night, we shelled out 16 hits and hit 3 HR. An insanely uncommon "error" (that wasn't an error in the box score) by Gonzalez, an outing by Lester where he found himself getting squeezed early and often, dumb baserunning mistake by Ellsbury, and an uncommon bullpen outing by Bard all lead to a 6-5 10 inning loss.
We'll figure it out. I know everyone in here wants to beat their heads against a wall right now after this game but we're close. Really, really close to breaking out.
And how sweet will it be to finally hit that stride (and .500) in the Bronx?
