  1. nevermind... my friend summed it up very well, in a response to someone calling spring training "preseason" on facebook. I'm officially excited. ***boing!*** It is in the sense that it takes place before the season. So in the context of the space time continuum it is "pre-season." But, to refer to it as "pre-season" as if that were its official title is to equate it with the NFL's pre-season. That's where people go wrong. There are few things on this earth more meaningless than pre-seaon NFL games. However, spring training baseball is a season unto itself. People don't take off 2 weeks from work to travel to Arizona or Florida for a pre-season football game. They do however flock to spring training baseball games for a chance to experience major league baseball in the confines of minor league stadiums. One of my best memories as a child was sitting with my father and grandfather at a spring training game and just being in awe of how close we were to the action and how you could actually hear the players speaking to each other. Then last March, I went with three friends from work and sat in the front row on a sun splashed day shooting the breeze with the umpire between innings. You don't get those kind of experiences at an NFL pre-season game.
  2. get me excited about spring training! I just can't wait until the season starts... and its torture waiting until April. Why am I not excited? ( I live in Florida too.) IDK, maybe because it doesn't count yet...and #86 striking out #79 doesn't do it for me. But, I WANT to be excited... help me out.
  3. right! since when do people who post on a forum get sick of people's opinions? I'm always too subtle.
  4. didn't take the time to do the research, but how many yanks fans think burnett will rebound and beckett won't? and how many sox fans think beckett will rebound and burnett won't? wondering out loud...
  5. I agree... reminds me that Ortiz is flat out embarrassing against lefties
  6. people love to give Tito s***. no one would care/notice if we had not signed two lefties. oh well, its not like a lefty can't hit a southpaw. I trust Francona to make the right decision, he's earned it.
  7. pedroia®, crawford(L), youk®, ortiz(L), gonz(L), Salt/Tek (S),drew(L), scutaro®, ells(L) pedroia ® crawford(L), youk®, gonz(L), cameron®, Salt/Tek(S), drew(L), scutaro®, ells(L) almost impossible decision when you factor in all the diff concerns: crawford cant lead off, ells isnt ready to lead off, need youk behind base stealers because he is patient, ortiz needs protection to be effective, plus you have to balance out R and L. I'm also not crazy about gonz 5th, but what are you gonna do? Makes me feel like if ortiz doesn't hit well this year he's gotta go. One big damn headache for francona, eventhough every says its a good prob to have, the first time someone shuts down a (L)(L) back to back his nuts are on the block in the media.
  8. Theo likes cost certainty, ... don't know what number Pap threw out there. Maybe if he rebounds this year, it might buy him a little loyalty too.
  9. Crawford is so fast his shoe came untied.
  10. HEY! we are off topic. Yanks signed Andrew Jones. In the article they described him a good RH 4th outfielder. NOT saying sox should have signed Jones, but hey... didn't we need one of those? not sold on cameron at all!
  11. Hoffman is getting in. I'd say hes a lock.
  12. Youk is great, but Beltre did make me question who I would like better? Did anyone else feel this way, or is it clear that Youk at 3rd is the better option.
  13. Those are some generous ERAs, hope its right:thumbsup:
  14. from what i've seen, Tek can't handle it. (neither could bard) Hence the mirabelli helicopter
  15. who is going to catch wakefield?
  16. agreed, roger was a prick
  17. Am I wrong here? Every day I look at Bostonherald.com and if its a slow news day, we get these pieces on "Adrian, the man" or what Crawford had for breakfast today, or Pedroia's trip to the mall. Someone please stop the human interest stories. The guy is not running for mayor. I don't care about his personal life. ( I had a link to a little boy pic of Adrian here that the herald is running today, but because I was under 15 posts I couldn't use it, but you get the idea.)
  18. I just don't get the pro -"trade him for beltran" logic -- beltran is 33 and hasnt played a full season in 2 years
  19. and one more thing, who cares how much they spent, if they never say cost kept them from doing something? spend 500M if its gets them the WS! Am I supposed to say, gee John Henry, save 25M, spend it on liverpool..
  20. Is it possible that Theo went to his level on Tex and figured, "if he doesn't take it, Gonzales is out there" same thing with Jason Bay? but with crawford? Nobody gets it right all the time, everyone has a Lugo, or a Gagne. And maybe if the fans didnt jump all over his ass all the time, he would make less mistakes like that. Who would you rather have? Theo or the GM of the Mets, which despite who it is, is always same dumbass
  21. you may be right. I'm still getting used to the sox hating. I mean they won it all twice in the last 7 years, its not like they are the yanks! I live in Tampa, its like the Rays are the new team to hate what they don't have.
  22. it seemed like the article was complimentary. "embarassment of riches" doens't necessarily mean embarassment.
  23. not impossible. they would have to stretch him out, he seems so similar to beckett ever since his shoulder subluxed, (went from 99mph fast balls to 95mph, and their windup even looks similar) but his career path would start to look like derek lowe's. (we know what happened to him) I sense that if the sox let him go, that would happen (he'd become someones 4th starter) if he doesn't rebound this season as the ace closer he used to be.
  24. The Sox have agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Lenny DiNardo on a minor-league contract, according to WEEI.com. Whats the matter, Rich Garces wasn't available?
